the fact that the rarest achievements in the game are not really that hard but require you to have a friend says a lot about society the game is full of content, enjoyable to play it at least once. it offers a lot of exploration, relax and a quite good and surprising plot. I highly recommend this game at least for the story, DLCs worthy also

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a fantastic continuation of the 2013 reboot. The graphics are absolutely beautiful – environments are stunning, character models are detailed, and the overall atmosphere is very immersive. The combat is noticeably better than in the first game. It feels smoother, more impactful, and gives you more freedom in how you approach fights. The stealth mechanics are especially satisfying, particularly toward the end of the game, where they really shine. The story follows a structure similar to the first game – a strong start, a solid buildup, and a memorable finale. While it doesn’t deliver the same eerie or horror-like vibe the first game had, it makes up for it with more polished gameplay and a tighter narrative focus. Puzzle sections were much easier to understand this time around, which made them more enjoyable and less frustrating. They’re well integrated into the world and offer a nice break from combat-heavy moments. Overall, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a high-quality action-adventure experience, with excellent visuals, improved gameplay, and a story that keeps you engaged from start to finish. Whether you're a fan of the series or just looking for a thrilling single-player game, this one’s worth playing. Definitely recommend it!

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 176: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (9/10) Crystal Dynamics truly hit their stride with Rise of the Tomb Raider, elevating Lara Croft’s rebooted saga into something that feels both mythic and grounded. This entry finds the perfect middle ground between action-packed spectacle and quiet moments of discovery, offering a semi-open world that’s richly layered and brimming with detail. 🌲 Pros:

A semi-open world done right. Siberia’s brutal, haunting beauty is the perfect backdrop for Lara’s journey. Each hub—whether it’s a snowy valley, a forested gulag, or a crumbling Byzantine installation—feels handcrafted and immersive, encouraging exploration without overwhelming you with size. The semi-open world format gives the game a sharp sense of pace, balancing freedom with focus. Optional tombs and crypts don’t feel like side content; they’re essential, lovingly designed, and full of satisfying environmental puzzles that scratch that classic Tomb Raider itch.
Endurance Mode, a hidden gem. Endurance Mode deserves more praise. It’s an intense, replayable survival challenge that strips Lara of her cinematic invincibility and forces you to scavenge, hunt, and craft in the harshest conditions. Managing warmth, hunger, and resources while delving into random tombs makes for a high-stakes, addictive loop that feels like a game all its own. It’s what survival modes should be—brutal, minimalist, and incredibly rewarding.
Gunplay and stealth that actually feel good. Combat is tight, responsive, and flexible. Guns are weighty and satisfying, but the real joy comes from bow stealth takedowns, crafting distractions or traps on the fly, and watching enemies unravel. Stealthit feels viable, rewarding, and integrated into level design. Whether you're sneaking through a snowy gulag at night or outflanking Trinity soldiers in the ruins, Rise makes you feel like a predator.
Tombs, puzzles, and secrets galore. The game’s optional challenge tombs are some of the best in the franchise: self-contained slices of environmental storytelling and puzzle design that are equal parts eerie and awe-inspiring. Each one feels distinct and is worth tracking down. Combined with relics, murals, and documents, there’s a strong archaeological heart to the game that rewards curiosity with tangible gameplay benefits.
Lara’s journey feels earned. Lara is more than just a vessel for gameplay. Her character arc is deeper, more nuanced, and more mature here than in the previous reboot. She's motivated by belief, and her pursuit of truth and legacy makes her more compelling than ever.
⛏️ Cons:

Predictable main storyline. While Lara’s emotional motivations feel more grounded than in the 2013 reboot, the actual plot structure doesn’t break new ground. The “secret lost city,” the “immortal prophet,” and the “evil organization seeking eternal life” trope is well-worn, and most major story beats can be seen coming from a mile away. It’s not poorly told, but the story feels more like a vehicle for the gameplay than a memorable narrative in its own right.
Enemy variety is limited. Combat is fun and fluid, but you’ll mostly be fighting waves of similar Trinity soldiers. Even in the later sections, the game rarely surprises you with radically different enemy types. There are brief moments where wildlife or supernatural enemies break up the monotony, but those moments are rare. As a result, extended combat sequences can start to feel a bit samey—especially if you're doing all side missions or replaying in higher difficulty modes.
The game is so-so, the plot is so-so, the person responsible for co-op achievements is a separate cauldron in hell, there are no critical errors, the DLC is so-so (2 are normal, 2 are crap).

