Look, you're not going to be happy. There are 2 ways to play this game and either way you're going to be upset. Either you play vanilla and the achievements don't work 100%, or you downgrade and accept your fate with any bugs along the way. I chose the later and had to close my eyes and pray quite a few times. On 1.09, I had cutscenes freeze and only play audio (I could skip and resume gameplay, or restart and fix it all together). Then I had to restart a mission because a story trigger didn't appear. Other times I would exit a car and the radio would keep playing, even if I triggered a conversation. Much later, while playing a DLC, I got a crash during a loading screen after completing a mission and my save got corrupted, but I was able to recover (thankfully the game creates 3 save files you can copy and rename, or you'll have to make manual saves of your AppData along the way). So, curb your expectations and roll up your sleeves, there's musclin' to be done. Disrupt rackets, flip/clip informants, draw out the lieutenants, and slay the head cheese. Build a gang, keep everyone happy, or let there only be one. Steal a police car and feed a body (even yours!) to a gator. The usual criminal stuff. You'll need 2 playthroughs for everything, if you plan it right the second will be way quicker. You need to save quite a bit of money, and you'll also need to spend a lot too, so plan ahead, synchronize your DLC's with your story progression, and you should be golden. I did 2 DLC's with the first playthrough, and the other DLC with my second. Don't get stuck after the game with nothing to do but idle and let the game cycle bring in another kickback, just because you bought something you didn't need and still need to upgrade the bar or your weed stand! The city isn't too big so traveling and hitting all your targets felt within reach. You can definitely knock out a good chunk in plenty of time. I watched hella movies and tv. Sadly, there's not really that much variety in how you achieve your goals. At first I was sneaky, but after however many knockouts I got, I just ran past everyone before they could react, then shoot my target and get the hell outta there. The police will mostly leave you alone if it's just you versus the other gangs. The police also seem like they have no idea how to use a shortcut or drive down an alley. Enemies in general just kind of stand there waiting for you to pop them. Checks notes: "Difficulty: Easy." Ah. "Tell me about his rackets." ... "Man with a gun!" Witness is calling the police. To be fair, the only really cool parts of the story was the Ferris Wheel and the gambling ship. Either I wasn't interested or wasn't following closely (probably I just missed everything because nothing was playing!), but it was all sort of... forgettable. The action was sort of dull, and yeah, I kept thinking the graphics looked blurry. I liked the Stones Unturned DLC, the cult one was alright, and Faster, Baby was fine. Still, I weathered the storm and the game served its purpose of driving and shooting, a couple of screen grabs with subtitles on, and another gold star. So... glhf and stay strong.

Damn......I loved this game.. It certainly wasn't a "Mafia" game but it was a good game none the less. I did run into some issues though like... - Stupid AI that would dive off the pavement in front of your car, or get out of their cars WHILST driving and start running away because you drove near them. - What ever the hell is wrong with the mirror reflections (IYKYK) - Sometimes having to reload checkpoints because certain cut scenes wouldn't trigger but not knowing that until I had been driving to the location for 15 mins - Progression might get repetitive for others but something about checklists tickles my brain good But all that being said, I had an awesome time playing this game, driving was satisfying, story was cheesy but in all the right ways, Lincoln was played and voiced really well, Donovan is an absolute bro just lots to like! Some returning faces and nods to series vets was appreciated, really looking forward to Old Country, not that the events in this game will mean anything but was nice to replay the first 2 and play this for the first time! Should you play it? Well yes, but only if you enjoy these types of games, it does nothing new or ground breaking, its a cheesy revenge story in a setting I'm very fond of so I was bound to enjoy it, if you don't like 60's rock music and muscle cars then you may struggle after a few hours.... Hope that helps!! <3

The American south is a nice setting, not like the generic rows of glass towers, brick buildings and tarmac you see everywhere else in the US. The driving also feels good for once, but there the positives end. A Mafia game's strength is in its plot. Lincoln's story is bogged down by mandatory open world copypaste quests, diluted by homeopathic "player choice" masking the writer's lack of commitment to a meaningful plot direction, and robbed of any immersion or subtlety by the reality TV format. They barely put any effort into making you care about Paddy Carbomb or that Haitian girl, so why have them? The only partner Lincoln needs is Vito. They share a background as former special forces who got mixed up in a system of crime that murdered everyone they cared about, and they have what they need to take it down. Lincoln is a one man army. Vito knows the business, and he lacks someone he can trust and respect enough to succeed him, so Lincoln could grow to become that person throughout the story, but enough fanfiction nonsense. The story was designed not to play good, but to look good on powerpoint slides presented to a board of nepo execs who need unpaid interns to help them open a PDF. This game won't even run right. 2K completely forgot how to make video games.

