calling this hidden gem is just as much of a crime as me getting away with this for like $4 on discount, this is better then a hidden gem its the whole bloody geode. I have no clue how this thing isn't more popular!!! A sweet and subtly hilarious, walking sim meets horror game, which has a beautiful clash of graphics from 2D + 3D mix to old retro firstperson this game perfectly uses its media to drive a interesting narrative. The games short which is fine given you're kinda expected to play through twice (dont worry the second time comes with some quality of life shortcuts which streamline the process). 3 endings, the good of which was super satisfying and attention grabbing to the last second. I guess I should give some negatives, some of the game is abit slow paced, one of the artist levels in particular kinda just got on my nerves stumbling around invisible people, but honestly any annoyance was very short lived. I highly suggest to the dev to add steam achievements it really adds more incentives to play these more smaller games. Elsewise: TLDR: Short, sweet, cheap, entertaining play 9.5/10

This is hardly even a game. It's like a visual novel, but there is no dialogue- which isn't a problem on its own but if you're gonna go that route you have to add more interesting context clues. There was some stuff I could piece together like the story of the 2 siblings and the devil guy we see, but the potential of all of that was squandered. I didn't mind the slow walking too much, but it would've been a lot more bearable if there was more to do. More story to see, maybe even a few easter eggs? Also the endings were so abrupt and lame. I didn't bother getting the 3rd one because honestly the more I played this the more of a chore it became. There are things I liked about this game, I liked getting thrown into it with no tutorial (at least for the first 20 minutes before it stopped being fun), I loved the design of the many rooms to see, so much love was put into the art of this game and you can tell- it's simple but it's lively and cute and some of the trippy looking rooms were awesome, but that does not make up for the total lack of interesting gameplay and story. The lack of dialogue was executed poorly, it's always kind of risky to do something like that, but not enough context was given to the overall story, and what was given was kinda surface level and just lame. Barely any character building, and the several endings things sucks because I don't want to play through the game all over again just to see the other endings when it's going to feel like a chore. I recommend you do not buy this game, I think there was a lot of cool potential ways this could've gone but this was the worst outcome. I hope if there are any future releases from the people who made this that they are more polished and well fleshed out than this, because I am immensely disappointed, as I was really excited to play this game.

Loved the art style and the variation of game play mechanics, reminded me of having a nightmare

i'm gonna be honest! i had very high expectations for this game ever since i saw the trailer for the first time in 2021. it was a nice surprise to see it was mostly a walking simulator (i enjoy those!). however, i feel like the story didn't hook me at all, so it took me a couple months to finish it. i ended up getting the bad ending, but i don't really feel up to checking all of the other ones :( that really bummed me out. but! i think what stood out the most to me, and its best trait is how visually beautiful it is. i really enjoyed how each area of the train worked and how unexpected and varied each of them was. i do recommend it though. it's a cool experience and i don't usually get jumpscared but this one got me a little lol

No idea what the interact button is, I've been trying to pick up this fuckass bag for 20 minutes to no avail. I started mashing my keyboard then accidently started some dev mode or some shit and started flying or smt and broke the camera. Then it randomly started working and I got on the train and there are no textures, so as of right now im re downloading the game hoping it'll fix it. Also, it's in Russian for some reason. But so far it's been great fun!

reviews weren't joking when they called it a walking simulator. The game relies heavily on jumpscares, and soundscares, felt sort of tacky, even though the art style is very cute.

One of my favorite games literally ever. This game's style, aesthetic, and design in every possible angle is absolutely stunning, and after replaying Subway Midnight yet again a few years later that hasn't changed. While certain puzzles leave room for appreciation for sure (and I totally understand why that can be such a turn-off for this game), it was thrilling figuring them all out again and still feeling accomplished right after doing so. The charm makes this game phenomenal and I beyond recommend playing if you can seriously push past the very few insane puzzles that Subway Midnight offers.
