An underrated open world gem, game came out in 2015 and doesn't lose to new releases, this happens when developers have passion and actually want to make a fun game.

I was absolutely loving this game until about 15-20 hours in I got a game breaking glitch that stopped my progression and I don't feel like redoing it. 10 years and they never put out a fix or even addressed it with a guide on how to fix it, there is no fix as far as I can tell. So annoyed rn.

I can't believe it looks better than some tripple and double A games that come out now (2025). It's one of those open world games that has you repeating the same thing over and over again, except it's just fun to do. It's rare that I look forward to going through the checklist. Why I think it's fun is because it has no needless tacked on gimmicks. No convoluted RPG system, no tedious quests, no mindless grinding. The core of the game is satisfying and the game just gives you an open world for that. In fact, beating the game is not the point, because then it's just over, there is actually nothing to do (no endgame). It's just going through liberating each area that makes the game, so just take your time and just drive around.

I had a lot of fun with this one. Vehicle combat reminded me a bit of Borderlands but was more fleshed out. Driving around the wasteland reminded me of cruising around Mars in Red Faction: Guerilla. And the hand to hand combat felt reminiscent of the Middle Earth and Arkham games. When you create a formula like that for an open world game, as long as it is executed well it should make for a fun game. And this is a fun game. My main concern was how the car combat was going to work but it's done well. Things go in slow motion when you are aiming your vehicle's weapons and aim assist helps toggle through the available targets. If ever things get overwhelming where the Magnum Opus (your car) is going to explode, you have 5 seconds to exit the car and you'll be fine. Then you get to give a satisfying beat down to enemies, while Chumbucket hops on the hood and repairs the Magnum Opus. Though I do want to mention, the only movie I've seen in this series is Mad Max: Fury Road which I did enjoy. However, upon finishing the game, I looked up what people had to say about the story. I guess I get why the story is what it is and why Max is the way he is but... I found Max to be unlikeable and the story to be, well... not for me. So, I do give the caveat, as a gamer who loves a good story, that it wasn't what was enjoyable about this game - to me. Still, if the gameplay sounds like fun to you, you can get it on the cheap during a sale. The gameplay was a lot of fun but the story wasn't my thing. Oh yeah, this game also gave me a newfound appreciation for having clean water. It was by far the most appetizing thing your character could use to heal in this game. Backlog Games Beaten 2025 24/50

I originally had this game on the PS4 but never finished it, so when I saw this on sale I figured I'd attempt to get some type of closure. I was expecting it to feel pretty dated being from 2015, but I found it to hold up really well. Graphics wise it looks great. The car game play is where it really excels though. The driving dynamics, well executed engine audio, and the gradual upgrading of your vehicle is executed perfectly. Smashing straight through another vehicle is fun and hilarious at the same time, especially when it is a car broken down on the side of the road. My biggest complaint about this game is the difficulty. I found it to be too easy in every aspect, and there is no difficulty selection. I was expecting an apocalyptic wasteland to be harsh, but it turns out it is very forgiving. The on foot combat is fun, but simple, and never really felt challenging to me. You can just spam your parry and you will always get through it. I don't recall ever dying in combat. The only deaths I recall having in the game were fall damage, and getting trapped in your vehicle when it is critically damaged. Your vehicle consumes fuel, but there is never any risk of it running out (I never did) as fuel is usually easy to find, and you eventually will upgrade your strongholds to refuel every time you visit them. The vehicle upgrades can be swapped out at pretty much anytime, so if you see enemies approaching, you can just hit pause, equip the best armour, then resume at with no downside. I think it would have been much better if you could not change these unless you are at a stronghold, so you have to think ahead for how you are going to equip your vehicle. Despite the lack of difficulty, I would still highly recommend this game if you are into cars or the Mad Max franchise.

Playing with a controller? Go to the settings, check out vehicle controls and switch to alternate layout. Congratulations, you now have handbrake. And this isn't even the most braindead design in the game: there's a system that lets the NPCs collect scrap (in-game currency) for you while you're not playing the game. Too bad this system was tied to the online servers that are now shut down, so it doesn't work anymore. You know, a feature in a singleplayer game. Have fun grinding all the scrap manually! Other than that, it's a nice game. Not amazing, but nice. I find the much beloved car combat a bit dull. The graphics are beautiful and the game runs smoothly on my 2gb vram GPU! Story... exists, I guess? Somewhere in the background. The game is super grindy and repetitive, but that's to be expected from an open world game like this. Not sure if I'll finish the game, but I mean for the 3€ asking price it was worth the ~10 hours of entertainment I got so far.

it seems like a very good and fun game runs extremely well fps wise, and plays nicely however i don't recommend using a slow drive for this game, it takes much longer to load than most with a slow drive and cutscenes take time to buffer

A good, finished product that sells exactly what it says on the front. Glitches/bugs are minimal to none, driving and fighting are interesting enough in both cases, trading them and exploration back makes a good gameplay loop. only sadness, is that the convoys are a little lack luster for bigger vehicles.

