great game, ruined it with the ubisoft connect log in crap. 3rd party launchers shouldn't be allowed on steam.

I will never buy and play an original Ubisoft game again. I tried to open this game for an hour but unfortunately I couldn't open it. I will play pirated Ubisoft games because they wanted it. There is no problem when playing pirated games but when playing the original games you have to open a ton of accounts etc.

Far Cry Primal is an interesting game because it applies the open world gameplay loop of what is an FPS franchise, strips the guns, and gives you caveman weaponry. The game definitely reminds you of the prehistoric setting, between the wildlife consisting of now-extinct animals like the sabretooth tiger and wooly mammoth, to the weapons being made of sticks and stones, from the way the characters dress, and even the way they speak. On that last note, they actually constructed a language for use in this game, and has about 40,000 words. I had a lot of fun with this game, although it took some time for it to really click with me. The lack of guns was very much a turn-off initially, since I just wanted to go ham. However, I grew an appreciation for using the bow and spears, as there is a lot of satisfaction to be had when those hit in one kill. And you still have plenty of tools at your disposal. You'd be able to use an owl to direct a beast to kill some people, drop a berserk bomb on a heavy to make him attack his allies, and dive bomb into another person, followed by a jump takedown on an enemy and chaining the takedowns on at least 2 more people and capping off with a shard throw. Fun stuff. The plot is... present. It's not bad, but it's no FC3. There's also not a whole lot of weapons to choose from. The clubs become very pointless very quickly, mostly because the spear is a lot better of a weapon in my opinion (yes, pun intended). Additionally, the early game can be annoying as it feels like everything is out to kill you. Depending on your thoughts on asset reuse, this game also reuses half of FC4's map. Overall, I would recommend this game if you like fast paced FPS games but are okay without the guns. If you like Far Cry, you'll probably like this one too.

Very good game. There are so many ways to play the game. Lots of missions and so much stuff to do that it's almost overwhelming. My only gripe about it is not the game itself but Ubisoft. In order to play Primal or any Far Cry game you have to install the Ubisoft app which is complete garbage

after being logged into my ubisoft account almost all the time and when I went to log in today to play far cry primal I was no longer logged in, it says my email and password are not good, I reset the password, I don't receive anything even on my phone number, I try that code several times, it says my account is temporarily suspended, it's stupid what they did with ubishi and their policy, it's stupid when I buy their game on steam and they force me to install their application, from what I understand, if you don't log into your ubishit account for a while, it suspends your account, stupid, what if they decide, they take it, good luck with ubishit.

I personally love Primal because it's unique in contrast to other FC games, having beaten it only once in the past (like 5-6 years ago not on steam) and always wishing to repeat that experience, playing in 2025 and I can say game holds pretty well. Map and atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous and you really feel like you're in 10k BC. Characters are awesome and well done, love the language and also animals. In the wild anything can one shot you basically on higher difficulty so you always have to be on your toes and watch your surroundings. Oh and music, also, very good! 👍 Easy 10/10

I have not ever played any farcry games and started with this one. It was fun, i think my down sides to this were that i had to grind a lot to have adequate weapons. I also was hoping for more quests lines than fetch this or fetch that and go kill this guy to fetch that thing. Overall I enjoyed it.

This is my favorite Far cry BY A MILE. Its got enough options for difficulty settings to be more casual and mythical, or more serious and challenging. I just loved the game. I dont replay first person shooters very often but I did a number of play through with this one. Just such a cool setting. Being tied to the Ubisoft thing is kinda annoying but whatever. I used a texture pack that made the game VIBRANT. Its just gorgeous.

So far I cant play the game on steamdeck cause of ubisoft third party shizz. AC Shadows worked fine a month ago but now it takes forever to load to ubisoft connect. Literally 10 mins just to get to the main menu. i tried installing ubisoftconnectinstaller but it wont let me cause it says something about not being able to download.. Its sad cause ubisoft was great years ago but now everything is a terrible experience lately. Now i got to refund this game.

I enjoyed being able to play a Far Cry game without all the RPGs, Helicopters, cars, and all that. Was a really good story too! doesnt make you feel weak at all, I actually enjoyed doing all the hunting, gathering and all the simple stuff. The boss fights are...okay? 1 of them is extremely difficult, so it kinda put me off towards the end of the game.

