Its a strong Meh, long and repetitive beyond all measure but it occasionally shows what the series is capable of. I'm just going to say it the combat is a huge step down from Odyssey its over simplified and way too easy. I have no idea where they are going with the story now and I've basically checked out since Origins. It does what Ubi is best at and the world is breathtaking truly and the amount of settlements to explore surprised me even after years of playing Ubi's other games. Story wise its okay and Eivor is a cool character for the most part albeit rather boring. Honestly I would skip even if your a fan of the series its just a bunch of bloat but if you want a game to try to hold your interest for more than a hundred hours this would be it.

"In this new world, fate is not given... it is taken." With Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed continues its transformation from stealth-action to full-blown open-world RPG. Trading Mediterranean sun for Scandinavian frost and English mud, the game immerses you in the Viking era — a brutal, beautiful, and surprisingly introspective chapter in the franchise’s saga. You play as Eivor, a fierce Viking raider (playable as male or female) leading their Raven Clan from war-torn Norway to the bountiful, politically fractured kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon England. Eivor isn’t just a warrior — they’re a leader, dreamer, and reluctant participant in a grander destiny tied to the mysterious Isu and the ongoing Assassin-Templar conflict. Valhalla’s narrative spans dozens of alliances, battles, and mythological revelations. While the Assassin presence feels less central than in older titles, the Hidden Ones (Assassins) are still present, and Eivor’s journey increasingly intertwines with their cause. The writing hits strongest when it focuses on Eivor's internal struggle — between honor and ambition, loyalty and independence, fate and free will. The branching dialogue and choices offer moments of true role-playing, even if they don’t always change the outcome dramatically. The modern-day story continues with Layla Hassan, tying the trilogy (Origins-Odyssey-Valhalla) together with high-concept sci-fi revelations that longtime fans will appreciate — even if they’re occasionally a bit opaque. Valhalla fully embraces its RPG identity, offering expansive systems for gear, abilities, and character development. Combat is visceral and satisfying — heavy swings, shield parries, and brutal finishers give every fight weight. You can dual-wield any two weapons (including two shields, if you're feeling bold), and each has a unique rhythm. Gone is level-gating, replaced with a Power system, allowing more flexible exploration. The massive skill tree can feel overwhelming at first, but it encourages customization of your playstyle — stealthy hunter, brute warrior, or hybrid trickster. Raids are a core part of gameplay — you lead your crew into monasteries and enemy settlements to gather resources for Ravensthorpe, your customizable home base. Upgrading your village unlocks new gameplay opportunities, side stories, and relationship arcs. It’s one of the most satisfying and personal elements in the game. Stealth has improved over Odyssey, with social blending, hidden blade assassinations, and recon returning. It’s not quite classic AC stealth, but it’s a welcome return for players who missed it. Valhalla is gorgeous and atmospheric. From the snow-draped fjords of Norway to the rolling green hills of Mercia and the eerie mists of mythological realms like Asgard and Jotunheim, the world is vast, diverse, and teeming with life. The attention to detail is stunning — longhouses, stone churches, Roman ruins, and foggy forests are all painstakingly rendered. The cinematic lighting, changing weather, and haunting skies make exploration a joy. The soundtrack, composed by Jesper Kyd, Sarah Schachner, and Einar Selvik, blends epic Norse instrumentation with solemn, ambient themes. It perfectly captures the melancholic grandeur of Viking life. Voice acting is also strong, with Eivor (particularly the female version, voiced by Cecilie Stenspil) delivering a layered, commanding performance. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a bold, confident fusion of myth and history, RPG systems and Assassin legacy. While its massive scale occasionally spreads itself thin — and the main story can meander due to its segmented structure — the sheer breadth of content, emotional depth, and atmospheric world-building make it a standout. It's not a return to stealth roots, but it’s a saga worthy of the series’ evolution — one that carves a new legacy in blood, snow, and song. Recommended For: Fans of Viking lore, open-world exploration, and RPG mechanics with rich historical flavor. Avoid If: You’re craving traditional stealth-focused AC gameplay or are overwhelmed by massive open worlds. Valhalla asks you to conquer, to lead, to reflect — and above all, to choose your destiny. In the end, it’s not just about becoming a Viking legend. It’s about what kind of legend you want to be. Rating: 7/10

I’ve spent 228 hours in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and unlocked every single achievement—and I can honestly say it’s been an epic journey. Compared to the older AC titles, this one leans heavily into RPG mechanics with gear upgrades, choices that affect the story, and a massive open world to explore. It’s definitely a shift from the classic stealth-focused gameplay, but the change works well. It’s refreshing to see the series evolve, and Valhalla delivers a deep, immersive experience that’s worth every minute.