A many others said, a hidden gem. It is a very well made game. The gameplay is common for the games of that era and reminds me of Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3 a lot, prepare to grind for scrap everywhere. Despite that the car gameplay is awesome and holds up to this day. Aside from the car gameplay, the sounds are another reason to praise the game. Each engine upgrade changes the texture of sound of your v6 and v8. The car noise is complex, layered. You can hear supercharger and turbo separately, they live their own life. In general the samples of shotguns, explosions are thick and rich, exactly what you would expect from Mad Max universe. The story is relatively simple, however it has its own charm and violence. For some reason I felt refreshed playing as a character who makes quite questionable decisions. From the performance perspective the game runs well, with no bugs or fps drops whatsoever (fps drops during saving don't count). Overall, a great game to play throughout a week. Buy it, it is totally worth it!

Recently played based on many recommendations from others. The game still looks good even in 2025 and the game itself is fun without being too long. The only reason I spent so much time on it was I wanted to get 100% completion. Otherwise, worth the money especially if you're looking for something simple and linear to play.

It's a great game, I've played it off and on throughout the years and just now beat it and am continuing through the wastelands after wasting Scrotus. It's a game you can pick up and put down simply cause there is so much to the open world, that is until one breaches into the Big Nothing, not a good idea but go ahead and try it. Combat is satisfying, on foot and on the road. It's pretty brutal. This isn't a perfect game for sure but starts to bump up against perfect in a number of ways. The wasteland missions are kind of hard to get into. Some of the interface isn't best and the ways missions are tracked can feel kind of strange and off at times. Disabling mines can be glitchy. Graphics are great. I can still see myself playing this off and on for years, not really to 100% the achievements but cause I just flat out enjoy dropping into the game and having some fun smashing in skulls and driving rusty muscle cars and blowing up stuff. Again great game, as said before been playing on this for years ever since I bought it in 2017. It held my interest off and on for that long and I'm sure it will continue to.

This game was tons of fun, and is like the creator of the movies decided to make a video game! It fit the feel, the vibe, and did great in the way of adding in great combat, and good driving and upgrading the vehicles. Loved every part of the game, from start to finish from a Completionist point of view. Only downside of 100% the game, would be the fact that the game no longer has service capabilities. Combat was tons of fun! A lot like the Batman Arkham series, with the simplistic but satisfying combat, had good driving, and upgrading of vehicles, only downside I would say is, is that if you explore a lot, you'll get overpowered very quickly, so it makes the game quiet simple to just rush through at the end, if you're like me and love to explore, especially in this fully open world game. Rating: 10/10 Achievement Hunter Section: As an Achievement Hunter, it was tons of fun! Collecting all car parts, scrap, all of that. it was great! The only downside would be that one achievement is sadly impossible to collect anymore! (NOOOOOOOO!) So, those of you who care about that, will be forced to go with another route to unlock it! But other than that, every other achievement was great, and was fun to do in the universe!

This is how to make a good open world game. Very good adaption of the mad max character. The car combat and and customizations are good, the world is crafted very beatifully, the game looks and sounds very good. I played many open world games but this is one of the very few where i realy had the urge to discovery every hidden memo or secret and even after i unlocked EVERY memo i still was able to find new locations outside of the marked map. One small note: if you want to complete all achievements: "Up to the task" can not be obtained by plaing as it is tied to some online functionality that WarnerBros has shut down. You can get it by downloading some save files tho

I played this game back in 2016 and instantly decided it was my favorite of all time but didn't replay it till recently since the ending was so perfect and I was afraid it might've become dated. It's got the occasional game-breaking bug, but man is it still fun to play and immersive. I just warn to have multiple saves if you're a completionist; a certain annoying bug stopped me from 100% completion and I couldn't load back... The gameplay is a mix between the Arkham games, Farcry, and an atmospheric driver of its own design. The progression systems for Max and his car are very satisfying. I didn't expect much plot from a movie game but its themes go hard and the voice acting is hauntingly good. I only wish they better incorporated the landmine side quests, what a slog...

One of the best open world post apocalyptic survival games. It puts modern day games to shame in comparison. At the very least 8.5/10 it could have been a 9/10 cuz ofc no game is perfect but there were some tiny little stuff that could have been worked on, other than that this game is a Magnum Opus

This was one of the most exciting addictive and just straight up fun action adventures I've ever played. I highly recommend this one, the graphics are beautiful, the combat is visceral, the Mad-maxiness of it all is just spot on perfect. It is satisfying. Best way to enjoy post apocalyptic wasteland, next to Fallout, but in some ways it's even more fun. The cars are just so coool! You have to try this.

Now, after 50 hours of gameplay, I can give my opinion on it! I just finished the game for the first time in 2025 with only a few scrap zones left and I still think it's a very good game, considering it's a game that's already a few years old. Honestly, it's one of the games I enjoyed finishing the most.