Story line is good. Gameplay gets repetitive after certain time which leads to speedrun of the end game. Combat- 8/10 Story - 9.2/10 Narrative - 9.2/10

Almost 10 years after I still see the game, that did as many right turns as it did wrong ones. Main story and missions are satisfying, while general open world gameplay is a bore. Atmosphere, music, cars and the city are charming, but visuals and graphics are horrendous. Shootouts are quite dynamic and stealth is now present as an alternative, but AI is a joke most of the times. DLC's are some of my favorites, but the basic game itself is so buggy, that everytime you enjoy something - it either crashes, or sound goes silent, or graphics start killing your eyesight etc,. And the list goes on, but at the end of the day I don't consider Mafia 3 an explicitly bad game, like I don't consider "Scarface: The World is Yours" a complete and utter failure, for example. These games are of the same nature - they tried to do something different, but ended up messy and somewhat unfinished. Wait for a discount, check out the DLC's, listen to some Creedence and Eric Clapton, and don't bother puting it into a comparison with other "Mafia" games, like you don't compare it with Far Cry.

Broken. I have to disable fullscreen before launching, then I have to disable VSYNC, turn on fullscreen then enable VSYNC. Also watch out, don't press windows button because the game will freeze and you'll have to do everything again. Gameplay is also trash.

This game is so boring. It´s called Mafia, but its more like GTA. Not more like, it is actually GTA. Story of this game makes no sense. Boring repetetive missions for 3/4 of game, just to have the final mision, that should be like crazy awesome experience, and after all, its just again the same as for the whole game. The final mission took so short time, that after I played it, i was just sitting and said, "what the fuck is this game design". I played it just because I wanted to finish my trilogy, but I will never play it again. First mafia was awesome, Second was OK. And then this third one is just dishonest to the "Mafia" brand, same as Mafia 1 definitive edition... I will never reccomend to play this to anyone.

NOTE: Game crashed from shortcut on desktop, but launching through steam and selecting the menu/launcher option from the pop up (rather than just launching the game) allowed it to be played full screen (although it gave a warning my system was not up to spec - nonsense). I really enjoyed the first 2 Mafia games but this one is poor by comparison. The developers seemed addicted to making a GTA San Andreas clone but set in the 1960s. The premise isn't too bad, main character and his family get betrayed by Mafia boss and all killed except the main character, who then goes on a Rambo-esque mission of revenge against all those involved. Unfortunately, there's very little variety in the gameplay. It's all go to some docks/warehouse/church, kill a bunch of bad guys and then hand it over to an NPC to control and gather money passively. Repeat this 9 x 4 times and you've got your gameplay. There is also a noticeable "civil rights vs racist rednecks" vibe going on throughout. Not sure it really matters what colour the guy is and why that's included but whatever. There are a few other issues as well such as you can change your clothes, but during the cutscenes you are wearing your standard ex-army outfit again which spoils the continuity. Other additions such as an instant weapon delivery van and instant save your money in a vault are completely unrealistic and make it too easy. On the plus side, the radio is good as are the cars and vehicles and I do like the "witness calling police" concept although easy to deal with. Hopefully the upcoming game (Old Country) is more like the old ones than this (oh and is actually to do with the Mafia).

this game is broken, save yourself the trouble and just get it on console if you can on sale. I could not get it to work with any controller i used. I had to play in windowed mode because it would instantly crash, I tried several different fixes, none worked. iv got a 3060 and 16 gigs of ram. A PC port this botched in 2016 is inexcusable. thankfully I got this game dirt cheap. XD

Genuinely loved the game, best characters, best protagonist, best story, best music, cars, setting, guns, etc, but fucking 2k has somehow numptied the whole damn game so it is literally impossible to launch for lots of players due to some bullshit concerning drivers and whatnot. similar issues happening on mafia 1 DE too apparently. with mafia TOC coming out its safe to say the retards at 2k probably wont do a damn thing about this. i did manage to get it running after doing all kinds of shit it the game config files, formatting my drivers, and c++ bs, but it still wont run in fullscreen. unfortunately cannot recommend this honestly amazing game until (prayer to god) 2k fixes it. (oh and if you do buy it, block my2k and the 2k launcher with windows firewall or whatever you use. if you know, you know.)

