Excellent twitch arcade game in theory if you got fast response times can be played on reaction but for the rest of us its learn the patterns and click appropriately and that's still good fun for like half an hour so far for this perspective player but I will recommend it based on it scratching an itch every so often if you remember you got that itch in the first place which admittedly is easy to forget in our high octane modern world that's always got a new trick up its sleeve vying for our attention.
Entertainment... it's everywhere!

Quick Score: 5/5
Notes: Pretty fun memorization/arcade game. I have no fucking clue how people fully clear this game in 6 hours. I finished the standard clear of the game in 90 minutes, and I'm pretty sure it would take me well over 30 hours to get all achievements if I tried.

I've been waiting for JUMPGRID to come out for a couple months only, after seeing a gif on Twitter that instantly hooked me.
The gameplay, the visuals, and later the music, all struck me.
I said to myself : wow, this is going to be a masterpiece. It just clicked, and I immediately showed it to everyone in my social cluster.
Playing it now, I can confirm that JUMPGRID doesn't disappoint these high standards I had set for it, and even goes further than that.
The gameplay and level design are just amazing. For some levels, I was just dying over and over just because I was in awe, just sitting there in front of such a carefully and meticulously crafted game.
The replayability is somewhere between "let's retry all the quadrants now that I know them a bit" and "I'll play this until my eyes bleed just to beat everyone in the leaderboards".
The game is kinda short, when you think about it, but could be increased in the future if Ian MacLarty decides to add levels.
One thing that could be added to improve gametime is a level editor. I really think people would do wonderful things with such a tool.
All in all, JUMPGRID meets every criteria :
- it's fun from the first level all the way to the end boss
- it's refreshing while itching the same scratch as previous titles like Bit Trip Runner or Super Hexagon
- it's balanced in difficulty, it's never too easy nor too hard
- it has great visuals (be careful if you're sensitive to flashes)
- it has a very good and fitting soundtrack
- it's cheap, so please consider buying it to support the developer
JUMPGRID will probably end up on my 2019 GOTY list.

If you have any doubts about Jumpgrid drop them right now! This game is a blast.
At the core it's a twitch movement game. Expect it to push the limits on how fast your fingers can press the buttons. But being fast isn't going to be enough to finish all the levels. Some levels are finished by memorizing a pattern. Some levels need strategy and this game's version of patience. Some levels do need pure speed. Jumpgrid stays fresh because you never know what to expect in the next level.
Even if the foundation doesn't change. You always need to collect eight cubes and then reach the center. It seems so simple. The truth though, it is! A simple idea and simple mechanic. The objective is clear. But it moves so fast. Jumpgrid is for only those who have quick hands and making decisions under pressure. Although, I don't think any level is impossible. Even if I have to restart a level 100 times. Each restart gives me a nanosecond of more information so I can plan my route. While I appreciate the quick restart I wish the game kept running after a death. It's difficult to plan. It's hard to understand the movement in the level if you're so focused on not dying and then only get to see a little bit more each time. Also, I can only play in short bursts as the stress adds up and I make simple mistakes as my hands get tired.
Overall, this is a fantastic minimalist game. It's difficult to tell how good it is from the store page. If you have quick hands and pushing that further excites you then you should pick this up. It has a ton of level variety as each quadrant has a different theme. There's an infinite mode too! I'm a huge fan.

Not sure what genre this game belongs in, but it's a challenging, bite-sized bit of entertainment nonetheless.
(+) Unique concept that definitely makes the most of its limits and strengths, with every level feeling different and every zone featuring a clever addition to the already unorthodox formula
(+) Quick restarts and relatively small levels encourage one to keep trying
(+) Basic but bold visuals and an energetic soundtrack add to the fast-paced, arcadey tone
(-) Later levels do get longer and start implementing disorientation tactics that can nullify muscle memory and pattern recognition (not necessarily bad, but buyer beware that trial-and-error will probably become necessary)
(-) Extremely short game
Paid $2.50 — Would pay up to $4.00

Jumpgrid's a tough trial-and-error tango about warping around on a grid to collect cubes while dodging obstacles. The premise is simple, but a lot of the levels can be pretty difficult to conquer. Time and time again, I found myself going "how the heck am I supposed to beat this?" Then I'd watch closely at all the cubes I've yet to collect, as well as what spaces are safe to be on at various points in the level, for the sake of optimizing. Soon enough, the routing came together in a satisfying "aha!" moment and I prevailed and the cycle continued once more. That's the kind of stuff to expect in this game.
Jumpgrid's a pretty engaging game with its difficulty, and the graphics and music keeps the arcade feel strong too. The colorful and flashy visuals alongside space-like music kept me mesmerized and in the zone. If you've got the mindset for twitchy and difficult trial-and-error stuff, consider jumping into Jumpgrid!

