Everything about this game is absolute cinema, the OST, the character design, the lore, the Cutscenes, absolutely perfect, Bravo Hideo Kojima

This isn't the best port, but it also isn't terrible. Out of the box, I found it a bit lacking; however, installing the MGSHDFIX mod for some configuration options, some texture and HD audio upgrades, and the game quickly becomes one of the best ports I have played. An important thing to note is that if you start playing and the game seems like it's playing in slow-mo, you'll need to go into your graphics driver control panel and manually set the FPS. I set mine to 60 and it's now playing perfectly. No crashes, no throttling, so far it's been an excellent experience. I bought it on sale. Too bad it doesn't have Peace Walker, and we'll likely never see a serviceable port of MGS4

MGS3. This is kinda the best and worst MGS game at the same time. It's a very difficult game. There's a lot of interesting ideas and mechanics here and that's part of what makes it so good, but also what makes it so frustrating to play and if you've seen Kojima's recent comments about divisiveness with regards to Death Stranding 2, then you can probably see why Snake Eater is such a masterpiece. It's a slog, so settle in for that. It's much more slow paced than the previous two games and the lack of a radar proper mean it's not unusual to spend a while lying in the grass observing guard patterns. It's also clunkier on the controls than MGS2, because it tries to do more, kind of a blessing and a curse. That said, it is very rewarding when getting through the game just because of how tough it can be. You really do exhale with relief with each bit of progress made. Don't mistake tough for impossible though. The bossfights are challenging but as always, you generally have multiple methods at your disposal to get through them. The camo and CQC systems are the big shift from MGS1/2 and are rewarding and frustrating in equal measure. It's also a credit to Konami that they left this untouched by the censors. Kojima chose a very... interesting style for this game, leaning heavily into the earlier spy flicks. There was already a lot of James Bond style influence in the series but here it feels like Kojima lampoons it to the point of absurdity. I don't wanna leave any spoilers, but if you find it unusual how a certain character is sexualised, consider why. Kojima didn't do it just because he's a horndog. You are meant to question it. There's a discussion to be had there between you and the Kojima in your head, which is the case of earlier games too. As with all things Kojima it feels 50/50 that he has both a point he wants to get across and is also just trolling us for the hell of it. Anyway, it will be the most frustrating, but most rewarding MGS experience. The Master Collection version is great, again feeling just like the PS2 version and really hitting that nostalgia button. Sure it could use some minor QOL, but what game can't these days?

Not just one of the greatest games ever made but one of the greatest stories ever written. I'm truly at a loss for words at what is at hand here. Absolute masterpiece that everyone should experience at least once in their life. This is a lot more rewarding to play after playing the games in release order since it wraps things together pretty nicely that have been mentioned in the prior releases. Also, I've never cried at the ending of a game like I did in this one. She was a true patriot.

Just finished my very first playthrough of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater... Man, how does Kojima do it? Literally every game is an improvement over the other and MGS3 is certainly no exception to this! For a 2004 game, in terms of attention to detail, MGS3 is EXCELLENT in that regard! It legit has more details than +90% of modern games released today! The story, cinematography, music, and voice acting is excellent and is in fact some of the best i have seen in gaming. Big Boss is an excellently written character, and his transformation into the eventual villain in the series makes a lot of sense by the end of the game after what happened to him and I am sure this will be more elaborated on in Peace Walker (Konami please release Vol 2!) and MGS5 when I get to play them. The gameplay and stealth mechanics are excellent and are improved over Metal Gear Solid 2, CQC especially has seen a massive improvement and it is always fun to use! I love the addition of the Camo system and the Survival Viewer, it really does add a lot of realism and detail to the game! Overall, Metal Gear Solid 3 is an excellent stealth game and is without a doubt, one of the best games ever made with a truly amazing story! I give Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater a 10/10, an absolute MASTERPIECE❤️🐍! Go play this masterpiece as soon as you can! I'm also super excited and can't wait for METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER!

The game itself is great but this is still a really bad port even after all the updates. The game still only renders at 720p and if you want to use higher resolutions you have to use pretty terrible looking upscaling. Gamma is still completely off with the game looking really washed out. Audio is still much lower quality than older versions of the game. They have also tried to add mouse and keyboard support but the mouse controls feel terrible. Mods completely fixing all of these issues were created straight after this came out, but the port still hasn't been fixed officially more than a year later.

Hard to put into words, I've beaten this game many times before but its still, years later, very very difficult to put into words how much I deeply love this game and metal gear as a whole. I'm also just too lazy to type out a steam review for an entire day of my life, if not more.

MGS3 manages to improve on the previous entry in the series in pretty much every way and it also manages to inovate. This game, you see, has survival mechanics. Now I'm not a huge fan of survival games, but the way these mechanics function here adds so much to the game and I enjoy it. Overall, the game is a lot more realistic than the first two and it really makes you feel like you're having to use every tool at your disposal in order to survive. The story, just like the previous games, is amazing. This time around the game is set during the cold war and it (intentionally) feels a lot like an old Bond movie, but it manages to flip the Bond formula on its head in a few ways, and is in general very interesting and philosophical, much like the first two games. 9/10

pretty happily in my top 3 games of all time and easily the best metal gear game. from start to finish it is constantly beautiful especially for a game from 2004, some of the most creative mechanics ever and it holds some of the best written characters in metal gear and by extention, gaming. in the 3 times ive played this game the only time i havent had fun was due to difficulty which was no fault of the game. (not all my playthroughs are on pc to explain my short hours played) perfect