Mafia III – A Flawed But Ambitious Crime Story Mafia III is a game that swings for the fences — and while it doesn’t always hit them, it deserves credit for what it does get right. First off, the setting is masterfully done. New Bordeaux — a stand-in for 1960s New Orleans — is a living, breathing city, and the game doesn’t shy away from portraying the ugliness of that time. Walking in the shoes of Lincoln Clay, a black man in the deep South during one of America’s most racially charged eras, is often an uncomfortable experience — but that’s a testament to how authentic and unflinching the game’s world-building is. The casual racism, institutional oppression, and constant tension you feel in public spaces immerse you deeply in a world that few games dare to explore. Lincoln himself is a strong protagonist with clear motivations, and Alex Hernandez gives a solid performance in the role. That said, the writing sometimes feels too restrained, leaving Lincoln feeling a bit stilted — not due to Hernandez’s abilities (which are considerable), but because the material doesn’t always give him enough emotional range to showcase. I would have loved to see more of Hernandez’s depth brought to the forefront; the potential was definitely there. Unfortunately, where Mafia III starts to falter is in its mission design. The first half of the game pulls you in, but as you get deeper, the lack of variety becomes glaring. The structure boils down to: interrogate some guys, destroy rackets, take out mid-boss, repeat — until the "real" boss appears. This rinse-and-repeat formula gets tiresome, and I found myself intentionally letting missions go sideways just to spice up the experience. Had the game leaned harder into more diverse mission scenarios or deeper narrative-driven set pieces, it could have been something special. Interestingly, playing Mafia III often felt more like playing a Punisher game than a Mafia one. The brutal combat, the revenge-driven story, and Lincoln’s lone-wolf persona gave me serious Frank Castle vibes — not a bad thing in itself, but a tonal departure from what many expect from a "Mafia" game. Which brings me to my final point: you never quite feel like you’re in the mafia. Yes, you build your own criminal empire with the likes of fan-favorite Vito Scaletta, and newcomers Burke and Cassandra, but it all feels disconnected from the traditional organized crime experience. There’s little sense of hierarchy, tradition, or "family" — it’s more a vendetta-fueled war machine than a true mafia operation. Final Verdict: Mafia III is a bold and atmospheric game with an exceptional sense of time and place. It offers a unique perspective rarely explored in gaming, anchored by a protagonist who deserved an even stronger narrative. Unfortunately, the repetitive mission structure and tonal mismatch hold it back from greatness. There’s an excellent game in here — one that at times plays more like a Punisher simulator — but as a Mafia game, it never quite lives up to its name. Rating: 7/10

Where to begin... - This game keep crashing mid-mission and complete system lock up if I try to run in Full-screen. - The Devs have essentially abandoned it. - Friendly AI is so dumb / pathfinding - The UI sucks a$$. - Controls just feel clunky especially around corners. - Cut-scenes are a glitchy mess. Don't even buy this garbage.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, IT'S 100% BROKEN. Going into fullscreen mode with V-Sync on crashes the game. Without V-Sync, this game doesn't utilize G-Sync for some reason and there is insane screen-tearing. The game is also locked at 60 FPS in fullscreen mode, without the option to play in borderless fullscreen. You also cannot use Nvidia filters in this game, that means no MSAA injection, not RTX HDR, nothing. You might as well play this game on console, that's how bad of a PC port this is, you will have a better experience on there. No fixes on the internet solve this issue, I've tried for hours.

If you're avoiding playing Mafia 3 because some idiots labeled it as repetitive and the worst in the series, you should really give this game a try. I just fell in love with this game, the story was amazing, the characters and acting were perfect, and I loved the music, especially the New Bordeaux theme. The combat was just top notch, I've never had this much fun while killing enemies.

