The game is unplayable at time of review, it launches but never actually brings up the menu.

The Campaign was so awful, boring, buggy, unpolished and genuinely unfun; it made me retroactively like the Halo franchise as a whole less.
It takes real talent to despoil such a legacy, ..so my hats off to you I guess.

Was excited to play the game again because of the Halo 3 update- got the 'black rectangle of death' at startup after waiting ten minutes for the god damn game to load. Had to go into my registry and delete a bunch of credentials, FINALLY starts up. Try to join a game with friends, the UI crashes and I get kicked from the lobby, game freezes.
Bungie figured this shit out 20+ years ago in 2004 with Halo 2. Joining a game was seamless even with my garbage early 2000s Comcast internet- I have symmetrical gigabit now. How does a multi billion dollar company fuck up so bad that you can't even join a multiplayer game???
I finally got into a match after a HALF HOUR of troubleshooting, and I forgot how much this game is just mediocre. It seems like everything about it has some dumb corporate decision to drive monetization. "Oh we gotta put annoying Dad rock in the menus because it does better with the focus groups than the classic iconic Halo music." It's a little bit better after launch but just feels like a pale imitation of what these games used to be.
I've been playing Halo 1 since the Xbox days in 2001. I went to the Halo 2 midnight launch and got the collectors edition. I still have my 'Legendary Helmet' from Halo 3. I placed Onyx in competitive when Infinite first launched because I was so excited- but this game just isn't it. These games used to have a heart and soul, but Infinite is just corporate slop now. It's a shame.

MS goes out of its way to make this a frustrating experience to even boot the game and login. Don't have a MS account? can't login. Have one and try to login? can't login.

They have ruined halo. i am in awe how is it possible to fuck this all up? Can't even sign in to play the game. When you switch between multiplayer and campaign it relaunches the whole game and nukes your CPU.

I'd give it a mixed rating, I only play for SWAT (Tactical Slayer). The campaign is incredibly mediocre, buy on sale. The armor customization is also pretty decent.

trying to force myself to love this game but hit detection feels like its completely random. ill empty a full clip into someone whos shields are down and do no damage and somehow die in one shot at full health and shield. people melee me to death when im above them and theyre not even facing me at all. maybe if you have slow ass internet like everybody else who plays this is for you.

It is a glitchy fucking mess. I've been a longterm halo fan, basically forever. I gave this a shot despite the bad reviews because nostalgia or whatever. Ive lost 30 minutes of progress purely because suddenly, no reason, no prompt, I cant save Spartan Griffin. It would be whatever but I did every side objective between that spartan and now, and suddenly, its all reset? No, salty. You dont get to make a shitty open world halo game and then get to reset all the progress, shouldve had all your points saved between now and then, at least after every side objective. Now? Fuck you, I see why everyone said it was a garbage tier game. I tried, and sure ill finish it, but I see exactly what they mean.

Unable to log in. There is a black screen where the Xbox login should be, which makes this game currently unplayable. This is a critical bug that should have been caught immediately and is still not fixed after a month it seems.

So far, so good! I also LOVE all the Halo games. So much that I named my male cats Halo and Master Chief! LOL
In other news, this game is fun. I like the grapple. It adds an element to the game that I really enjoy.

Everything was going fine until recently. I haven't been able to play because the game gets to the main menu and then freezes. I tried submitting a ticket to their support page but their website won't let me log in. I would like to play the campaign again with my siblings, now I can't. I can't even get past the start screen. Can you please fix it?
Of which, my first big issue with the game is its multiplayer. I don't how they keep sending updates to it, taking up space on my PC, but then not letting me play any of it until I purchase with real money their stupid multiplayer passes. Stop taking up my PC's storage! Or at least let me play the stupid content you added for free. Especially since I bought the campaign for frikin $60. Seriously, I wish you had just made the campaign it's own frickin product so I don't have to deal all the multiplayer BS you got going on.