The game has too many quick time events. I put up with at first but when I had several dozen of them in the first couple of hours, I had had enough. I don't know if the game gets better, but the early game is insufferable, consisting mostly of cinematic BS with quick time events

So the first game is a peanut butter jelly sandwich, with just enough peanut butter and jelly to keep your hunger away, but makes you crave for more. This one is a huge peanut butter jelly sandwich with too much peanut butter and not enough jelly. It's way too big for its own good. Too much things to do, and too much stuff to open. So I found myself constantly press R3 just to check if there are collectables nearby. The story is way too similar to before, but feels less. There is not enough action and not enough difficult situations for Lara to go through. And its natural because she progresses as the character and should not have trouble with something that she has overcome before. But then why is she in watered down version of those situations? Put her in different ones. The whole setting is just bland. Ancient greek ruins in snowy Russia sounds good, but not executed at all. It's just boring to see all that white all the time, and it's just not fun to run around, so collecting and unlocking just feels repetetive. Game of the year edition also kills the collecting because you have weapons unlocked right away, same as some costumes. So crafting aslo doesn't play as big of a role. It looks great, and they thankfully made tombs what they were supposed to be in the first game. They are fun to explore and some of them actually made me think here and there. I tried playing it just like the first one, but soon found myself not enjoying any of it at all. So once I got to the last location I didn't bother doing anything at all, and just rushed towards the end. Shame.

Very good game with plenty of main missions and optional ones (if you wish to complete them). Across the map, you will find plenty of caves to explore and a lot of items/weapons to be collected. Some fights have been challenging and puzzles have been enjoyable to complete. I would really recommend playing this game and its a perfect continuation from the first one