This is a new take on the Far Cry franchise. As some would put it; a spin-off. It's a survival game, no guns, only bows, spears and clubs. The combat system is bare-bones (pun intended). It would seem that the game was geared towards people that love survival games, in this game you are constantly scavenging for resources to build your base and craft better gear. Add people to your tribe and grow your little base camp. The game uses the DUNIA engine, which was also used in Far Cry 2, the fire effects are realistic enough and overall graphics quality is decent but you can definitely see the game is an older game if you would compare it to recent game titles with great graphics in 2025. In this game you are a Beast master and you use bait and stealth to tame animals like; wolves, bears, saber tooth tigers etc. As you progress you can ride beasts too. There are colder regions in the game which require you to craft winter clothing, so again, it's a survival game at its roots. It can be fun but it can also feel repetitive. I would rate this game a 7/10, the combat for me has lowered the rating. For me Far Cry games are mainly about the combat, exploration and gear. It is still a good game, just not for everyone. If you like survival, crafting weapons and better gear, upgrading your settlement, taming beasts to fight with you. Then this is a worthwhile game to play. If you prefer Far Cry games with guns and explosions then this game will be a little disappointing.

Dont think I've ever left a review, this was the worst experience a person could have trying to start a game. The game itself wont even open without closing and presenting me with zero information on why. And after multiple hour long sessions of trying to figure out what the fuck is wrong, every "solution" does not work and just shows how shitty ubisoft is. All I can say is DO NOT BUY THIS unless you know it will work. Got it on sale awhile ago with the other farcry games and decided I wanted to play it, and I dont have access to the ubisoft account that was presumably linked to my steam account and I cant link a new one to it, nor can I unlink the old one from steam, for some reason so I guess its just fuck me, and fuck ubisoft.

Far Cry Primal is a fun spin-off for the Far Cry franchise that encompasses what a good spin-off should be. The series DNA is here, but the gameplay and style is widely different to any other game in the series. Also, I highly recommend playing this game on Survival Mode if you're willing. It really makes it feel like more of a hardcore survival experience. My major complaints are that the melle combat is really unfair at times and feels bare bones, and the collecting mechanics can be asinine at times. Also the main story is just kind of okay. A fun time. Better than FC4? Nope, but it doesn't need to be. 8/10

I didn't know this game was so good, I just assumed it wouldn't be as good as the others in the series for some reason. While it may not be as good as 3, it for SURE was better than 5 or New Dawn, and even at it's current age it still looks fantastic. I had to turn some settings down a bit for the deck to run 30-50fps, but cranked up on PC is beautiful.

We: Ooga chakka. 8/10 for immersion, 8/10 for the gameplay, 10/10 for paints pissingly beautiful graphics on a 3 year old gaming laptop able to run this easily on Very High - Ultra at over 70 FPS. Fuck the third party launcher shit but besides that, this is great! Grab it on sale. Throw spear. Very happy.

This game is basically caveman power fantasy then mix in the fra cry formula , What you are left with is a great game also a few other things that i liked are , you are free to choose how to progress your story also how you can tackle enemy outposts and bonfires if you want to go in stealthy or guns blazing (in this context spears and clubs) , else ride a mammoth and become a prehistoric killing machine

Far Cry Primal review I give this thumbs up because it is not a bad game - however, very few games come across being this much of a publisher driven product. Like they decided they wanted a prehistorical Far Cry without really thinking it through to the end. Some of the content here works, much of it is average and some of it bad. Weapons are very weak or enemies too much bullet sponge, don't know which. I also feel that combat and sneaking both are way, WAY underwhelming and badly designed. But it is a pretty looking game with some nice features... it's far from being trash. Some will find their money's worth here... but I have to say, this is probably my least favorite Far Cry. I'll give it 7/10.

FarCry with cavemen who have the demographics of downtown London or (one suspects) Toronto. Eh. It's fun, if a little goofy. Low grade tribal warfare that for once doesn't feel quite as over the top as the other games. If anything, based on certain historical accounts, the violence might be a touch understated... It's fun, what more do you need?

Uplay or UConnect or whatever such nonsense Ubisoft is calling its launcher these days is complete ass. Anyway, I played Far Cry Primal years ago. Probably in 2016, on Xbox or Playstation or some other such console. I figured I'd play it again since it was in my Steam library, with the intention of trying to occupy myself while waiting for something to catch my eye during the Steam Summer Sale. Alas, the gameplay loop here gets a bit stale kind've quickly. There's not much story either. Still, I have the fond memories and while it might not be a go-to here in 2025 it is still a fun title.