After the Ashes to Ashes mission in Jeet's region my game softlocked and I could not progress any further. 14 hours of my time wasted because I didn't know I was supposed to be making saves after every mission or something. 10 years of time to fix the game and it still has game breaking bugs, so be careful of that I guess. I did actually like the game, but If you're going to play I recommend that you save frequently, after every mission. Edit: I finished the game now, saving after every mission, and I definitely do recommend this game, but just save your game before you start every mission so if it bugs you can start it again.

Still an underrated gem, even a decade later. Hard to believe this game is from 2015, Mad Max still holds up visually in a big way. The wasteland looks absolutely stunning, from brutal dust storms to sunsets over rusted ruins. The lighting, the weather effects, the grit, it all sells the atmosphere so well. The upgrade systems are super satisfying, both for Max and the Magnum Opus. Every new armor piece, engine boost, or weapon mod feels like it matters. You feel the progress, and it all feeds into the gameplay loop perfectly. Combat is punchy and impactful, with real weight behind every hit. The timing-based brawling is super rewarding once you get in the rhythm, and chaining brutal takedowns just never gets old. And the driving? Absolutely awesome. Car combat feels chaotic and cinematic in the best way, ramming, harpooning, blowing enemies off the road, it all just clicks. If you missed this when it came out or just never gave it a shot, now’s a great time. It’s aged like fine scrap metal.

Mad Max (2015) is a third-person, open world, action game developed by Avalanche Studios (of Just Cause fame) and published by Warnes Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Taking place in the Mad Max universe, you are set in the role of the titular, Max Rockatansky, as he fights his way through the desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland. This review will cover the ~38 hours needed to complete most of the game’s content including side quests and races. TL; DR – A faithful interpretation of the Mad Max universe in videogame form that starts strong but fizzles off unexcitingly in the second half. Story (2/5) – Mad Max’s story starts off strong with Max’s signature ride, The Interceptor, and his gear being stolen. Max then fights his way back up to retrieve what’s his and making uneasy alliances along the way. However, the story soon becomes repetitive and unengaging with questionable agendas/motivations that isn’t helped by boring boss fights. Gameplay (3/5) – Mad Max adopts the free-flow combat system first seen in the Batman Arkham series of games which is fun initially but does not cope well with the game’s means of increasing the difficulty – just throwing more bodies at you. Moreover, this system does not translate well to the boss fights. Upgrades can be made to both Max and his ride which help to make your exploration of the vast, desolate open world easier. Controls (4/5) – The default controls on mouse and keyboard work well even when driving is involved. Key rebinding and mouse sensitivity adjustments help to dial the controls in a little better, and I highly recommend doing it for mouse controls. Annoyingly, the game does nothing to tell you that Left-Ctrl functions as a slight hop which can otherwise lock you out of several puzzles without knowing the function. Graphics (5/5) – Mad Max looks stunning for a 10-year-old game with stunning vistas of the wasteland desert. Object density, lighting and dust particle effects are a standout even by today’s standards. The only thing that would give away the age are the lower resolution textures and motion capture of human characters. Audio (3/5) – Environmental audio in the Mad Max is good with meaty punches, loud gunshots and good positional audio. The voice acting is average, and score isn’t particularly memorable. What’s annoying is the drone of the car’s exhaust which get tiring after >10 hours of playthrough with no option to reduce engine/exhaust volume in the audio settings. Optimisation/Bugs – Performance is good and there are no compatibility issues with more modern hardware. Some issues may exist with 4K scaling and muted audio upon initial launch, though those are one-time fixes that needn’t be revisited after. In my entire playthrough, I encountered 5 or so hard crashes. Overall (3.4/5) – From the world to its character and vehicles, Mad Max (2015) is a very faithful adaptation of the Mad Max universe. With plenty to do an explore, the game’s first 15 hours are a blast as you make your way through the wasteland fighting on foot and in vehicle. Unfortunately, a weak main campaign and repetitive missions make the second half of the game a bit of chore to play. Nevertheless, there’s a lot of heart in this one and you can tell the developers truly cared for this game. Recommended especially if you’re fresh off the heels of a Mad Max movie marathon.

Considering that I am not a big fan of driving games, but am a fan of Mad Max series, I loved this game. Sure, it has flaws, mainly in on-foot gameplay segments, enemies sometimes get stuck in objects and there is not a lot enemy variety, hell even every boss in the game is basically the same. I must admit that on-foot combat is punchy (no pun intended), fast and responsive, but that is not the focus of the game. What you will be spending most of the time doing is driving, and they did it damn right. Your music will be the engine revving across the wasteland, metal twisting under the force of impact, explosions echoing around you and screams of your enemies under searing flames. I enjoyed every second of it and would highly recommend you try it.

Just over 11 hours it took to complete this one, which sometimes I love. Here being as example. Runs brilliantly on the Steamdeck and rekindled, oddly, my love for driving games. World building was fun, characters crazy, combat exciting.