TLDR; This is a great game despite some issues: entertaining & tense story, gratifying platforming & puzzles with rewarding exploration, it's solid & satisfying. Though a sequel to Tomb Raider 2013 (which I strongly recommend!), this game is essentially standalone & a fine place to start. It's almost a mixture of Tomb Raider & Far Cry, but much less annoying. 7.5/10 - I think most people will really like this game! (Review is spoiler free). Gameplay/story: Issues granted, this is a really awesome game, and I couldn't stop playing. At 44 hours to complete to 100%, this is the largest TR game to this point, though, you could complete the faster. The main gameplay mechanics (combat, puzzling and platforming) work almost entirely smoothly and well, it's a joy to play most of the time. If the prequel was combat(40%):platforming(40%):puzzling(20%), this felt like combat(40%):platforming(30%):puzzling(30%). To a certain extent you can adjust the ratio depending on how much you like to explore. On exploration, you have a focus button that highlights collectables and the elements you can interact with. Being an obsessive collector aiming for 100% completion, I used this pretty much constantly. The downside is unfortunately this element was buggy, which I'll get too. The story is told directly and indirectly, directly with cutscenes: rendered and in-engine. Really engaging and immersive, they do a great job of transitioning from the story scenes to the gameplay. There's also indirect story you can discover, in the form of letters, notes and recordings found across the maps. They're all fully voice-acted, and the VAs are really good. You might notice a few delivery mistakes here and there, and some information is not worth listening to, but I loved hearing most of these, they generally added a lot to the world building. Lara sometimes narrates, during gameplay and responding to her environment. She'll express her feelings on the events of the story, usually during the campsite stops where you upgrade your weapons and inventory. It can be funny when something urgent is happening in the story, and you choose to have a nice little sit-down by the fire, as Lara ignores the chaos and talks to herself while you upgrade things; but it's good that you're not punished for taking your time. I really liked the story, even with a couple of plot-holes and stupid character choices here and there. The notes allow you to figure things out and the game takes a while to catch up, it can be awkward as Lara is listening to the same things you are. I understand you can't have different stories, it would have been nice to at least have alternate dialogue or cutscenes here and there. The notes you find don't spoil anything or make anything worse, though. With that said, these issues were pretty insignificant, I found the story thrilling; I was never bored in 44 hours and couldn't wait to see what happened next. I loved the historical and mythical intrigue, with some of the sense of dread and urgency over from the 2013 game. The boss fights are improved, and there's much less quicktime events thankfully. Lara has grown a lot from her last adventure, yet still unsure of herself. She is consistently troubled by how her actions and how they affect, and have affected, the people she cares about. She struggles to carry this burden, but the events of the story are absolutely consequential to her life going forward. She's still an exceptional person in a lot of ways, when you really think of what Lara is capable of, physically and mentally. The characters you cross are aware of this, which they absolutely should be as it's impossible not to notice while still be taken seriously. You can reflect for yourself on whether Lara is a good person or not! Personally, I don't think she's entirely good, she's certainly not bad either; she's laser-focused, stubborn, and fascinated. She does what she has to in order to survive and help. Her morality really depends subjectively on how you look at it, and objectively based the events of the story outside her control. I feel if she had acted entirely good, and was not as obsessed as she is, the world might literally have been ended. I do feel she does ultimately makes the right choices where it matters, even if her reasons can be unclear; if Lara wasn't there, flaws and all, everything would have been much worse. Though unquestionably, Lara is an absolute badass. Lara's model has changed from TR2013, weirdly closer to the pre-rendered model from that game! I think this might be the best Lara model though; great expressions. Camilla Luddington returns as Lara, not just as the voice, but motion capture for her too. The voice and motion capture work are almost entirely well done, there's small moments where the capture looks a little uncanny, and the voice doesn't match the scene too well, but it's rare. The detailed animation otherwise is just about as good as the previous game, so many contextual animations occur as you explore. It's just a pleasure to play. Negatives! - You use your focus ability to find key objects and scenery, but it's slow and unresponsive. It even stopped working a couple of times, requiring a checkpoint load. Also when using the focus, Lara sometimes thinks you need help with a local puzzle: "I know, Lara! I'm just exploring, please shut tf up!" - Some relics you find have extra details you can find by rotating the model around, this function was almost broken; it was either slow or not work at all no matter where you rotate the relic to. It worked perfectly in TR2013! It would be no issue if you didn't get XP for finding these details (used for uncovering map secrets), but four or five of these relics didn't work. Not all relics have these details, but it was annoying! - There was some t-posing, the funniest was when you have to climb a tower face with a bunch of enemies, some of them standing against the wall or sliding up the surface. This happened I think 3 or 4 times in the 44 hours I played. - Lara did randomly disengage her hold on some things, usually the axe rope or a climbing wall. It didn't happen very often. - I didn't like the Vale DLC; a cool story but it's a bit annoying crap in my opinion. - Wolves are annoying! (There always has to be one annoying animal in every game.) - Characters do make stupid or odd decisions for the sake of the story, and there's a couple of plot-holes. - Some of the NPCs aren't animated very well, sometimes a character's face barely moves; usually this is during gameplay rather than cutscenes. - There is much more to do than the previous game, but the game can feel less focused and streamlined. You might prefer this, however. - Everything is always on fire during combat! It happens too much, but is quite funny at least. Extra positives: + The costumes are much cooler than the boring ones from TR 2013, some have buffs. There's more too, I think some come from DLC. It's finally fun to unlock them again, which has not been the case since Tomb Raider Legend! + The sound design is great, levelled very well. Everything sounds immersive and appropriate. + It's often gorgeous, excellent design and so much care. Some areas inspired an audible "WOAH". People really cared about this game. + There is much more to do than the previous game, which is mostly fun and I found worth doing for the rewards; there's a high retention rate according to the achievement percentages! Overall: I had a blast and couldn't put it down. It doesn't quite reach the emotional intensity or dramatic highs of the previous game, but that was a tall order, and the storyline itself I think is actually better, and more interesting, if spread more thinly. It has it's share of bugs, it could have used more polish, mostly with the focus and relics, but the game didn't actually crash a single time for me. I had such a great time, I'd say the third best Tomb Raider behind 2013 and Legend. 7.5/10 - It's great!