If you want a game to own then this is not it. I've lost many games to ubisoft because they destroy their games after they are done supporting them. If the company goes down and sells their games or closes them out then this game will follow meaning you will lose access to playing it. I would recommend getting a free copy some how instead of purchasing it yourself.

Far Cry Primal is easily one of, if not the most slept-on game in the series- and i cannot fathom why. This game is absolute cinema, start to finish. From the story and characters, to the hunting, to the environment within the land of Oros, Primal simply makes you embody the life of a caveman named Takkar back in 10.000 BCE, and boy does it feel amazing. Every mission, encounter, or outpost makes you feel badass, and quite frankly taps right into the game's namesake: it makes you feel PRIMAL. If youre a fan of the other games in the Far Cry series, or even if not- give Far Cry Primal a shot. All in all, fantastic game right here. 10/10

This game is a very good game what I like and dislike about this game is that the game has very good graphics for the time is was made. The game plays very well and has no glitches that i have found over the time I have played it. The game is hard at times but that makes the game more fun in my opinion. Things I don't like about the game is that the animals are sometimes very hard to kill and they will come up to you and kill you while you are trying to do a main story quest or a side quest. Another thing that I disliked was how they spoke a different language I know that it makes the game feel accurate to the older times of human history but for kids that are trying the game out and can barely read this could make it harder for them to figure out what to do but that's all I got to say about the game.

9/10 – "Ooga Booga Skyrim with less pants" Thought I was playing Far Cry, ended up grunting at people, taming an owl with night vision, and yeeting flaming spears at dudes named “Udam.” Accidentally threw a beehive, caused a tribal war. Lit myself on fire 37 times. Rode a sabertooth like it was Uber Mammoth. My owl airstrikes harder than a CoD killstreak. No guns. Just rocks, vibes, and primal rage. Would grunt again. 🗿🔥🦴 WENJA STRONK.

I love the game. probably my 2nd most favourite of far cry series. I finished permadeath, it was great but I dont recommend the game because the game has many issues NOW New Ubisoft cluelessly broke the game after they added achievements and updated new survivor/permadeath mode. - Slow Motion I had slow motion issues, max 60 fps. I turned off the v-sync, I still had slowmotion in some cutscenes. - New Ubisoft force you to be online to play an offline game you must have connection to play this offline game. what a joke this ubish*t connect There are many more issues in the Dicussion: Player Support all these so called devs won't fix anything. they just ask the same thing about pc specs, gpu drivers, refresh rate and redirect you into ubish*t website without any solution.

“Before guns, before empires — survival was personal.” Far Cry® Primal is the boldest detour in the series to date, dropping players into the Stone Age — long before radio towers, flamethrowers, or psychotic warlords. Set in 10,000 BCE, it trades high-tech tools for spears and sabertooths, delivering a primitive but surprisingly rich survival adventure that thrives on atmosphere and innovation. You are Takkar, a hunter from the Wenja tribe who rises from lone wanderer to leader in the harsh land of Oros. As you gather allies, tame beasts, and wage war against rival tribes (the savage Udam and fire-worshiping Izila), your journey becomes one of survival, unity, and legacy. The narrative is simple but effective, driven more by world-building than deep character arcs. Every line of dialogue is spoken in a constructed prehistoric language, which adds authenticity but creates a bit of narrative distance at times. The real story here is about how you shape the world and lead your people — not just what happens in cutscenes. Far Cry Primal completely reinvents the series’ formula while staying true to its sandbox roots: Melee-Driven Combat: Spears, clubs, and bows replace firearms, and combat becomes intimate, brutal, and risky. Taming Beasts: Takkar can tame animals — from wolves to sabertooth tigers and cave bears — and command them in battle. It’s one of the game’s most enjoyable and strategic features. Crafting-Focused Progression: Every weapon, pouch, and upgrade must be crafted using resources found in the wild — promoting exploration and immersion. Tribe Building: Recruit specialists, upgrade your village, and unlock new abilities and gear by expanding your influence. Stealth plays a huge role, with nighttime hunts and predator-dodging requiring smart thinking and sharp senses. However, some of the missions can feel repetitive, especially over time, due to limited enemy variety and objective types. Oros is stunning — a lush, untamed land of forests, frozen peaks, and sun-drenched valleys. It feels alive, with dynamic weather, day-night cycles, and a food chain that plays out in real time. The sound design is superb — ambient wildlife, tribal chants, crackling fires — all backed by a primal score of drums, flutes, and throat-singing that creates a hypnotic tone. Without modern music or spoken languages, the game still conveys emotion and danger beautifully. Far Cry® Primal is a bold experiment that mostly works. It’s slower-paced, more immersive, and deeply atmospheric — a survivalist’s dream wrapped in Far Cry DNA. While it lacks the bombast and narrative punch of entries like Far Cry 3 or 4, it replaces that with a unique setting, memorable mechanics, and a refreshing focus on raw survival. It may not be for everyone, but those who embrace its rhythm will find a rich, rewarding experience far from the modern chaos of the rest of the series. Recommended For: Fans of survival games, players looking for something unique in the FPS genre, and anyone fascinated by prehistory. Avoid If: You prefer fast-paced gunplay, complex storytelling, or modern tech-based gameplay. Far Cry Primal is a beautifully brutal journey back to the beginning — a creative risk that pays off more often than not. Rating: 9/10