You're missing out on one of the best stories ever told in video games by not playing this masterpiece! Or you can wait for the remake but I doubt Konami will do a decent job with it. Hope I'm proven wrong.

this is one of the greatest games of all time, and despite being labeled as "outdated" it really isn't that hard to adjust to, and learning its mechanics and techniques feels extremely rewarding and satisfying. The sound design is top tier, and every encounter and boss fight encourages and rewards creativity and critical thinking. The game's story is even more compelling and beautiful, and it's an emotional roller coaster all the way through. play this game. You will not regret it

This game makes me angry. grrrr. The controls are absolute garbage. It's Retro legacy design that would always frustrate the heck out of me every boss fight. Aiming in first person is horrendous. I'll have have to give it a break since it was designed in 2004, but playing this game in 2025 is painful. I would have tossed this game into the bin if not for it's intriguing story line to keep me interested. It has good stealth and interesting boss fights, but trying to do combat with this outdated system is very frustrating. The cutscenes and dialogue were sometimes comically over the top, but like a good pop corn flick, entertaining. Stealth is optional as you can just blast your way through most of the time and bullets do no damage at all to you. It would have been nice to move crouched instead of forcing you to crawl. There were a few questionable design choices that would never pass quality assurance standards today and left me wondering who the heck tested this game at times. Overall it was worth the play, but I still think 1 & 2 edge this one out. Maybe the remaster will fix the major issues with this legacy game and bring it from a B- to and A

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: Snake Eater - Master Collection Version review This game made me want to taste snake meat. I tried those Calorie Mates the game promoted (they were okay but a bit dry). I even ate one Russian ration (it was tasty - Snake doesn't know what he is talking about). I hope some day I get to taste snake one day but I'm not getting my hopes up. But onto the review. This is the best MGS-game ever imo even though it is a tight competition. As good as MGS4 and 5 are, with their modern controls, this game has the best story out of any MGS-game, IMO it beats even MGS2 when it comes to that. If you are interested in this game's story, you get no spoilers from me, I recommend that you just play it. The gameplay is certainly good for it even though this is an old game at this point. The bosses can be very hard to beat, much so on Hard difficulty but even more so on Extreme (I personally can't get past Fear on Extreme). This is more gameplay heavy than either of previous MGS games, which is the reason I like it so much. I also like how many items in the game have multiple uses which reminds me of Deus Ex. The soundtrack is better than both MGS1 and 2. There would be a lot to say about the game... but I want to keep it short for the most part when it comes to Steam reviews so I'll just call this 9+/10 game. Much to love here for any stealth fan. If you've played MGS2 or 1 previously, this game is a good sequel for those.

This is my first experience with Metal Gear Solid, and it was great. Controls are wack but they can be fixed if you get a community template for the controls while using a controller. The story was amazing so I definitely think this is worth a shot if you were thinking about trying.

This game is great the combat is surprisingly good the stealth is fun the story is Excellent. Snake is also really cool obviously. the only downside to this game is learning the controls because there a little janky but once you learn them you have a great stealth game about Big boss or snake plus a absolute great main theme song that just makes the moment even better. Eva is also really cool and revolver ocelot is a cool guy too. I also came from metal gear rising revengeance to this so a big change of gameplay .Now go Eat a snake you snake eater.

"An absolute masterpiece, despite the cuts." Metal Gear Solid 3 is a mind-blowing experience. The story is beautifully written, emotional, and full of unforgettable moments. The stealth gameplay is incredibly satisfying, blending tension and creativity in a way few games can. Unfortunately, this HD Collection version is missing some content from the original game, likely due to the fallout between Konami and Kojima. It’s a real shame for long-time fans. Still, the upscaling and smooth 60 FPS make it very enjoyable on modern systems. Even with the missing parts, Kojima’s vision shines through—this is a true peak in video game history.

Best in the series Very interesting storyline with its twists and turns, has some cheesy moments in some cutscenes but i think it adds to the charm. The soundtrack is really good too that adds to the serious and action packed moments throughout the game. Controls may take an hour or so to get used to but arn't that bad. If you like stealth games with a good storyline you should definitely play this. 10/10

I don't really care though, I'M PLAYING MGS3 FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graphics-wise I knew what I was getting into, but I just can't with these controls. The Metal Gears I knew from the back in the day had lots of slick control actions based on analog sticks and pressure-sensitive buttons, and felt great to play. But this is just janky. My analog stick goes from standing still to running with no walking phase in between, and raising my weapon doesn't even work. Other people have mentioned issues with CQC moves not behaving right, because the pressure sensitive buttons aren't present. It feels clumsy and gross. They needed to rework the controls for this, but it seems like they just threw their hands up and went "Meh, it'll do". I was really looking forward to playing this, but I'd rather just find a dusty old PS2 somewhere and play it on that. Disappointed.
Kept you waitin' huh?
What's there to say that hasn't already been said? This game is a 20 year old classic, there have been reviews praising it and criticising it. Sure it would've been nice if it was a newly done remaster that had the more modern features from the 3DS port while still keeping all the original PS2 content intact, but then Konami wouldn't be able to charge us for a "ground up remake in Unreal Engine" :). That aside this port from the HD Collection is fine, perfectly playable and most of the bugs/issues from launch have been fixed by now, but unless you're a fan of the series there's probably little of value for you here now with Delta coming out on the horizon.
