One of the example of masterclass that dictated the rules for the entire genre. Can't be overstated just how impressive this game is- albeit it inevitably has some micromanaging, some clunkiness in the interface... beautifully imperfect. Always testing you, never unfair. It requires a good reading of the manual and proper thinking. No hand-holding. Vastly improved by the modding community- especially Open X-Com.

I loved this game back in the 90s, and regardless of it looking a bit dated there's no doubt the actual game play is still fantastic, as I still love it. The whole out of mission aspect of research and building your bases up and getting funding. I know the series has some newer versions but I can't help but think this exact game with some brushed up visuals would have been a better option.