Graphics and sound - acceptably good for 2016 to feel the atmosphere of a game about the Mesolithic/Upper Paleolithic. Although it is very violent and there are dismembered corpses, no NPC can be beheaded or dismembered. There is no rain in Oros. NPCs can sing, have sex, eat, defecate, sleep, talk, patrol, fight, hunt, but mostly mimicking (without detailed animation). So, yeah, the graphics engine is a bit old. Map - spectacular, diverse, but copied from the one in Far Cry 4 The story is captivating and the characters are interesting, but there seems to be no character development. As with any Far Cry, the antagonists and even the friends of protagonist do not appear much to care about them. Gameplay & combat- it gets boring when you end up taming lions, tigers, hyenas, wolves and bears in the same way, throwing a piece of meat, or when you have to conquer 15 settlements and 15 camps where you have to infiltrate and kill each enemy secretly, send a wolf or a lion to bite them, or rush in like Conan the Barbarian with a club. Interestingly, you always fight alone and there is no mechanism to bring more Wenja from the tribe to fight alongside me against the Udam or Izila tribes. It would have been spectacular to see tribal battles on a large scale, especially since I am forced to build a tribal settlement with 100-300 inhabitants. The weapons are interesting - clubs, bows with arrows, stones, traps, spears, fire bombs, bees and poisons.Although it doesn't make any sense, the owl used for reconnaissance and air attacks adds to the fun. I like to see the Sapiens Izila painted in blue, living in southern tropical environment fighting with fire bombs and venerate the Sun, the canibalistic Udam Neanderthals painted in red, fighting with clubs and berseker bombs, living in ice mountains from the north of Oros and venerate the Venus statue, or the Cro-Magnon Wenja painted in white, living in temperate environment and venerate some owl-wolf totem, each faction having its own fighting style, which makes me wonder - why wasn't there a multiplayer mode instead of hundreds of useless side quests? Accuracy - for 10,000 BC, at least in terms of Cro-Magnon survival, hunting, fighting and shelter techniques, the game looks good. But don't expect it to be an interactive encyclopedia about Prehistory. It has nothing to do with reality - Neanderthals aka Udam disappeared by 30,000 BC, mammoths in Europe were extinct by 21,000 BC, saber-toothed cats didn't exist in Europe, but in America, the cave bear was extinct by 24,000 BC, woolly rhinos the same, not to mention hyenas and crocodiles that are from Africa. And also, the game being set in a fictional place like any game (Oros), you can hardly tell if it is located in the Carpathians or in Italy because of the two Tre Cime di Lavaredo mountains or France because of the specific Lascaux cave paintings. Despite the year, the game include animals and weapons that exist 20.000 - 50.000 years ago. For someone unfamiliar with prehistory, the game can be a simplified introduction that can help give you an idea of what mammoths, saber-toothed cats, cave bears looked like, how Cro-Magnons or Neanderthals lived. It's nice to see people around a campfire while warming and eating, dancing, telling stories, sleeping or playing the flute and drums, surrounded by tools specific to the Magdalienian, Azilian, Clovis, Aurgnacian and Gravettian cultures. However, be careful, the game is not for children as it is violent and about 90% of the content is fake/invented. It's also not the best story offered by Ubisoft, but certainly much better than in the case of Far Cry 5, Far Cry 6 or Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. 7/10

At the time of writing I have 23 hours, I have probably 100 or more on the Xbox, this game is fantastic. It's personally my favorite Far Cry game. The combat is great, the survival mode is great, the story and content is fantastic. It could use more content, it's all quite short and there isn't much story content. What it does have is great gameplay and it's a treat to play over again.