The game is so Fing good but the optimization dead end sucks. Straight up stutter from 90-1000 fps to 8-10 fps. I wanna play this but idk what to do. I am sorry man. I love this game but I really wished it had less stutter.

I've never finished a game before. But I finished this one. The story line was amazing I played on the easiest version and It was still a challenged for me which I loved, I've started on the wrong game LOL but I had so much fun and I'm of to download the first game. The puzzles were difficult but doable and the gameplay was fantastic I play on a laptop so there was some lag but It didnt disrupt me much!

Rise of the Tomb Raider is easily one of my favorite entries in the entire Tomb Raider series—and without a doubt the best in the reboot trilogy. The story is compelling, the atmosphere is breathtaking, and the gameplay strikes a perfect balance between action, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Everything just clicks. It’s the kind of experience that reminds you why you fell in love with gaming in the first place. We honestly need more games like this today.

This game is really beautiful and I remember I played this game when I was a kid (about 10 years ago) and I became very interested in the game when I played for the first time and now I love this game and I recommend this game to everyone to play this game. Because this game shows you everything from being courageous and strong to kindness and generosity. And in the end I would like to say that I am very grateful to the creator of this game for creating this beautiful work and art.❤️🙏 Best wishes, 【𝓽𝓱𝓸𝓻】

Vast improvement over the first instalment of the franchise reboot. Collecting things actually has a purpose. But my god, it makes you go back to complete all the missions, challenges and weapon upgrades. For this, I will forever be stuck at 99% lol. Thoroughly enjoy this game. Might eventually go back to 100% it... who knows

I had a blast playing *Rise of the Tomb Raider*! I clocked about nineteen hours and the game kept pulling me in the whole time. The story hooks you right away, exploring those huge, snowy sets always feels like a real win, and the gunfights are just plain fun. Lara grows in a believable way, the scenery looks gorgeous-I stopped more than once just to take in a vista and snap an in-game photo. The puzzles hit a sweet spot, tricky enough to make you think but never so cruel you want to quit. If you like action-adventure with a little wit, give this one a go. Seriously, dont miss it!

Absolute Cinema. So I played the first game of this reboot on PS4 and it was alright. Turning Laura more into a hunter than adventurer archeologist. In this game, you are continuing your father's journey for the path to eternal youth and are met with betrayal, twists, turns, action and Laura in a more raw state, like a Kratos role. She's been here before and is kicking ass now, while taking names of those asses. The movement between camera and traversal is much improved from the reboot, more military weapons and less tribal weapons, heal on the fly, craft ammo on the fly and a theme music indicator when enemies are nearby to fight. There's way more fighting here, so it's not like you have weapons ONLY for story moments, any time or anywhere there is a fight which is nice and the Tomb Raider I remember growing up on. Tons of costumes to find or craft or even buy, tons of attachments for your guns or bow, different types of bows, too. The reboot felt like a test and this game is like "we got the story right so let's improve the other stuff" and they do it SOOOOO well. The story is so damn good, Laura feels like a badass, she is constantly aura farming, cussing a lot, getting headshots, she isn't the death dummy she was in the reboot. Sure, you can die some gruesome ways, but now your arsenal is so vast this time, you rarely die from enemies, more so physics of the game. Mods also make the game a billion times better, Blood Rayne mod is the best and lastly the graphics... This is Square Enix's strong suit, the visuals for this game at max settings without mods, is something else... SE just doesn't worry about graphics cause they nail it without thinking. I'm sure Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the cherry on top, but this game is crazy good. Makes you think why Crystal Dynamics went the EA/WB/Ubisoft route these days... If we ever get a new Tomb Raider, no way Laura will be the sexy badass she is, unless the game director is given free control and knows what her fans want to see, but time will tell. By the way don't even cope for that Perfect Dark sequel for the replacement, it is fugly trash XD My rating: 10/10 This feels like a sequel, like a Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 2, Bio Shock 2 devs learning from the first game, to make round 2 a phenomenon. I got this on sale, so whenever it is again for you: instant buy! I'll miss your british bod raiding tombs Laura o7