games fun but its just so messy and buggy, couldnt even finish the game because the story missions are hidden. just makes the time spent in this game so not worth it because youre basically forced to do some what, sub missions in order to actually do atleast one actual story mission. the sub missions doesnt really add that much to the story which is just boring in its way. the developers is basically saying "do two sub missions / brackets for each region, then we reward you only ONE story mission for that region where you take out that big bad boss for that region" then repeat for other regions until you finally reach the finale. then for some reason youll run into a bug where the story missions are hidden and youll know its a bug because aint no way you kill your first big bad for example and then games finished.
Do you know the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, just to finish the story and see there is nothing worth in the game. (9 "over" for 9 territories)
3/10 because the game had overall good cutscenes. Now, if you are completionist like me, the game deserves 0/10 totally. All the SUM achievements are glitched and they don't pop up. So you need to do all the SUM achs in one session. MEANING. You have to gather 500k$ in run, you have to spend 500k$ in one run in non-DLC and non-consumable materials.
You have to kill all racket bosses in 1 run, you have to spare all racket bosses in 1 run You have to reach max loyality of all 3 partners in 1 run etc.
100% was absolute nightmare, i realized i might not be so sane after finishing this 100%.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition takes players to a gritty, turbulent 1968 New Bordeaux — a beautifully recreated New Orleans-inspired city filled with vibrant culture and social unrest. This remastered version refines the original’s visuals and gameplay, delivering a darker, more mature narrative about revenge, race, and power. The standout feature remains the story of Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam War veteran seeking to dismantle the local mob and carve out his own legacy. Lincoln is a compelling protagonist, defined by his fierce loyalty and tragic past, and the game’s exploration of racial tensions and corruption adds weight and complexity rarely seen in open-world games. Visually, the Definitive Edition enhances lighting, textures, and character models, making the city feel more alive and immersive. The soundtrack is killer, perfectly capturing the late ‘60s vibe with classic rock, soul, and blues tracks that deepen the atmosphere. Gameplay mixes open-world exploration, stealth, and third-person shooting with a strong emphasis on strategic takedowns and territory control. However, some mission types can feel repetitive, and enemy AI occasionally slips into predictable patterns. While the improvements polish these elements, the core gameplay loop remains familiar to fans of the original release. Technical updates help with stability and performance, but minor bugs and glitches can still pop up, though they rarely derail the experience. In summary: Mafia III: Definitive Edition is a bold, story-driven crime saga that tackles tough themes with style and ambition. It’s a visually striking and emotionally charged game that sometimes stumbles in gameplay variety, but its narrative and setting make it a memorable entry in the Mafia series. Rating: 6/10

Would’ve made a great TV show, but as a game it’s mediocre. The story is entertaining and well-directed, and the city’s beautiful to zoom around in, but then you hit bad design choices like mandatory region cleanups just to progress the story. Finished it in 25 hrs and at least 15 of those were spent driving around doing empty tasks. Driving was fun for a while, but it gets old at some point. If you’ve got time, play it on easy, if not, just watch it on YouTube like a movie. Btw, native 1080p was super blurry for me. Highly recommend using DSR to upscale to 1440p (in my case) for a sharper image.

The main thing wrong with this one is that it does not feel like Mafia at all, it's totally different from the first two parts. This is a boring, repetitive and unpleasant piece of ... GRIND! OH! if that was enough, but this game is a glitchy and buggy mess, especially about achievements!!!(Requires multiple times to complete the game, that's crazy considering the stupid grind) Idk why the hell i gave a chance to this game, it was a painful expereince to complete it. - Better pass on this part and hope that the next one will be a real mafia.

Despite all the obvious flaws, to me it was an enjoyable experience. In gameplay, presentation and story elements it really doesnt resemble the rest of the Mafia-series, so if thats what youre looking for its not for you. It isnt graphically amazing and parts of the gameplay get repetitive quickly, some people (not me, but I also only played it recently) also seemed to be effected by crashes, buggs etc. I dont know if thats not an issue anymore or if I just got lucky though. Now on to the good parts: The story is well made, it gets you involved and since I was really invested in finishing it, I stuck even through all the uninteresting pieces of gameplay. That in itself is also pretty fun, just not very varied alltogether. The cutscenes are solid, and to me it was pretty fun altogether. Also, the music is fire. With it not really fitting into the series, uninnovative gameplay and the technical issues behind the title I wouldnt buy it at full price, but I got the definitive edition for 6 Euros on sale and for that, its well worth it to me.

Bought as part of the trilogy collection; Mafia 1 and 2 had no issues but 3 is where I've given up. Repetitive freezing when I tab out of the game; missions bugging to the point some of the 'Drive like a madman' missions start but dont make any progress, my car then freezes after a cutscene and no longer lets me move. Quite poorly optimized.