When I first started playing Infinite, I thought "This is amazing! How can anyone hate this?" Even now, I think the grapple hook is a fantastic addition. It's one of the most inventive tools the series has ever introduced. It adds verticality, speed, and sandbox creativity that feels natural yet refreshing. I genuinely hope it becomes a series staple. The campaign, too, is pretty good. While it lacks the bombastic set pieces that older Halo titles delivered in spades, what’s there is serviceable and, at times, feels like a worthy evolution of Halo. I also have to give credit to the writers for doing their best to pick up the pieces left by Halo 5, and to the actors who brought a surprising sense of warmth and humanity to the story.
But that's where my praise ends.
Multiplayer, in my opinion, is a disappointment. It took some time and a full round of achievement hunting to admit it, but I just don’t enjoy it. It’s not just that it’s balanced differently than the campaign, it’s also bloated. There’s an overwhelming number of systems, loadouts, and inputs. Halo used to thrive on simplicity and clarity. Now, it feels like I need a manual just to remember what each button does. Coming off of Halo 5, I thought Infinite would be a refinement. Instead, it feels like a step further into overcomplication. As a result, the battle passes and cosmetics feel less like incentive and more like clutter.
The campaign’s structure is another head-scratcher. Replaying missions is a chore, with awkward systems and limited flexibility. There’s little environmental variety, which makes the open-world segments blur together. And bafflingly, there’s no way to restart from checkpoints, a basic feature that’s been a standard in the series for years.
And then there's the LOADING.
Holy crap, the loading screens. From boot-up to switching to the campaign/multiplayer, to dying in-game... it’s alarming how many times you spend looking at a loading screen. I still don’t know what it’s doing behind the scenes. Precompiling shaders? Streaming assets? But it’s some of the worst loading I’ve experienced from a modern AAA title. The constant interruptions (and occasional crashes *in the middle of loading*) crush the pacing and remind you over and over that the game just isn’t as seamless as it should be. Honestly, they might as well have called it Halo: Infinite Loading Screens.
I want to like Halo Infinite more than I do. I see potential in its mechanics and flashes of brilliance in its design. But it feels like a title caught between trying to honor its legacy and chasing modern trends, failing to commit fully to either.

loved the campaign, came back for the battle of the acadamy part 2, thought id check it out
why is it a mod? you cant convince me it isnt a cash-grab battle pass, good cosmetics hidden behind paywall riddled mod made official, characters use campaign voicelines, the mode is clearly just reusing capture the flag, maps are poorly designed, even worst then a bad mod map would be, enemy placement or horrific making only 1 way to play the map(s), characters constantly use the same bloody voicelines about the banished capturing something, half the characters use the sentance above character because they dont have unique voicelines. CHARACTERS, USE SENTANCES ABOVE THEIR HEAD BECAUSE THEY DONT, D O N T HAVE THEIR OWN UNIQUE VOICELINES, THIS IS LESS THEN PATHETIC, i feel scammed, even my enjoyment of the campaign cant make me feel scammed, i want my time and my money back, might just deleat the game from my library, ashamed to have this thing on my library

DO NOT BUY THE CAMPAIGN IN 2025. IT WILL NOT LET YOU LOG IN AND EVEN GET TO THE MAIN MENU. i have 27 hours in this game pre 2025 and they were mediocre at best. do not spend money on this, steam will not refund the campaign dlc (trust me ive tried) and you cant even play the normal multiplayer. its a empty shell of what halo used to be, and its not worth a second of your time or a cent of your money.

The cost for armor just keeps getting more expensive, gone are the days where it meant something to have Hayabusa or other armors, now it just means you used dad's credit card. The fact that the Hayabusa helmet alone costs over $20 was enough for me walk away

Halo has had a very rough couple of years after the transfer of management but after this games release there was a constant pursuit of improvement from the content the games been lacking in it's earlier years. Overtime the game improved immeasurably and through time gamers have lost the patience to play during that road to what the game was striving to achieve. HOWEVER, the state of the game which Halo Infinite is right now is a nothing compared to what it used to be, the devs really clocked in the hours to reach that goal and met all expectations. My personal experience has had it's ups and downs but through every update Halo infinite became the game we all dedicated fans wanted it to be ya it wasn't the best at launch but now with everything this game offers it's really a good game to play the options for what game type you want are there the maps provided even if it was thought the community and made on forge are outstanding with attention to detail even the dev made maps I was amazed, weapon additions and equipment really furthered the game play and the single player had me on the edge of my seat even though we wanted more. So I say to the person/passionate fan who is reading this give this game a second chance if you are hesitant your expectations may be fulfilled halo infinite at it's core game play still has it after so many years and I am going to stick by it. See you on the battlefield Spartan.

