Overly complex mechanical systems, analog control displays for important machinery with dozens of buttons, in game manuals explaining how to operate complex machinery hardly tell you the basics (painfully realistic), and punishing gameplay with hundreds of possibilities for mistakes. You would spend hours figuring out basic things if it wasn't for the tutorial. I lied, there is no tutorial. None of this is explained to you and you have to figure it all out on your own. 9.5/10 Literally one of the best space sims ever, it's buggy and weird at times but it has a great foundation, incredible aesthetic, and scratches the immersive sim itch at the same time

First run: I got a powerful starting ship, but I juiced myself in the flight seat because I couldn't take the acceleration. Second run: I flew out to an abandoned ship, hoping to illegally grab something good, but it was just full of scrap and a few motherboards. When returning to KLEG I learned that the green circle is not the stations orbit around the asteroid. It IS the asteroid. Explains why my proximity alarm was going off... Third run: Made a nice haul of gas canisters, sold them, wanted to celebrate with a drink. At the bar, a cop that held a grudge against me since my teens beat me up and threw me in the brigg for two years. 10/10 The only bug I experienced thus far is that the police brutality left me unconscious from pain which apparently didn't clear up during my time in penitentiary, so I respawned as unconscious and had to reload.

This game is chock full of severe, game-breaking, run-ruining bugs, many of which have been in the game for multiple years with no indication they will be fixed any time soon. The typical playthrough ends when the game is eventually rendered unplayable by steadily accumulating glitches, which happens sooner or later every single time. It's a testament to how good the underlying idea is that it's still one of the best games I've played in years. You should buy this game if it looks at all interesting, you're probably going to love it, you just need to understand what you're getting. This is not a finished product. It's a rough, work-in-progress development build of an absolute masterpiece. There is jank absolutely everywhere. Your game will crash sometimes. Your saves will be corrupted. Your NPC crew will, if they can ever reach a treadmill, run on that treadmill until they die of exhaustion. The AI will occasionally decide to jump out of airlocks without suits or helmets. Your need bars will routinely duplicate themselves, resulting in infinite exhaustion that can never be cleared no matter how much you sleep. And when it works, it won't matter, because you'll be having a blast.

This game is so good, dude. Get lost in the debt. The focus of the future. Become a child of derelict. And one day, one day. Make it to Venus. Find the scrap you need. Hell is always at your back, but heaven is always at the edge of your drill. Keep it charged. You can do it. And so can I.

So far, the people who are complaining, are mostly those who this game isn't meant for. It's not meant for the faint of heart, it's not meant for those who don't want to understand complex systems, and it's not for those who want their hand held. A brief tutorial gets you the very basics and it's up to you to figure out the rest on your own. The UI is old school, but not punishing, just a lot of clicking you need to get used to, frustrating at times but no more frustrating than stuffing your backpack in Escape from Tarkov (maybe that tells you how much punishment you need to be okay with for you to enjoy this kind of game). It has bugs, it's not perfect but it's definitely worth it to me at the current price point.

Insanely ambitious game that feels like a solo player Space Station 13, both in character generation and endless sandbox style, and in clunky UI with a lot of right clicking. I will definitely come back to this, but in the current state I cannot recommend it: While in main menu adjusting settings I crashed the game and forced a restart. Then while playing the game I encountered several bugs, and had to restart again when my main characters sprite just disappeared. Been following this game since 2019 when first heard that the NEO Scavenger dev tries to develop a space game. But just like SS13 it probably needs 5-10 more years in the oven until it is playable without any issues.

This is a game that I keep coming back too even though I know what frustration to expect in terms of stability and stuttering. Basic actions are starting to take prohibitively long due to stutters or even pauses for 2-3 seconds seemingly every 5-10 seconds. That said, I keep coming back. I'm looking forward to seeing how this game turns out and will continue to play. Until major improvements are made to how the game runs, I only hesitantly recommend this game to strangers and would not recommend to friends for fear they will recognize me for the masochist that I am.

Its a bit rough around the edges and a bit of a learning curve, but the gameplay loop is fun if you enjoy the idea of being in crippling debt but being able to pay it off.

I absolutely *love* a good game with a steep learning curve. There is a tutorial in game that was updated recently and you can find information in game and online, especially the discord! I enjoy figuring things out and the trial and error of it all. There are some bugs yes, the game is not finished but it gets regular updates. Modding is possible which is a plus and I might even dabble with it at some point. I've been watching the show "The Expanse" and it has really given me the itch to play more and see what has been updated. Also, again, check out the discord if you want to know more or are looking for help!

Spent 20 minutes trying to open game, started life as a 48 year old man, salvaged ships, doubled my money, got caught stealing, beat up officer with crowbar, got arrested, spent three years in jail, and then died of hunger. 10/10 would bang head against wall again

While the game is currently (v0.14.3.15) nowhere close to a finished product, you can tell that there's some really good foundations laid. But if you really need things explained to you with a detailed tutorial, you might need to wait a while yet for this game to be for you. If ever, who knows. The core system of ripping valuable parts out of derelicts to resell is really interesting and lends naturally to a general "rags to riches" arc for those really into roleplaying gameplay. Heck, you can literally just rip the derelict apart and tack it onto your own ship and when you're running tight on space this can usually solve that problem. There's some, shall we say, INTERESTING quests (for lack of a better word) already in the game. I think whatever gets added in the future has promise based on these alone. So while the game feels very sparse at times, I think it's got what it already has done right. This leaves me very optimistic for seeing how it develops. Can't wait to see what kind of meat they put on these bones .