What a disappointment. I have played and loved the original two, and even played this when it first released on Xbox. Picked it up in the steam sale, but with a 4080 Super you get the "you don't have a computer that can run this game" message when you start up. Then if you start up the game in Full Screen mode, you literally cannot play it. It instantly freezes. No way around it with probably modding the game. Your only other option is to open the game launcher instead of just the game, and change the display settings in that. But there is only windowed, or fullscreen. No full screen windowed mode. In conclusion, I have played and beat the game on Xbox (minus the DLC), and enjoyed it. However this edition seems to be really bugged, and apparently no longer being fixed. Many of the most recent reviews are saying the exact same thing as me. Skip this buy.

I really enjoyed this game, but for some reason itll go to a loading screen and never stop. ended up restarting my game like 3 times before i realized i simply cant play that mission or finish that mission. most the time it fades off the first encounter and no problems after, but though good and fun arcade-y style, bugs that completely compromise your run and make you reload are quite irritating. Definitely a 5 of 10 game, but could have been a 8 or 9 if not for those faults, that become more excessive the closer towards the end you reach. game destroys itself before you can beat it.

This game critizes by people like ''Worst game ever'' but these people either don't play the game or play it very little. Still, there are many points to criticize. Positive things: *Game has a good storyline, that's why i finished *I think this game has BEST car driving mechanics *You can choose how to fight like stealthiness, calling back-up crew, calling a sniper... *Collectibles improved compared to previous game *I liked the logic of taking over territories *They captured the ambiance of the period with all reality (Some shops was ''White People Only'' and when you getting in cashiers kicks you out of the place) Negative things: *Too much bug *Most of the missions have same logic *Almost no interaction with the outside world (You could buy drinks, suits at Mafia II) *Outside world people are really dump and you can't interact with them (When you're driving fast they are fearing and jumping in front of the car) *It feels like it's not a MAFIA game sometimes (You're doing basic gang member missions like driving f*cking boring truck or steal cars) After all, I liked the game and people can give a chance but it doesn't felt me sometimes I'm in a MAFIA game. I think ''Hangar 13'' musn't make the Mafia IV. 2K must make the game themselves like previous games.

Worst game, bad direction, lost interest in the story due to repetitive missions, not optimized at all, I have a fairly new system and this game runs like absolute crapp. Do not buy it if you have anything below than GTX 1660Ti.

A strong game that feels like Mafia meets Godfather (game) and Scarface (game). I'm not sure why this game gets so much hate. Maybe If this wasn't called "Mafia 3" I'm sure people would be loving it. If you liked taking over rackets in the Godfather, and being able to gain money from said rackets, order guns and cars whenever you want (like in Scarface: The World is Yours), then you will love this game. Story is also very good - Starts off very strong and narrative based, but does get slower when recruiting Underbosses. Thankfully, it gets strong again when hunting down the crime family of the game. Not a 10/10, nor the best game in the series... But a solid one nonetheless.

Storytelling, dialogues, cutscenes, music, driving, shooting, atmosphere are awesome. This is a great game. But how stupid enemies in the game... There are a few bugs too which you can overcome only by exiting from the game. Well, no one can be perfect.

If you like roleplaying as a rogue special forces soldier in a US city bringing violence to the streets of a not so sober America then I say play this game and thrive in combat.

Poorly ported to PC. Normal gameplay in the world is blurry and boring. Do not pay more than 10 bucks for this one and only if you really enjoyed the first two (this comes nowhere close to those. actually nvm just play those instead) awkward race-baiting, dialogue doesn't have much depth at all. the story is a typical betrayal chapter 1 and then rebuild your empire type shit. boring cycle of "impress this gang boss by doing something crazy for them to join your crew" then you get revenge (ez)

Don't know if many would agree, but I think this is the best of the trilogy. That being said, this game feels like it has so much more potential. It just feels under baked in a lot of ways. The characters, potential mission variety and set pieces, gameplay, and open world all could've been so much more with the premise of Lincoln Clay and his story. Not sure I'd recommend the trilogy, in general, but if you're going to play one, play this one or maybe two.

Amazing story, great gameplay But the game runs horribly, if the story wasn't so good I would not recommend it. Stutters, crashes, resource hog and non working fullscreen

Had this game in my library for a while and decided to give it a play when I heard the Mafia Old World game was coming. Torn between recommending or not because I'm glad I played this it made me realize not to buy the new game but also this game is a bug riddled nightmare in 2025. All jokes aside it really doesn't feel worth it to deal with these bugs to play a pretty mid game. Mafia 1 and 2 were much better and even then they weren't the greatest games either.

As bad as Hangar 13 tried to screw this game up, it's still a fun game story/narrative driven game to play.