Honestly as a huge Halo fan i love the franchise.
BUt this Game seriously has its highs and lows.
The lack of old viehcles from other games.
The lack of weapons
The campaign is a 7/10. Feels empty but when u get to a giant compound ITS Awesome
Also why isn't there a command button for marines? its been close to 25 years. A simple attack, Defend and follow command could make u feel like marines actually matter
Multiplayer is where this game really suffer
The casual mode from Halo 3 and reach. GONE
Its try hard mess
The constant lag stutter i get and only get this on this game(I7-14700k,32gb,@080ti then a rx9700xt and) and ive tried everything to fix it.
I have to pay for Basically Halo 1,2,3 armors.
If you wana customize your spartan play MCC
The movement is GREAT!!!!! and gun play is GOOD!! but WTF did they do to the Gravity hammer
Needless to say i was excited at first when this game came out and every update has helped it but everytime i come back to it Just for the game to smack me out of playing it AGAIN!
ALSO HEY you saw the trailer with the really cool or nostalgic armor. YEAH GIVE ME MONEY!!!!!!
Ive come back to this game multiple times through out its life span and unless u just wanna play another competitive shooter give it a whirl
They couldn't even add an actually fuel-rod to the game, Or the original shotgun, or Smgs or Plasma rifle or bruteshot....may i need to say more? They just brought back Ricochet snipers and yes we got Hayabusa...... BUT THE GRIND! ALSO fix the performance issues because clearly on PC im not the only one
I am complaining not because the game is bad but because previous games did it better!

Halo Infinite marks a stellar comeback for the iconic franchise, blending the classic Halo formula with modern gameplay innovations to deliver a thrilling, expansive shooter experience. From the moment you step into Master Chief’s boots, the game recaptures the magic that made the series a household name while pushing the saga forward in exciting ways.
The campaign is a standout, weaving a compelling story of mystery, loyalty, and survival against the backdrop of the fractured Halo ring, Zeta Halo. The narrative balances grand sci-fi spectacle with intimate moments, deepening the bond between Master Chief and the AI companion, “The Weapon.” The open-ended level design encourages exploration and tactical freedom, making each encounter feel fresh and dynamic.
Gameplay feels smooth and responsive, retaining the satisfying gunplay Halo is known for while introducing new tools like the versatile Grappleshot, which adds verticality and creativity to combat and traversal. Enemy AI is smart and challenging, keeping battles intense without feeling overwhelming.
Multiplayer returns to form with a robust suite of modes, classic maps, and a progression system that rewards skill and persistence. The free-to-play model makes it accessible, and constant updates ensure a lively, evolving community.
Visually, Halo Infinite strikes a balance between nostalgia and modernity, with beautiful, sprawling environments and detailed character models that run smoothly even on mid-range hardware.
If there’s a minor criticism, it’s that some side missions in the campaign can feel a bit repetitive, but overall, the pace and variety keep things engaging.
In summary: Halo Infinite is a brilliant blend of nostalgia and innovation, offering an unforgettable sci-fi shooter experience that honors the legacy of the franchise while boldly looking to the future. Whether you’re a veteran Spartan or a newcomer, this game delivers epic moments at every turn.