I came upon Jumpgrid through another, similar indie game called Vectronom, which got a similar vibe to it in terms of graphics, music, and gameplay - mostly. I say mostly because just like in Vectronom, there are levels where you play alongside the music, trying to move with the beat and so on, but there are also some levels that feel more like learning it step by step and having no time to observe the patterns before jumping in the action. It doesn't mean that the levels weren't clever, they absolute were, I'm just more of a fan of the other type I mentioned before.
Also, while the soundtrack slapped during playing the game, but as I am writing the review there's not a single song stuck in my head from it anymore.
It's rather short - took me around 2 hours to beat it (not in one session), but there's also stuff like an endless mode, and trying to beat levels faster is especially motivating in those kinds of games for me.
I'd still recommend to check it out if you dont have problems with flashing lights and are resistant to some trial and error stages because it's a lot of fun and not a big money commitment too.

This is exactly the kind of game that plugs directly into my brain and doesn't let me stop. You can finish it in 20 minutes, but I'm 12 hours in and just getting started. Perfectly responsive controls, simple concept, serious difficulty, infinite room for improvement. Tragic that more people aren't playing this, I've already gotten in the top 20 on some of the leaderboards.

Gets a little bit trial&error-y in the last few levels, but overall it is a fun precise action puzzle game where you jump from grid to grid avoiding obstacles. Making a mistake immediately resets you, which keeps you in the action. Definitely worth the small asking price, though it is also rather short if you just play through the four chapters - though there is a Speedrun and Infinite mode if you want more.

Good fast fun worth buy. Surprisingly no headache or eye strain. Doesn't overstay its welcome! Good job Ian Maclarty!

A wonderfully simple concept that just works. Be warned, though: this game will bombard you with psychedelic graphics that will constantly try to distract you from the actual gameplay, causing you to get hit by easily-avoidable obstacles. In the later levels, I stopped having any idea what was going on, and had to stop playing because I was dizzy. It has one small flaw that I can't find the words to explain right now because my brain is still scrambled from the third quadrant, but the good outweighs the bad and at such a low price it's worth every penny.

It's fine for $5. Harder for me than Super Hexagon. One thing--if your reflexes have been conditioned by years of DDR, Rock Band, etc., you may want to turn the music off because you're going to need to move off the beat to finish the levels: a sense of rhythm is almost a liability here.

Too fast-paced for me. A few years ago I would have liked this type of game, now it gives me a headache. I like the art, concept and gameplay, but dying every 2 seconds hurts my brain.

Wow. I somehow managed to beat the game . First of all , this game is such a hidden gem . Even though it looks like a rhythm game , its not. This is a reflex based game that sometime depends on the trial and error method. I agree that the trial and error part sometimes gets irritating but still , the game is original and pretty creative. All you can do is move to the dots on the grids. That is all you can do in this game and somehow this developer managed to make such an enjoyable game out of such a simple thing. This game gets dirt cheap on sale and i would totally recommend it to everyone who doesn't get bothered too much from dying a lot.

A great little game for super fast paced action puzzle fans. Figuring out the pattern for each level feels fun, unique and interesting every time. Simple design at its finest. GG!

(Skip paragraph for TL:DR / Highs & Lows)
Not much to say about this that you can’t take away from watching the video. Collect all 9 spark thingies in a 3x3 grid without touching moving obstacles and then get to center node to warp to next level. Classic arcade feel style game that would have robbed you of all your quarters back in the day. Controls are very responsive and smooth. Best when played with friends who like to one up each other.
TL:DR – for serious if you skipped the above paragraph this game is right up your ADHD alley.
- I also would recommend Super Hexagon

A great test of focus :)
Some levels are reaction tests,
Some levels you gotta memorize the directions,
Some levels are almost more puzzle-like where you have to figure out the correct way to solve them.
The fast reaction-y are my personal favorite, works great since you can prepare ahead of time because everything is tied to the motion of shapes :)
A few levels are kind of annoying though, where they are clearly unfair or are just messing with your head (e.g rotating the playing field).

