"Just one more turn." Oh, you thought you were gonna play for 15 minutes? Nope, you're playing for 15 hours. Man this game is amazing. There's a lot of improvements i like in Civ VI but V is just so much... cleaner? smoother? The aesthetics and gameplay is just better. The tone and graphics being more serious. Simpler game mechanics but lots of depth to them. Better pacing on standard speed. Much better policy system and worker system. If you want to experience the pinnacle of civilization games, fire up Civ V.

One of the most dangerous games I've ever encountered. Time has a way of slipping by without a care in the world. One moment the sun is out and you're feeling chipper. The next, you're trying to balance out your nation's economy while also trying to maintain some temporary peace with your neighboring countries after some border disputes gone sour. All this done, of course, under the pale moonlight because you've just spent 10 hours playing this game without realizing it. Absolute gas.

Just played this again on my mac, and my computer sends me a request saying the game wants to record all of my keystrokes. So, that matches what people are saying about the eula. Too bad Windows doesn't make it easier to block crappy behavior from software companies like that.

You guys lost me after the chaotic great edition ripoff that was wonderlands, but this? Retroactivly changing every EULA for every game you have ever made to give you the "right" to our data Beyond the pale,i truly hope that your company fails due to your own stupidity and greed.

I have fond memories of playing the Civ series. I started with Civ 2 where my brother and I played Civil War scenarios and gave nukes to Gandhi, then Alpha Centauri, then Civ 3 which was so addicting I had to quit PC games altogether just to keep from failing in school! Now, a few years later, I'm getting back into PC gaming. I actually got reintroduced to Civ from playing Civ 7 on VR. It brought back these fond memories, but I was looking for something more familiar, and I saw Civ 5 has the best rating of the series. I'm really happy with this game. Graphics, gameplay, improvements over older versions, add-ons, online play, and now all the YouTube content which makes it easy to deep-dive and appreciate this game. It's not just domination and science victories anymore; religion, trade, and culture are fun variables to play with as well. Overall, I spend more time playing this game than I even realize. But it's a mixture of relaxing (being turn-based means I don't need lightning-fast reflexes unlike RTS games) and satisfying (so many strategies and historical references). Overall, an excellent game you won't regret investing in.

Take-Two and 2K games (including Gearbox & Rockstar Games) have silently updated all their games' Terms of Service, turning this game as well as all of their other games into software capable of data farming. Additionally, their Privacy Policy mentions sharing data with ad networks and marketing analytics; it is very explicit that they intend to farm data from you and use it for frivolous monetary gain. ***While Take‑Two disclaims using "spyware", they explicitly reserve broad permissions to monitor, record, store, and analyze user data: including voice, gameplay, and profiles. That’s not spyware in the "deliberately malicious" sense, but it’s still sweeping surveillance capability permitted by legal provisions you agree to. [READ BELOW for more about Take-Two's update statement regarding the issue] Important Info in Terms of Service: • Unsanctioned mods can be a bannable offense (depending on their arbitrary definition of bannable mods) • Display of Cheats/Exploits is bannable • Forced arbitration clause and a waiver of class action and jury trial rights for all users residing in the United States and any other territory other than Australia, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, or The Territories of The European Economic Area • You can be banned for using a VPN while connecting to online servers • Cannot access game content on a Virtual PC Collected Data Types: • Identifiers / Contact Information: Name, user name, gamertag, postal and email address, phone number, unique IDs, mobile device ID, platform ID, gaming service ID, advertising ID (IDFA, Android ID) and IP address • Protected Characteristics: Age and gender • Commercial Information: Purchase and usage history and preferences, including gameplay information • Billing Information: Payment information (credit / debit card information) and shipping address • Internet / Electronic Activity: Web / app browsing and gameplay information related to the Services; information about your online interaction(s) with the Services or our advertising; and details about the games and platforms you use and other information related to installed applications • Device and Usage Data: Device type, software and hardware details, language settings, browser type and version, operating system, and information about how users use and interact with the Services (e.g., content viewed, pages visited, clicks, scrolls) • Profile Inferences: Inferences made from your information and web activity to help create a personalized profile so we can identify goods and services that may be of interest • Audio / Visual Information: Account photos, images, and avatars, audio information via chat features and functionality, and gameplay recordings and video footage (such as when you participate in playtesting) • Sensitive Information: Precise location information (if you allow the Services to collect your location), account credentials (user name and password), and contents of communications via chat features and functionality. *DISCLAIMER*: T-T/2K/Gearbox has put out a statement regarding the misleading statements surrounding the EULA in their games: "Take-Two generally does not seek to take action against mods that are single-player only, non-commercial, and respect the intellectual property" (1) Take-Two Does Not Use Spyware Take-Two does not use spyware in its games. Take-Two's Privacy Policy applies to all labels, studios, games, and services across all media and platform types such as console, PC, mobile app, and website. The Privacy Policy identifies the data activities that may be collected but this does not mean that every example is collected in each game or service. ***This sounds, to me, an awful lot like: "we won't spy on you or collect your info, we swear. BUT, we reserve the right to per the agreement, y'know, in case we ever did want to." Whether they act on the provisions outlined in their EULA or not, the provisions themselves are unethical.

This game was absolutely great and as much as I would like to recommend it I can never recomend putting all, and I mean ALL of your personal data in such a vulnerable state. Civilization V is one of the best games ever made. Unciv is an open-source recreation of Civilization V and its Gods & Kings expansion, with a mod adding Brave New World's features as well. Don't give Take-Two your money, unless you like them recording your name, gender, age, address, and credit card number, plus more fun extras!

I almost feel like you either like real time strategy (RTS) like Age of Empires, or you like turn-based strategy like this. I tried for a while with Civ 5 and there were a lot of neat features, but that long playtime probably translates to just a few games lol everything takes so long to do, games take forever to complete. There are some good mods at least. I'm just not the target demographic.

I'll be reinstalling this game if they change the EULA back so that the games wont remain spyware that sells my data. I paid for the product so I do not become the product, If I wanted to be a product id have downloaded a F2P game not spent money on all of these ones published by Taketwo

In order to play this game you are also required to let 2K record your name, address, age, sex, bank details, all of the files on your computer at all times, and come into your home and photograph the contents of your fridge. fuckers.

My first Civ game I played. I tried 6 but it honestly wasnt as good as 5. 7 is just a steaming pile of you know what. this 15 year old game still has me addicted to building an empire to stand the test of time. Also if youre a mac user, there is a bug where if an ai liberates their capital it crashes the game and there's no fix for that other than not letting ais recapture their capitals. I've had to cheese a few games to get around this. REALLY wish this was fixed when the devs cared for this game

ive probably got about 500 total hours on this game and still dont know every civ very well. civ 5 blows civ 6 out of the water. although i like the concepts introduced in civ 6 i think civ 5 does better on the basics and it shows. plus its just nostalgic for me because its the first one i really played.

If you like strategy games this is a great pick. There's also some good mods out there that add/improve it.

This is, and from what I have seen from Civ 6 & 7, will always be...the best Civilization iteration. I have seen some of the most die hard Civ players say and review 7 harshly for so many unnecessary and half hearted changes and missing mechanics. Civ 6 having natural disasters is probably the only thing it has going for it to be honest. And I am 98% certain I could find a mod from the workshop somewhere to add that to Civ 5. Also personally for me, in Civ 6 losing your workers after 3 uses is lame af. Civ 5 will always be my favorite of the franchise and kind of sucks that the newest versions since have been getting worse and worse.

The best of all the civ series with the right mods. The EULA is a MFer though, like so many EULA's are nowadays. F this company for using a great game to harvest info .