"I used to walk into a store and find a game. Now, I walk into a game and find a store."
I loved this game. I was a huge fan when it initially released. You literally couldn't pay me to say anything negative about this game. Why? Because it felt like the devs were really working to return halo to its roots. I don't need to get into all of the small details that gained my favor. I already know the community en-mass agrees.
However, the progression of micro-transactions has completely overshadowed any good this game brought to the franchise. The last straw- the Halo 3 gear recently added. I WAS SO UNBELIEVABLE EXCITED to unlock this gear. Halo 3 is my favorite game of all time and I couldn't wait to ride that nostalgia high. Just try to imagine my disappointment when I redownloaded and logged in. To my shock, every single piece of gear was locked behind a massive paywall. I will NOT spend 10 dollars for a piece of armor from 20 years ago. This wasn't done for one cosmetic. EVERY SINGLE ONE is locked behind a paywall. The worst part is the empty season pass, full of nothing but one armor set.
This new content could have been the thing that brought me back to Halo Infinite. I was hyped. I would have grinded out that pass to unlock all the cosmetics from my childhood, and the absolutely most unforgivable thing is that I would have paid money for any additional cosmetics or augmentations to this classic armor from Halo 3. 343,
Halo Industries, whatever you have decided to brand yourself as now, you've ruined the halo experience for a lot of long time fans, and you should be ashamed. If you loved halo, don't waste your time with this game, as a community we must take a stand on these horridly anti-consumer practices. Plug in your old 360/One, boot up the old games, invite friends over, order pizza, play the game it was meant to be played. Don't give this company your money or time anymore.

I have stuck in for halo for so long. but i cannot believe how dead it is now, and honestly the Devs really don't care. they may publicly say otherwise, but actions speak louder then words. the start up for the game is about 2x as long as it needs to be. the multiplayer ques are 3-4x longer then they should be. multiplayer game lists are completely flooded with too many games modes. the Seasons don't even show a little evidence at an attempt for caring for the players trying to keep this poor franchise alive. the art style of all the armors have completely lost their identity. it just feels like the Devs are being leashed to Corporate brain rot that have no idea what Halo is let alone what a massive online game should be. this game lacks all heart now and resembles that of what used to be a cash cow drain and beaten so poorly into the ground that is might as well be the cow patty once laid by the poor thing.

I've loved Halo since Halo 1. Halo 5 was a bust and this is too. The campaign is so lackluster and boring. I just don't care about the side character and there really isn't a story. The saddest part was when they introduced some nostalgic pieces. Just another poignant reminder of how far this franchise has fallen.

YES but only if you don't pay more than $20! I love Halo Infinite, and I HATE it. So much wasted potential. I never finished it. I shut it down during the Sequence "Easter eggs" hunt. I just got bored with it all.
PROS:
Maybe the best gun-handling and player movement responsiveness of any Halo game. It feels right.
The Mongoose isn't as silly "light" as it's been in other Halo titles. That's a "sort of" complement.
A lot of the Marine dialogue is really entertaining even if many time it's repeated too often.
The throwing and grappling are fun! Wish they would add a kicking option (Entropy Zero 2)
CONS:
Sheesh, where do I start? LOL...
The other side of the gun handling - What are human weapons spitting out? BB's? Dang, talk about NERFED weapons. When I first fired up the game and realized that 343 just refuses to address this issue. Covenant weapons also suck. The weapons also sound muted and many times almost indistinguishable from one another.
Sound continued. This game may have the worst sound design over-all from any other Halo title.
Graphics are OK, just OK. The problem is that the graphics should have been spectacular. 343 worked on the game long enough.
"The weapon" and her "cute" behavior. That sh*t was way over done. Of course, Cortana and her "romance" with the Chief led the way! 343 Industries is female dominated so...
The story line. LOL...
The TAC map, That could have been made much more streamlined. As great as the weapons handle (despite the weakness and mediocre sound) the map interaction is just the opposite. What a clunker.
No passengers on the tank? WTF? That's pathertic. But it's OK because the Marines can apparently jump almost as high as a Spartan!

Better than Halo 5, worse than 4. Mickey mouse halo game. Campaign is a waste of time and nothing really happens, just watch a youtube playthrough and skip through it. Somehow you can't replay the mainline campaign missions and the open world is basically empty other than cookie cutter named brutes/grunts that have a special weapon you get after killing them, basically filler fights to pad runtime. You also get missions to save teams of marines across the map, they don't help for the campaign though. They are not included in the main story, just another extra mission type to pad runtime.
Gameplay feels really good though but the firearms don't have that Halo sound.
Story also is jumbled. Just like Halo 4 to Halo 5, Halo 5 to Infinites storyline is not continued. It is somewhat but it's done weird. Halo Wars 2 stuff isn't really included, the main enemy from that game is killed off screen, the Infinity is destroyed off screen basically, cortana destroyed off screen.
Idk man, if you have gamepass give it a try, it's not a 0/10. Youll have fun playing it but it's nothing stellar. Multiplayer is somewhat fun, just don't go dropping 60 dollars on this

Infinite has really come a long way since it first arrived in 2021. After 4 years, the game is in the state it should have been when first launched with a complete playlist containing social and competitive game types. If you've given up on this game because of how it launched, I'd give it a try now, I think you'll like it.