It's Dwarf Fortress in a vacuum! Build your own spaceship piece by actual piece with people that have needs and desires. If the devs finish half of what they started here this might end up being my favorite game of all time.

When you need to scratch the itch of being a blue collar space scavenger, this is my go to. The developer is communicative and prioritizes quality of life updates and refinement, which makes what is already released much more enjoyable.

Great game for an early access title. I spent a lot of time just going around space disassembling ships to build out my own ship from lighter ship pieces, I found the experience kind of cathartic after learning how to safely dock my ship. UI was kinda clunky when I played, and there were some bugs and minor annoyances that definitely need to be worked on. My character would sometimes just randomly wander off during his work shift ignoring the work orders I gave him and I'd have to lock him in the ship to keep him from wandering off. Some of the systems can be kind of hard to figure out on your own, I definitely recommend watching a guide on flying your ship and docking, and on how to set up a reactor for your ship. The mood/emotion system was kinda wonky, I didn't have a crew that I managed just my initial character so my main interaction with it was spamming social interactions whenever my character got depressed. I'm a pretty big fan of base building building and resource collection games and this ticks a special box for me. Going around salvaging derelict ships and potentially running into space pirates all to build myself a magnificent ship to fly off to different systems was enough to get me to sink quite a few hours into the game, but there's also some weird things you can encounter that I found quite interesting... Overall I'd recommend this to anyone that has experience playing early access games that doesn't mind quite a bit of inventory management and some grinding. If you can get past some of the flaws of the game you'll see just how much this game could shine with the right polish. Definitely going to come back and play more some time to check out the recent updates

(Spoiler Alert!) As a fan of sci-fi games, Ostranauts peaked my interest. The games story is perfect, I harness social media and the Wiki for any new information, even arriving at new stations at different planets satisfies my thirst for more sci-fi lore. The world-building is incomparable to other games, in the loading screen, it shows lore of the many planets, Venus for example, in Long Beach Terminal, The Los Angles Construction Zone was apparently abandoned and when I went there and went down to the second story, I was greeted by the first mention of robots and scared me because, you won't encounter robots anywhere else, not even Kleg. When I went to other orbital stations. I was disappointed, they were all copies that have not yet been changed. I did get to reunite my character with his father (who treated him like a stranger). When you go onto these unfinished stations however, they tell you what they're supposed to be, Mars moon station is supposed to have advanced medical care and technology. The bugs are weird, I encountered a pirate once who wouldn't die, 100 swings of my bat later, he finally bled out. Another bug is that I made another save to test out what happens if you crash into 1036 ganymed, I slowly descended into the planet, and got teleported out, when I increased my speed, my ship crashed horribly, and I died. But it didn't show the ground. That confused me. What happens if you travelled to earth? Im playing the game like its permadeath, maybe someone else can answer that for me. I give the game a 9/10, I love it!

As of the review, the gender ideology content in the game is minimal and doesn't have any real impact in gameplay, aside from being able to be 'lovers' with every character you encounter once relationships are high enough, due to an incomplete system. So long as that remains the case, the game is content wise stellar. Currently many systems need to be polished. A number of bugs exist to iron out, and the stability of the game is dependent on how fast your system is. But for the content in the game once you're used to controls, it is awesome, and you'll be wishing it wasn't as buggy so you could enjoy it more. At least that is how it is for me. It is honestly one of the most uniqe games I think I have in my collection right now.

Nice game but I seriously doubt this is going anywhere. Development is much too slow for what is being implemented. The UI is also a mess. Especially for repetitive tasks... It hurts to say this but: wait for a sale or buy from a shady key website

Known about this game for a little bit and am a fan of the Dev's previous release. I got this one on discount and am very happy, I'd have gladly paid full price tbh. If this is the type of game to tempt you and you're not sure if its worth the cost, i'd say go for it! you won't be disappointed.

Started game. Went on tutorial mission. Door access to my ship broke while out uninstalling salvage. Found out when trying to re-enter ship to get air. Died of asphyxiation while desperately trying to bash down door to get oxygen. 10/10 game.

The concept of the game is great, but the constant stuttering undermines the overall experience. The game freezes briefly whenever I click, give orders, or move the camera. At 16x speed, it starts to stutter every two seconds. Most of the time I spent watching the crew haul or disassemble things, and adding more people to the crew to make things faster, only makes the stutters and micromanagement even more annoying. Storage is also a mess. Every bin, crate, and locker is ridiculously small. I had to edit the game files just to make it bearable. Inventory management is tedious too, shift-clicking only moves items to the ground or into random inventory, so you end up manually dragging everything (or shift-clicking everything to the ground and then picking it up with a different storage in hand, so just more micromanaging). There's a great game here, but right now it's buried under performance issues and frustrating systems. Also, in my opinion, they should hire a proper UI designer to point them out how [strike]shi[/strike] tedious their system is. Worth keeping an eye on, coming back for a short game every couple of months, but still it's not enough to fully enjoy it.