For starters, take a look at that trailer. Gorgeous, right? So slick, and it looks even better filling your screen at high resolution. Fans of shapes will get their money's worth out of style alone.
It's remarkable that all 100 levels here are unique and varied. Every drop is wrung from the concept of "jump between nodes on a grid." Trial and error is a fair criticism, more so in the later levels, particularly the ones that kill you at the end of the movement cycle. I enjoyed the fun-frustrating process of figuring out a workable path over repeated attempts. Learn-by-dying feels fair to me in this genre, but if it doesn't feel fair to you, you might have a bad time.
Endless mode is a welcome bonus. It seems to pull from a rather limited pool of hazard patterns, but so does Super Hexagon, so hey. I like how the scoring system encourages aggressive play.
I can see myself coming back to this game now and then. Good simple fun.

A fun arcadey avoidance game. I love booting this game up every now and then to try and beat my time on each of the four quadrants, and with the addition of an endless mode, I can easily see myself pouring many tens of hours into this game. Definitely worth the purchase.

(+) Music is my kinda jam
(+) A unique/interesting concept regarding the movement and space
(+) There's more than one ways to complete a level (Example: instead of Warping around the Edge [something like Being on the Leftmost Side of the 3x3 Dot-Grid, and then pressing "Left" to suddenly be on the right side] , some levels allow you to instead press "Right" twice [manual-but-quick-movement] despite the design of the level wanting you to warp around the edge. This applies to Quadrant 2 especially I forgot which level it was though, it had a lot of circles coming from the top of the screen going downwards, while your movements are mostly restricted to a horizontal line
(-) Annoyingly relies on Trial-And-Error. I didn't really think much about this aspect when watching the trailer, but once playing, I think to myself "hm. Maybe i should refund this." However, as far as I know, refunding a game means that my written review gets erased and i can't submit a new review afterwards. I'd rather write my experience as a warning to other people. Besides, I would pay just for the concept alone.
(-) because of the point above, it also feels like a certain flashgame called "World's hardest game" where you need to memorize how the obstacle moves, need to have really, REALLY precise timing, and then hopefully be able to minimize your death count while advancing. When you do advance, congratulations, it's only for a second, because a shape suddenly moves irregularly and kills you. Now you're back to retrying the same level, gradually getting further but often dying on earlier parts that you already know about.
Do I recommend this game? Actually, if you LIKE hard games, yes. But, despite it's similarities to Super Hexagon, it doesn't really care about your reflexes. Where super hexagon actually randomizes things and simplifies the possible inputs and obstacle patterns so that you can really push your reflexes to the limit, this game is about memorizing, doing, and splitting your brain's focus between where you stand and where you should go.

first of my playtime is wrong because i played in offline mode. i finished the game
this game is not just pure reaction and timing gameplay but also ca. 50% puzzle so the hardest part of a level is often to find the right path.
the game has a total of
100
levels with a "boss" level every
25 levels
. the boss levels are 0% puzzle and the only goal is to survive long enough.
the artstyle and music really fit the gameplay which creates a great atmosphere while playing.
i normally have problems with raging during hard games but i wasent frustrated a single time during my playthrough even while i was stuck on one level for ca. 30 min.

Great game. Level design is simple but top-notch. The comparisons with Super Hexagon are fair but I think this one is much easier and intuitive to play (also, the visuals are less headache-indulcing). Very good presentation too.
The only downside is the music. Mostly for the blandness of it, but also because some levels are very rhythmic because of the patterns of the enemy, but the song is not in sync with these rhythms. A minor gripe.
Loved It.

its alright for what it is. youd think its more about reaction but often its just about pattern memorization. some levels make you wait a lot and it sucks. some other levels are pretty good and with better filtering of bad ideas could have been better but i wonder how deep you can really go with such gameplay. i liked it overall

This game made my hand hurt after only a half hour of play...and I couldn't be more satisfied with the purchase. Frenetic speed, responsive controls, and solid thumping tracks are all present in this wonderful little reflex/memory 'one more try' game.
At no point has the game felt unfair, and the delay between deaths and restart is nonexistent. A+

I played through the whole thing in one 70 minute session. Now my right hand is sore. What can I say, well, it's fast, challenging and visually stunning. But the challenge is just to find the right way, remember it and input that button sequence correctly into your keyboard. There is much more remembering and try and error than reacting, which is bad in my opinion. I mean some people like to input the same button sequence for years, but I see that doing as wasted time. There are many levels which you cannot do on your first try, you have to try and error your way through. I find this to be annoying. Also the music is cool but only one track gets annoying during this time span. I'm glad it's over now.
