The Falconeer

Can I recommend this game? No(?) This game appears to embrace that which makes the best games great, 'easy to learn, hard to master.' There's clearly a well developed, well designed, well planned game here. As a matter of fact I would say that about 94.7% of the game is an easy slam dunk. No questions asked. The issue is the learning. It's... not great. I spent a good 20 to 40 minutes trying to figure out how to land. I actually deleted my save data and restarted (that wasn't a huge deal, I was barely into the game) thinking that I had missed something in the tutorial. Oh, My, Gosh, this was rough. Yes, I felt like an idiot for missing the big text on top, but that didn't appear until I had button mashed my way into 'success' a few times. Oh, and the fishing. I still don't know how to catch fish, and I passed the quest for it! That's...bad. Really bad. I get that nobody wants to have their 'hand held' for everything, but that's what optional tutorials are for! Hand holding! I shouldn't pass a quest by sheer dumb luck! Barring that, I should probably know how the mechanic works, even if it is hard/complex/whatever! The worst part about this is that the game dev understood that this game was complex, was hard, and included a walkthrough...that didn't include a detailed method for fishing/landing. While one of those was a small mechanic that will decided your fate in life and death situations, the other is a frustrating slog the longer you struggle through it; though if you figure it out you will use it for the rest of the game. But is the game bad? No. Not at all. If you can struggle through the first few hours while you figure out the basics of what you're doing (taking the game to 'hard to learn, hard to master') then you'll have a blast. Seriously. It'll be a lot of fun for you. And if you do buy it, play it, and enjoy it, please feel free to stop by and tell me how the hell you catch fish. I still can't figure that one out.

If you like the idea of being a small part of a larger whole - this is it. Especially if you like airships/steampunk.

It only took a few minutes of me trying to navigate controls that only seemed to work when they wanted to while I crashed into things and couldn't figure out what to do to decide this was not a fun game. I've never left a review like this on a game only minutes in and usually I'd be biased because I LOVE birds, but no. Just no.

Isn't much but the worldbuilding is stunning.

difficult, but i like it. the dogfighting is fun.
