So I haven't completed the game yet, but I know with absolute certainty that this is the best MGS game in the franchise with tough competition from other entries. What sets this game apart from the others is a truly sandbox experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. No oversized "open worlds" full of empty terrain that exist simply for the sake of it. You have a goal with each mission that all take place on Camp Omega and it really doesn't matter how you do it. Just in and out, no traces. If you do decide to ditch the pacifist play style, there's plenty of options. A catalogue of guns, whatever tools you load in with and of course, your hands. The gunplay itself is satisfying enough, but you'll probably find yourself trying to snipe with your tranq gun, because why wouldn't you? It's a Metal Gear game. Ground Zeroes also really drills in the need for stealth. Each mission on the camp takes place at different time of day and with roaming guards at different posts, not to mention shift changes after certain checkpoints. It can be fairly tense as the game changes around you. The game is optimized really well and looks great for an Xbox 360 / PS3 release. These graphics hold up better than most slop coming out today for modern consoles and PC. There's probably a lot more I could dig into here, but it's totally worth your time to figure these things out on your own. The intracies are endless and you'll be constantly finding new ways to play. Just don't listen to anyone calling this a tech demo for the Phantom Pain. It's a disservice to a game that Kojima and his crew put a lot of love and work into.

Ground Zeros is a short but polished prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It showcases tight stealth gameplay, stunning visuals, and an open-ended mission structure that encourages replayability. While the main story mission is brief at around 1–2 hours—it’s packed with atmosphere and tension. I clocked at around 6 hours of game time but this was after collecting the XOF patches, cassette tapes and getting an S rank on both normal/hard difficulties. I'd highly suggest purchasing the definitive experience which comes with both GZ and TPP including the DLC.

Now, I feel it's very important to note, that in my opinion, this is a game that will be best enjoyed by the hardcore Metal Gear fan, not that it wouldn't be enjoyed by someone new to the series, just that content wise and game wise, the non Metal Gear fan may not find enough here to justify the $20.00. To Metal Gear fans like myself, however, this game is absolutely essential, not only for the story told, but also (mainly) to unlock cool extras in The Phantom Pain. I personally like that the difficulty is ramped up here compared to The Phantom Pain, I like Ground Zeroes for the challenge. Graphics-Amazing. The FOX Engine is awesome indeed! Gameplay-Some of the best in the series, some of the best in the stealth genre, some of the best in the military/war genre.

A very good prologue that teaches you the basics before playing phantom pain and within 30 minutes shows you the story before ending. The best part of ground zeroes are the missions in this due to them have different objectives and different weather causing the player to change their play style. Camp Omega is one of the best designed stealth area in the series by it being small and tightly packed with smart ai that will notice if something wrong. truly peak game play of the series.

Alright demo but i would have liked a better options menue and not beeing forced to sit through the credits midway thru a cutscene, everything else really is really nice and it has a decent amount of content for beeing just 2GB. Gotta appreciate Konami for their solid port which really isnt a given with AAA titles.

A nice short story for a mature audience with some controversial content and good support for modern controllers like my Xbox Series S controller. Nice. I ran into a few things I didn't like though: playing the game on Ubuntu 24.10 with Steam Proton in full screen mode results in the image being shifted a little down and to the right, making the Ubuntu desktop's task bar visible, which was mildly annoying. The game was fully playable after I switched to windowed mode in the main menu, but this comes with the downside of being a less immersive experience. The game also lacks support for ultrawide monitors with modern resolutions like 3440x1440.

basically a PAID demo of phantom pain, the game ends once you rescue chico and paz but if i were you, just buy the phantom pain game, but if u really love some more metal gear, this is also gud enough, the world is capable of emergent gameplay and the fact that this is a prelude to the events of phantom pain keeps the experience good

Purchasable demo that gives you Story after "Peace Walker" event and plot that will continue in Phantom Pain. Beside story that this "Demo" gives it wouldn't be a MGS game if it doesn't challenge a player to try to beat himself and try to beat a game in higher difficulty with specific rules, also you get another missions that you can finish. Game is from first moment to very last filled with amazing details and graphics, beautifully made cinematics. I was and will always be a fan of Metal Gear Solid series since i was young fella, but i wouldn't recommend this only If you really like MGS and you want to have bit of fun that this short game gives than go for it, you will definitely get that, but personally i would wait for sale to buy it.

First experience with the metal gear series and this was a fun prologue to the main game. Fun stealth, good visuals, that Kojima charm. All in all a fun time. With the disaster that is Hitman pricing on PC, this has been a welcome way to get my stealth fix.

Ground Zeroes is a slick, well-made appetizer for The Phantom Pain—but that’s exactly the problem: it’s an appetizer that was sold separately years before the main course. Don’t get me wrong, the gameplay here is tight. The visuals are gorgeous, the controls are smooth, and the open-ended stealth sandbox shows just how far the series had evolved. Sneaking around Camp Omega is genuinely fun, and replaying missions with different objectives adds some replay value. But for a “prologue,” it’s very short. The main mission can be finished in under an hour, and while the side missions help pad things out, it’s hard to shake the feeling that this entire package should’ve just been the first chapter of The Phantom Pain. Releasing it years earlier at a premium price felt like a cash grab at the time—and even now, it still stings a little. Still, as a bite-sized dose of tactical espionage action, Ground Zeroes does its job. Just be prepared for the nagging thought that you probably should’ve played this as part of MGSV, not as a separate experience.