Valhalla nails the Viking experience with epic raids, exploration, and a deep story. The combat is intense, and building your settlement adds a nice RPG touch. The world is huge and full of things to do, though some missions repeat. Overall, a solid and immersive adventure for fans of history and action.

I hadn't played an Assassin's Creed game since 4: Black Flag because I generally didn't like the franchise. However, this game enticed me enough to check it out. I got it on a steep discount, 3 years after release, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed myself. If you like viking lore, this game is a must.

Every AC is more or less the same. I do however think that this does not have to be a problem - if you know what you're in for. Still this one's a tad too long to justify itself. After like 50h (!) I just wanted to be done with it. Cut it to half the length and we're golden, it's got a good setting with intriguing characters! I can't really recommend this to anyone who likes finishing games.

- Empty Open World, no engaging side activities or at least grindable forts and outposts anymore - Frequent crashes - lots of texture bugs and flickering - boring story - endless talk to X, go to Y, go back to X, now talk to Y again quests with boring dialogue - the loot system it way worse than odyssey or origins in my opinion, you just stick to your equip almost the whole game. Its kinda personal preference I guess but I dont really like it

Unable to turn off anti-aliasing, like I can on almost any other game, sealed the deal for me (and by deal I mean refund.) I came from Origins and Odyssey, where I really enjoyed playing as a female assassin. But in this game they literally pasted a female model over clunky male movements and mannerisms, nothing like Kassandra's feminine yet sophisticated and deadly vibe. This game felt lazily slapped together, poorly made. Animations are sluggish and janky, the transitions between things like the V scan or Odin's view is super long. Felt nothing like the mechanics and speed I am used to from Origins and Odyssey. It's such a shame, you don't feel like an assassin at all. I hope they didn't continue down this path with Mirage and Shadows.....

Massive fan of AC both old and new but this one is bloated beyond belief. I enjoyed a lot of it but as a completionist, the side content is unbearable in this one. First time I've ever wanted LESS game. Eivor is a likeable character in my opinion but the story was generic and predictable. Completing in out of sunken cost fallacy Could have skipped this game and not missed anything Plus side is the environmental design is incredible. Some truly breathtaking landscapes

It was relatively fun for like the first 20-30 hours and just gets more and more boring as it goes on. It's literally the same formula recycled for every region. You just want the main story to be over with and the whole thing is just 20 long side quests stitched together and you can't skip any of them. Absolute slog

Worth it on sale. I think this game is not truly an Assassins Creed Game. Think of it as a Viking Game with Stealth Mechanics involved. AC Valhalla is best summed up as okay. I think if you buy it you'll see that it's not bad in regards to the story. It is repetitive though, and I mean that it's just how the quest structure is that makes it so damn repetitive. But I have to admit that I do like this game. For what it's worth if your looking for a decent story (not that it's comparable to many other single player games in a quality sense) BUT if you want a Viking game; with a Viking story, then it's the best one on steam to date. I think this game has many underrated strengths. Namely a few of the characters and some slight story developments. I find Eivor to be interesting as a character. But, all the same you make Eivor through the semi-linear choices in the game. I rate this game a strong 7/10 I think it'd be insulting to put it lower, and yet too generous to place it higher.

What a viking Saga. Forget about being an Assassin. Just swing your axe, raid some village, solve political dispute, command a Siege on Castles, well you will done your Saga. I don't know how many people write this whole game, it's very long talking. Mostly not necessary to follow the story at all. Very boring Narrative. Game was twice bigger and bloated then Odyssey but always have something going on. I skipped 3 DLCs, because i had enough fun as Vikingr. Game have some great moments to hang on to the main plot. Towards the end was overwhelming because all threw towards player together. But still good. My experience like 7.5/10 because same repetitive RPG from Origins and Odyssey. Good Game.

So far, I have enjoyed playing this game. With nearly 100 hours of playtime on my end, I still have most of the story and plenty of additional content to play through, even without the DLC. It plays much like the previous games with a slight change to combat. You are less likely to be sneaky in this game, but that plays to the characters background. The village aspect is nice, if not a bit on the basic side, and gives you ways to improve your character beyond the skill web. My only true gripe is that you need Ubisofts portal (or whatever they call it) to connect to the game. You can't play without it. It has been the single biggest cause of all the problems I've had with this game. If it doesn't load properly, the game doesn't work. If it can't connect, you can't play. If it's experiencing a surge in activity, your game lags. No internet connection, you can't play. Never mind that I have the game installed on my computer. Without Ubisoft this game would be a solid 8/10, with them its more like a 5.