I love stealth games and Tomb raider always delivers on that. I get stressed when I am chased by enemies or die all the time unless I am skilled enough to press 100 buttons at once (which I am not, I am but a simple girl). So that is why the rewarding combat in TR2 really speaks to me. I feel like I am good at this game and I love that feeling. Great game, definitely for my fellow ladies.

This is a story game first and foremost. On the highest difficulty most people will breeze through the game, combat sections are short and easy to clear, either because they can be done completely in stealth or because, in moments where the devs force you to go into a loud engagement, the enemy AI is quite stupid. Puzzles are easy, there is a lot of boring parkour (at least an hour of my playtime was spend climbing or jumping on walls), the story is intriguing at the beginning but starts to meander in the middle right up until the end. I recommend the game if it is on sale.

Damn...I may regret writing this so fresh after finishing my first play-through, but -honesty- is ALWAYS the best policy. Phew....okay. First off, do I recommend this game? Yes. Oh, jess, amigo! Absolutely, yes. Spend your hard-earned money on this; especially if you're thirsty for an action-adventure game sporting a beautiful art-style, a compelling story with a bad-ass b*tch at the helm (and I say that respectfully, it is what it is), and some satisfying, crunchy game-play that rolls it all up quite nicely. Because it's all here. Rise Of The Tomb Raider can and will quench that thirst like an ice-cold Squirt on a So-Cal summer afternoon. Now...Do you have to play the first game (Tomb Raider, circa 2013) in order to enjoy or understand this one? Errr....No. Not really. Actually, no. No, you don't. Not at all. However, SHOULD you play the first game before diving into this one? Yes, it makes both games better. There are more than a handful of references, characters and situations that allude to this game's predecessor (not to the point of making you lost or frustrated, though), and, more over, it (Tomb Raider, the previous game, circa 2013) IS the better game. Point blank. However, this one still rocks. It's good s**t. I'm just so...well, not conflicted. Just...mad, lol. Game-play wise, Rise Of The Tomb Raider offers some slight improvements, but Tomb Raider (its predecessor, circa 2013) already laid an extremely rigid, solid and satisfying foundation on that front. No complaints whatsoever there. The story is, well, it's beyond good, to be perfectly candid. It's actually quite f**king fire (not literally though, most of this game takes place in the vast wilderness of Soviet-era Siberia, so bring a fur-coat and Balto, ya b*tch!). Graphics are prettier, it ran quite well on my 1060 6GB with some slight tweaking. Tweaking that is not necessary, mind you, I'm just a picky c**t. But damn...that fu**ing ending. That goddamn conclusion. Or, more precisely, some parts of the ending. What parts in particular, you may be well forgiven for inquiring? Well, friend, I'm referring to that stupid-ass, stank-ass, final "boss" fight. Christ, what a joke. GOD, WHAT A LET-DOWN. To make a very long story short and simultaneously spoiler-free, the developers behind this otherwise digital jewel, want you (and therefore FORCE YOU) to engage with and defeat the final boss in a very specific way; in particular, THEIR WAY. So, it's their way or the highway, ass-face! And they just proceed to s**t all over ALL of the unique, cool and customizable builds they offer you up until that point. I'ts so dumb, so disappointing, and so tone-deaf. It was sooooo good until that point. AAARGGGHH!!!! But, that's it, I'll end it there (both the criticism and the review overall), because that tiny speck of -BLEEGH!- at the end, that goofy final boss fight...is just exactly that. A TINY speck of BLEEGH. It's a tiny, turdy little drip-drop in an otherwise vast and fantastic ocean of "Yes sir/madam devs, I'll be happy to give you my money in exchange for excellence, fun and quality in large quantity!". And that's what you should walk away from this review remembering. Okay, Scotty?!?!?!? DO NOT let the goof-troop final boss encounter overshadow an otherwise brilliantly executed video game, a breathing piece of digital art. Yes, buy this game, buy the Tomb Raider Trilogy, they're modern classics. But, sadly, they're not infallible. But what is, I ask you, dear reader? What is? Aside from me, of course? LARA CROFT FOREVER!