Halo Infinite is the product of Mismanagement. 343i's dependence on Contractors resulted in probably the most inconsistent live service game possible. Yet I still find myself coming back.
Recently, the dev team has been super consistent with their content drops, and I hope they keep up the pace. I love the customization in this game, and hope the devs do more in the future to increase the flexibility of it as they have already. Things on my wishlist are providing additional customization to armor kits, and implementing cross-core wrist and utility attachments. The player customization is in a good spot right now, leagues better than where it was at launch.
The game is solid, but I can think of other games that have elements of Halo Infinite does, and executes better. And yet, I find myself coming back. Halo Infinite is the sum of it's parts. A fun arena shooter that effectively modernizes the classic Halo I grew up playing. I recommend this game to anyone that grew up playing classic Halo, or is curious to see what the old-heads are so crazy about.
Me personally, Halo Infinite has a firm place in my game rotation.

I enjoyed the campaign , just wish it played more like a story driven game. Never been into open world games; like narrative driven games like the classic halo games, crysis or even Metro. I wish we would go backwards when it comes to game development I miss games that try to be movies (a story driven experience the further you get more of the story and the world unfolds) like MGS 2 from PS one days.

While I understand the fanbase's complaints about it, you could practically poop in a box and write "new Halo" on it and I'd probably enjoy it. Not just necessarily "eat it up". If you're not a hater you probably won't hate it either. I'd change some stuff, but this franchise will be easier to salvage than some a-hole celebratory's career, so thumbs up just 'cuz that is what 343 deserves in da butt, ASSuming they don't like it TOO much, putting pride armor on Chief was a bit much for me. It's Master Chief, not Molvaney Chief, to me. But I'd rather tolerate a micropaniss over micro transactions any day. Overall 'tho I enjoyed the "total package" so to speak, I'm just appropriately embarrassed to admit it, for like 343 reasons.

Very buggy. Often can't swap skills, sometimes when I die I get respawned way earlier than it's supposed to until I end the game and reload it. Some doors can't open so I'm stuck, then when I try to respawn it respawns me wayyy back and I have to redo all the fights.

I've tried 5+ times in the past several months to download and play this game. Every time I re-download and attempt to boot, i'm stuck in a perpetual loop of hitting enter to log in, followed by a black box on the screen. The game is completely locked in this state and is unplayable.
The workaround is to go to "web browser" steam settings (?????????) which do not exist, or force log out of every single game and app that uses xbl credentials on my PC. I'm sorry, I do not care about this game enough to inconvenience every other xbox game I own. 343... figure it the fk out. This is going to be a biased review as i'll admit i couldn't care less about the multiplayer/pvp gamemode and i've never actually cared to try it, but here goes.
Halo infinite is a fantastic singleplayer experience, building upon many modern FPS features that were initially introduced to the series with 4 and 5, two of my personal favourite games in the franchise despite 5's story issues. everything in infinite comes together into a cohesive, fluid gameplay experience that feels as though it was hand crafted like this without any trials or trouble. in many ways i consider infinite a better representation of what a halo game should be than any entry from 1 to 3, and it really only stops short in having a fairly limited weapon variety, as well thought out as they are. the lack of the carbine is sorely felt and i feel the railgun from halo 4 would have been a good addition, but the entire abilities and equipment system is fantastic. Characters are great, there are some genuinely great interactions and little story moments that still stick with me, and the villains manage to completely avoid being pastiches of past halo villains and really feel like a genuine, new threat with complex motivations.

Meet and beat all of the minimum system requirements and the game still wont even boot up. 343 has ruined this game and ruined Halo. The game is great when it works, but it doesn't work. The last two times I have tried to play the game, it wouldn't even fully load up. Just freezes on log in screen. Horrible experience. If i could get my money back I would.