Really fun, my first installment in the Assassin's Creed series. One thing to note, which isn't a con in my opinion, is that this really isn't an "assassination" game. Is there stealth? Yes. Do you have a bad-arse wristblade you can gank unsuspecting guards with? Yes. But can you just run in waving your axe and shield and still survive? Yes. Stealth is a useful tool in this game, but the game is not built around it. This is not Hitman. Keep that in mind while playing. Still really fun in my opinion though.

I will give this game a Yes. I haven't finished it yet, but I just want to go over one quick thing: Game Ratings; As an AC Game, this is a 2/10, it's really not AC Oriented, with only a few pull out of the simulation, with some world quest/events having you change to the Animus user for jumping puzzle type things for data caches. Honestly, I love this, and I wish there actually was a "turn off AC" Setting, because as a Viking Adventure RPG, this is a 10/10, and I actually get upset whenever I'm pulled away from Eivor's story to go see real world stuff. I have already played this over 200 hrs and will continue to play. Originally, Black Flag was my favourite AC before, but Valhalla has taken it over. Personally, I haven't been into AC's story since the end of 3, and am more playing for the time settings and story inside the Animus, not outside. Valhalla will forever be one of my favourite games

The game is vast and there are many things to explore. The side-quests (mysteries) are good and interesting. The main story-line till now has been engaging. I like the ability to chose the dialogue lines, although the storyline remains same but the relation between Eivor and the character changes quite a bit. The parkour is also good, like in most AC Games. The Graphics in the game awesome. Reda's Contracts as in AC Origins, is still a bit repetitive but better than Origins. Finally I would say this is one of the must play AC games and it is still playable in 2025.

The ending to this game left me genuinely speechless. I like the franchise and I concede the faults that the open world rpg trilogy have but generally enjoy them in spite of those. The ending to Valhalla is almost insulting. No send off, no big event, the games meandering and seemingly aimless story just comes to a miserable, dribbling close. The game itself feels as though it starts, nothing really happens for 60 hours and then it's suddenly over without you realising. There is no point to any of your actions. This is the video game equivalent of a lobotomy. Only buy this if it's on sale and even then, I highly recommend looking at alternative methods of acquisition.

I've played through most of the AC games now, including the earlier Ezio trilogy. Although those games have a certain quality that is missing here, particularly in the form of stealth, I really enjoyed being a Viking warrior and chopping up Saxons. Ubisoft does their research, and it shows in a game like this. Valhalla is massive, and I haven't even scratched the surface in terms of the collectibles and mysteries. The alliance map got to be a little repetitive towards the end, and some of the enemies felt overly difficult even when fully leveled up. I got so frustrated fighting Draugr Hemming at one point that I started shouting and pounding my computer desk. I would have liked to see fewer boss battles and more tactical and stealth missions. That said, it's still an awesome game with a ton of great content.

A great game. Large varied maps, with lots of things to do that rarely feel like a chore or grind. Sweeping story. Complicated levelling up that can be auto-assigned. Lots of power ups like explosives, poisons, jumping attacks and pyrotechnics. Synin, your Raven, provides an interesting aerial view capability (Synin, be my eyes) that adds to the functionality and the atmosphere of the game. Combat can be a bit annoying. Controls can be a bit sus as things like spacebar is jump, except when it isn't, and you plummet like a stone to the ground. Some great humour. Strong characterization. The one DLC I have tried (Siege of Paris) offers a lot of extra content, new mechanics, and still a serious challenge. All in all, an epic game, not without faults, but easily worth putting up with them. If it is on sale with all DLC, it is almost certainly a bargain worth snapping up, regardless of the price.

Beyond expectations, this game is much more serious, tense, and emotional. The combination of the previous series is made into one here. With a medieval theme where the Vikings invaded various countries, one of which is the land of England. Viking-style battles by being able to loot a village or fortress owned by the enemy. Also establishing relationships with local people and choosing choices that will affect the future.

While I don't think this game is perfect, I think that its worthy of praise. Do i think all of the different elements jive? no. Do i think this game is worth your time? absolutely. If you're an AC fan, i think its worth your time. If you're not, I would probably rec AC1, AC3, or AC Origins if you're looking for a chapter to start at. This is definitely not it. But if you're going to be jumping into this franchise for the first time. If you're a long time fan, I think you def need to buy this game.