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Tomb Raider 2013., but this one is something I couldn't believe, In my opinion, this is a fantastic game that I ever played, it has a good story, good graphics, and the gameplay is exceptional quality, but there are some things this game has problems with. The optimization of this game is very weak and it feels less compelling, and even with the latest Nvidia GPU it cannot get 200-300 fps unless the game is on a very low setting or applying a setting recommended by the Geforce Driver. While there are some areas for improvement, this game remains impressive overall.

Pretty much the same game as the first one, but with improved graphics. The story isn’t as strong as the original, but it’s still an enjoyable experience.

Read in the preferred racist tone of your choice: "So the game is good. It's good. Good. Great actually. You want a beer?"

First time playing this as I have completed other Tomb Raider titles for the PS4. The game is old but very detailed and fun, it's not as big of an RPG but more campaign based. However I will definitely recommend this game even though it's been released for over a decade, still engaging and outperforms some games that are released in 2025.

After playing The Last of Us Part II, I was looking for more action adventure. This is the first Laura Croft game I played and I'm glad I did. Gave a similar feel and vibe as Uncharted but with more customization. The tomb puzzles were fun and challenging but not unfair. I played on the hardest setting and was able to complete 71% of the game in just under 39 hours so I could put in another 10-20 hours to get closer to 100% but I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. The weapons, skills, and customization made the game extra fun for me, an area that Uncharted lacked. There were really only 1-3 parts that I had to do many times over but the challenge for me was just right. The hardest part of the highest difficulty is I would have to start all the way over from my last save point if I didn't complete the entire objective so I put myself through some additional voluntary torment but I asked for it and I am proud I completed the game. The only downsides/criticism I can really say is I didn't find the story particularly compelling. The characters and narrative felt basic, boring, and predictable. I wasn't drawn to the discoveries at all, didn't care about the crown or jewels etc. that were in the chests, I just cared about leveling up and getting more skill points. No crazy twists or anything which left the story itself pretty underwhelming and the character dialogue was also just basic and mundane but every other area of the game I would say flourished and it was a lot of fun. Square Enix is elite, never disappoints and always puts out stellar games. Based on this positive experience I'm looking forward to playing more games in the franchise.

Absolutely solid game. Rise of the Tomb Raider blends action, stealth, puzzle-solving, and storytelling in a really satisfying way. But what stood out most for me was the exploration — I was completely immersed in searching through caves, tombs, and ancient ruins. Every area is packed with secrets, collectibles, and hidden lore that made wandering off the main path genuinely rewarding. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is smooth, and the world feels alive and rich with mystery. Whether you're sneaking through enemy camps, crafting gear, or diving into a forgotten crypt, the game keeps things engaging without feeling overwhelming. If you enjoy games that reward curiosity and make you feel like a true adventurer, this one’s for you.

Bought this on the summer sale so its very good value. Honestly, the gameplay is quite good and the mechanics done very well. My issue is that it just starts feeling repetitive after a while. Graphics are actually quite good considering this was released in 2016. I'd recommend it.
