Janky and floaty combat which isn't exactly great when it's a melee based fps game. Enemies seem to be able to pass right through you, enemy hit boxes seem to be all over the place. If the game wasn't on sale I'd have refunded by now.

Game is fun & easy to pick up and play without having to learn a billion new systems or any weird control schemes; it's familiar in actions, attacks, and block/dodge/parry, but this is not a "Souls-like" in any real way. The store page says "souls-like melee combat," but it isn't. It's a one button attack with hold for heavy attack, and one button to block or parry depending on which weapon you have equipped. Everything else is basic movement as in any FPS. Ways the game is like Dark Souls:

'fountains' are like 'bonfires' in that they are checkpoints
drop currency on death & you can retrieve it if you don't die trying to get it
break crockery
Everything else is not souls-like.

1st person
3 stats only, essentially damage, speed, and health, with certain abilities you unlock by leveling into those 3 stats
no stamina meter, no encumbrance, no inventory management
no roll button
there is a jump button
no ranged combat or magic
difficulty settings exist
healing flasks recharge without having to rest at the fountain
music is far more UT2004 coded than any DS game
no character customization or armor/clothing options
no bare feet
no innocent merchants to murder heartlessly
no summoning your level 400 friend to fight the boss for you and then drop a set of end-game gear you didn't earn
no 6 hour long YouTube glazing videos
is not obtuse in any way; everything makes sense immediately
no Guts cosplay
no sweaty bonfire duelists that refuse to use the arena
obviously tongue in cheek. The game is fun & good; it's just more of a circa 2000 quake clone that is melee only rather than souls-like. I've only played a few hours but I'm certainly going to play this one through to the end. Almost forgot: kicking enemies off cliffs is great & I do it every chance I get.

It just isn't that fun. All enemies feel the same, it feels random whether your kicks will knock enemies to their death or leave them standing tall against invisible walls, and levels drag on for how little enemy variety there is within stages. I feel like there isnt enough attack variety for this to work as a pure first-person slasher, but there arent enough RPG elements to hold up as a Soulslike. Whoever this game is for, it isnt for me.

It has this REALLY annoying thing where enemies respawn instead of just making real levels. So its a tunnel then small room rinse and repeat. Also the enemies are not smart, they just do a lot of dmg.

To be honest, I didn't expect much from this game, but once I started playing it, I got hooked. It is a hack and slash puzzler game. Think Skyrim dungeons and Dark Souls combined, with the ease of quickly switching weapons to strategize which to use on which enemy. The game can be a little too dark at times, but once you're engulfed in the world, it is all good. Leveling up is great and finding random new weapons is also great. Figuring out the correct path or where to get items can be a bit frustrating at times since sometimes there is no clear answer, time can be spent exploring the whole map for one item. But once it is found and the next stage begins, it gets super fun again. I recommend giving it a shot.

Elderborn is a must have for fans of Rampage(First person slasher) games, quick combat, many weapons, a mastery system for to increase damage for weapons you like, and a bunch of different enemies, game feels like it uses a similar combat system to the dead island games, with your slashes, heavy attacks, and kicks, only thing that's missing is the ability to throw weapons but I don't really miss it, Game is stylised, has great graphics, and really fun and addictive gameplay, 8/10, would rampage through Conan-esque catacombs again. (No idea how long the game is, will edit when I've finished it)

It's fun, I wouldn't say it's soulslike. It's difficult but not frustrating like most souls games. It's a fun little short game, I'm about half way cause I like to explore. It's fun, the weapon play is fun, though some enemies are a bit weird and the parry window is weird and trust me I love parry mechanics and love to use em a lot but some enemies are just weird to try to parry.

Bad gameplay, horrible fighting. If you care about spending every penny on sales, then don't buy it.

Short doom-like game that is fun but not without its flaws. The hit boxes were my biggest gripe and you didn't really 'feel' the hits. I still found myself having fun despite this and some other small problems. I recommend if you get it on a good sale.

I purchased this game on sale since the reviews said the game is short but after finishing all the achievements it lasted longer than expected. I had played a mix of normal difficulty for some runs and Hard AF as my main run into NG++. My last run I did a mini speed run for an achievement and sprinted through the game in just over an hour. Otherwise a run probably takes around 4 hours to complete depending on skill level. The combat feels very satisfying with each weapon having it's purpose. The enemies had enough variety with their own strategies to overcome. The dark souls aspect of the game is more about the weapons having a bit of weight behind them and having a NG+ mode. All damage can either be dodged or mitigated so the game does not feel cheap. Doom similarities are mostly from the soundtrack otherwise the game feels similar more akin to Hexen due to the melee combat and exploration. The soundtrack really helps improve the game. I loved every track and found myself dashing or killing to the songs. It's not necessary but hitting enemies with a 2h on down beats felt satisfying. Same with dashing since I normally used the drums as my timer for dashing around the map. Only con I had with this game was the 2nd boss. It's fun in the frustrating way as you want to overcome the challenge but
the amount of unblockable, fast and long reaching attacks that get spammed at you had me hating the balance. Kind of like Ornstein and Smough from Dark Souls if you removed the pillars, block and i-frames. I went from a deathless Hard AF run to like 70 deaths on this boss. And even after learning the fight the next run still smacks you due to the balance. On normal it doesn't feel as bad since you can trade some hits but on the highest difficulty getting hit usually means you are dead or will die from the combo that always seems to follow.
Even after completing all the game has to offer I do look forward to coming back to this game in the future for casual yearly replays.

Solid melee mechanics, really enjoyed the sense of progression, finding new weapons and completing the mastery challenges. Game is on the short side for one play through though. Was worth the price and fun for the four hours it took me to finish on normal difficulty.

Super fun and quick game. Feels like a medieval doom. Can complete the game in about 3 hours. Wait for a sale and give it some of your time!

It's good. Not my cup of tea, but it's not a bad game for it. You can't rebind EVERY control sadly. If you're playing on controller, use Steam Input, not the game's built in controller support. People describe this as a souls-clone, but bonfires and corpse runs don't make a souls clone. There's no stamina bar, no inventory at all so no armour, and there's only 3 stats to level up. This is more like a melee only boomer shooter with souls dressing. I loved Postal Brain Damaged, and this has a very similar feel. If you REALLY liked Postal BD this is probably for you. if you want Dark Souls first person mod, this is abso not that. I got the game for $3. For that price it's 100% worth buying.

Horrible camera shake (motion sickness), it's basically unplayable. Such a shame, it seems like a decent Dark messiah of might and magic clone.

Крутой слешер намного лучше дарксоулса и подобного кала. Cool slasher is much better than Darksouls and similar crap.
