This is certainly a nice addition to the series! I'm pleasantly surprised that, unlike the previous parts, True Colors has an actual good ending. Meaning even despite being bittersweet it doesn't leave you depressed and questioning your life choices for the next 2 weeks. It was fun to play, fixing everyone's problems and being kind feels nice, and introducing mini games and a real-life RPG is an amazing idea. However! Those mini games were way too simple and frankly not fun enough to engage in, as if the creators were terrified of letting people fail. Inability to fail is quite a big thing in this game. Maybe it's for the sake of finally creating a heartfelt story without strong negative feelings, but the choices along the way felt way too risk-free and don't influence the plot much. I am personally motivated to replay a game if I didn't get a desired outcome, which could save this one considering it only takes around 7 hours to beat it. The playtime is quite big disappointment. Just from the price of True Colors and the standards of the previous games I expected twice as long... This kind of felt like an unfinished thing, I was dying to go out and talk to some characters after Chapter 5 was finished. Nevertheless, I got hooked immediately and enjoyed the game a lot, so I 100% recommend.

Considering the weird state this franchise is in as of 2025, True Colors feels to me like it works much better as a Life is Strange game in comparison to Double Exposure. It reinforces to me that, sales numbers be damned, Deck Nine is much better off taking this franchise in fresh directions with entirely new characters and scenarios, rather than attempting to build on and advance what Dontnod left behind after LiS 2. True Colors is a game that has a ton of heart and a very interesting, surprisingly intricate decision system that results in a wide tree of story branches. It doesn't always land - no Life is Strange game will ever bat 1.000 - but when it does land, it really, really hits, and when it misses, well, it's not so bad. It's an impossible task to follow up on a gameplay mechanic as uniquely suited to choice mechanics as Max's short-throw time travel powers were, but I think that Alex's empathy is given a vivid, affecting portrayal, both in its gameplay applications (reading emotions either for story progression or for simple flavor text) and in how it drives Alex's story forward. Key plot beats revolve around Alex's powers, and the consequences of decisions you make based in part on how you use her powers were really satisfying to see. Whether a game like this sinks or swims is almost entirely dependent on the strength of its choice system, and I think that True Colors does this really, really well on the whole, even if sometimes I felt that individual, specific choice options were poorly considered or too restrictive. Haven Springs is a great little environment for this game, too - sure, it's kind of laid out like a strip mall, but all of the shop interiors convey character and really push that small-town feeling. It's a cohesive environment, internally consistent, and the game does a lot throughout the narrative to dress the town up in different ways to make it feel fresh, even when the bedrock of it is the same. Related to that, the game's narrative pace felt spot-on, never seeming rushed, never quite dragging. Even in the late game, when things take a pretty hard turn and throw you into a very different corner of the game's story, it still felt like the same game, underpinned by the same core themes, and it made the climax of True Colors hit that much harder for it. I think, on the whole, True Colors feels like an underrated game in the series. Realistically, that title actually goes to LiS 2, which it seems like no one ever talks about, but I think True Colors has also suffered under the oppressive weight of the first game's outsized popularity. Alex is not Max, and True Colors is not the first game, but it's a game very much worthy of the title, and it demonstrates a care for its subject matter and for the overall franchise that Deck Nine should do well to remember for future installments. If you have any tolerance for walking sim-adjacent gameplay, give True Colors some of your time - it's worth it.

Life is Strange: True Colors offers a distinct experience within the beloved narrative adventure series. While it brings many elements to love, its shift in tone and pace might present a different flavor that long-time fans will need to adjust to. Alex Chen is a compelling lead, balancing bravery, caution, kindness, and strong will. Her relationships, especially with her brother Gabe, form the game's emotional core. Supporting characters Steph and Ryan are also excellent. The game handles themes of loss and grief with sensitivity, providing a powerful emotional arc. Visually, True Colors boasts the best graphics in the series, enhancing the storytelling. The game's pacing occasionally drags, lacking the urgency found in previous installments. The central mystery's "big reveal" was lackluster compared to the impactful climaxes of earlier games, failing to deliver the same punch. Similarly, the ending felt merely "okay," not reaching the expected heights of narrative satisfaction. Life is Strange: True Colors is a solid 7 out of 10. It excels in character development, offering a cast that is easy to connect with. However, a less compelling mystery plot holds it back. With a stronger main narrative, it could have rivaled Life is Strange 2. It's worth playing for its emotional depth and characters, but don't expect a gripping, high-stakes mystery.

Another great LiS game. Why has this flown so low under the radar is a mystery to me. Pros: + pretty good & mature storyline, with pretty realistic character behaviours + very good and ORIGINAL (with big O) themes. I feel like whoever wrote it, shared some personal pain. Thank you. + the branching seems pretty decent for a LiS game + no volatile themes, no LGBT overrepresentation (looking at you, Double Exposure) + IMO very little stuff that could be percieved as "cringe" + pretty good dialogue, decent jokes, actors did great + nice and likable characters and IMO pretty decent twists + best licensed soundtrack in the whole series Cons: - I kinda didn't like the way they solved the main confrontation in the story. It just felt unbelivable, even if Alex became Skullface for a minute there. You too have known loss, Boss. - one unresolved thread, which I can't point out to not spoil one of the endings - pretty "contained" space-wise

I really like this game! It has an interesting story, good twist and difficult choices. I also love the art style, it's incredibly pretty. Started listening to the soundtrack when the game first came out and it's one I still listen to. Highly recommened this game if you like narative/choice driven games and a tense but sometimes also cozy atmosphere.

I didnt set high expectation but I enjoyed this game so much. Love how the plot is built and every character develops. Combined with some of best music addition, it really adds up to the emotions. Alex is such a lovable character.

Life is Strange: True Colors is in my opinion one of two best games ever created (together with Baldur's Gate 3). I think this is the best adventure game ever. Alex is amazing protagonist and all the other characters in the game are really great as well. Graphics and music are beautiful, the story is very inspired and deep. Alex super power is my favorite from all frenchise. I would give it 11/10. It has a mature story, amazing atmosphere, best protagonist and characters. It's much better than all other LiS games. I really cared about Alex, Gabe, Stepth, Ryan an other characters too. It completely captivated me, from start to finish. I would love a sequel. I don't understand why this game is not universally considered as the best LiS game, because for me it totally outclasses the others.

Life is Strange: True Colors was an incredibly impactful experience, largely thanks to Alex Chen's unique ability. Seeing and feeling the emotions of others gave a massive emotional weight to this game, pulling me right into the heart of Haven Springs. Her ability to not just see, but also to manipulate those emotions, was a huge and powerful change to the gameplay. It often led to genuinely massive decisions for me – moments where I had to grapple with whether I should or shouldn't interfere, and those choices were incredibly tough to make. Every single choice I made carried significant weight, and the direction of the story continually kept me begging for more. The narrative unfolded in such a captivating way that I was constantly invested in seeing what would happen next, and how my decisions would shape the lives of those around me. Life is Strange: True Colors stands out for its brilliant emotional mechanics and tough, impactful choices, making it another deeply moving and unforgettable chapter in the series for me.