Short but sweet. You'll sit down and beat it in one sitting and it leads directly into Phantom Pain so regardless of how you might feel about Ground Zeroes, it may be a good idea to at least play the main mission and forget about the side ops.

Great prologue game for the Phantom Pain. You are introduced to most of the elements you will have in the main game. Great stealth.

This is a unique and content packed mini-release. It's like the world's best tech demo. If Phantom Pain was as condensed as this it would've been GOAT.

This game is a great starting point if you’ve somehow still not played Phantom Pain. I remember when we got this for free on Xbox back when it first came out and I couldn’t wait for the base game to release as this was just a prologue to help ease you in on how Phantom Pain would play and feel along with some progress and extra content you could gain by uploading your data. It’s a really good stealth game, all based on one map but having multiple missions to complete in the same area. It’s really good how they’ve done it and it’s a nice little mess about for a low price if you’ve somehow still can get it on sale.

Snake, residual phase bleed has been triangulated from a deprecated thermionic stack nested beneath Object Lira — a hydrophonic sub-array once catalogued as Polyarny Station 12, later re-designated during Khrushchev’s Quiet Expansion under Directive 9-K (Mirrored Horizons Initiative). Supposedly dismantled post-Chernogorsk Accord, though local memory architecture implies a bureaucratic burn-layer rather than physical decommissioning. The locals — when they spoke — called it Vedminy Kolodets, The Witch’s Well. On paper, it was a psycho-tectonic substrate survey, but field notes recovered from the Arkhangelsk Locker suggest the array functioned more as an ideological lithograph — tracking political guilt like seismographs track tectonic displacement. Think Cold War mood ring, built from regret and river mud. At some point — likely post-’79 but pre-Kyshtym Memorandum breach — GRU-Sigma annexed the site under their Chrono-Echo Initiative. Cipher’s Eastern Cell eventually inherited the remains, though their metadata footprint indicates purposeful obfuscation under a protocol cluster labeled “TANDEM LEXICON // INTERIOR SALT.” A signal burst emerged last week — scrambled into decaying Molniya orbital telemetry, nested within unused telemetry error-correction tables. Encrypted payload: Sub-Doctrine XIII liturgical scrap, encoded in palindromic hex, spliced with a reversed audio byte from Brezhnev’s second funeral rehearsal. The message repeated in clipped Old Church Slavonic: “Goon.” (Literal translation uncertain; may indicate subunit loyalty rank or degraded mnemonic trigger.) Initial analysis points to reactivation attempts of the MK-Δ Core, a cognitive dampening interface allegedly derived from Vorkuta’s Noetic Compression Logs — journals scribbled during induced aphasia states. The MK-Δ’s last recorded behavior included recursive negation loops and what ONI called “perception shadowcasting.” If the Core reboots, the Treaty of False Memory collapses, the Caesium Threshold resets, and we lose the semiotic firewall between event and interpretation. History stops being a sequence and starts being a reflection — endlessly deferred, endlessly reasserted. The Baudrillard crowd would eat this up. Your vector: HALO glide insertion, zero-telemetry trace. Objective: Infiltrate the substructure. Locate and disable mnemonic anchors (likely obfuscated as topological paradoxes or echo traps). Retrieve the synesthetic key embedded in the audio substrate of a banned Comintern lullaby — last heard in fragment during a jamming incident at the ’84 Tashkent Trade Expo. Leave no trail. Assume temporal bleed. If the clocks run backward — adjust your heartbeat accordingly. Then you proceed to play a 30 minute stealth game, of which 15 minutes is comprised of waiting. Recommended if you don't have the attention span to read a very mid convoluted spy novel but still want the weak dopamine hit of slow gameplay.
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES – 100% Completion Review
All achievements earned, all S-Ranks secured, every XOF patch collected, every cassette tape found Ground Zeroes is often dismissed as a glorified demo, but completing everything exposes a stealth sandbox packed with mechanical depth and narrative weight. The game takes place in a single open-ended map, a Cuban black site crawling with guards, spotlights, and shifting patrols. Your goal is simple: infiltrate, extract two prisoners, exfiltrate. But how you do that is anything but. Crouch-walk through storm drains. Hijack a chopper. Clear the base silently or leave scorched earth. Every system from enemy AI to weather timing responds intelligently to your playstyle. At 100 percent, Ground Zeroes becomes a test lab for stealth perfectionists. You will replay the same map under radically different conditions: daylight ops, timed rescues, nighttime sabotage runs. Getting S-Ranks requires precision, speed, and creative problem-solving. The map never changes, but how you interact with it constantly evolves. The story, brief as it is, lands hard. The final cutscene is pure Kojima: melodramatic, operatic, and haunting. It sets the emotional and thematic tone for The Phantom Pain, and completing every mission and collectible gives it the context it deserves.

Are you feelin' numb? Not a word they say But a voiceless crowd isn't backin' down When the air turns red With a loaded hesitation Can you say my name? Has the memory gone? Are you feelin' numb?
