I'm disappointed in what this game has become
and I'm disappointed in the subscription model it now relies on.
Princess and Conquest is out of early access,
but it's still being "developed" - maintained by Patreon subscriptions at a snail’s pace.
Its version 0.22.06 as of this writing.
Up-to-date versions and betas are exclusive to Patreon. Not Steam.
The core game is complete, but feature creep has taken over.
The developers keep adding content. The game now crams in every possible kink and fetish to cast the widest net:
Obesity, Bondage, Transgenderism, transhumanism, transformation, demonism, ambiguity, sex trading, and probably others I don’t know.
To be fair, all content is presented tastefully.
The early experience was sensible and straightforward. Getting to later areas and content now requires convoluted item systems that only their Discord community fully understands, since proper wikis and guides aren't maintained.
Some well made stuff is removed.
They've even replaced voice effects with Animal Crossing-style babble during intimate scenes.
It takes 10+ hours to reach basic romance milestones, with heavy grinding for resources. You're stuck with mostly linear storylines, forcing replays to experience different routes.
The recent addition of "NG Candies" currency literally requires multiple playthroughs to unlock content.
That’s alternative monetisation and season pass models.
Physical trading cards with subscriber priority, NFT Items, and content gated behind subscription codes all suggest development priorities have shifted from completing the game to maintaining revenue streams.
Buy and play at your own risk of time investment.
Anyway, here is the story side.
You play as a male knight, default named Anon, in a fantasy world inhabited by various species and run by Princesses.
During a mission with the Kobold kingdom [The lizards type], one of the Dragon Princesses was hording gold coffers in the mines under the kingdom.
In a valiant effort, you defended yourself and defeated the dragon.
But in a fit of rage, Dragon Princess I burned all the gold and stormed out of the area, totalled the kingdom to crumble, forcing the Kobold population to scatter to other kingdoms for refuge.
With nowhere to go, the Kobold Princess become your starting companion. She is very sweet and likable. I have no objections.
The incident also caused some diplomatic tensions as all the kingdoms now no longer see the dragons as ultimate as they portray themselves.
Now there are chances that they will go to war. (Determined by some RNG mechanics.)
You may explore the world and become acquainted with the rulers.
Choose to help one side or battle for peace overall, is up to you.
Beware of corruption. [Demonology path.]
Usnug, the Kobold Princess does become jiggy with you when she levels up over time. Some very sweet cut scenes too.
How to win them over.
You first travel across the realm in every public place to mingle with NPCs. Some will be tempted to pleasure you.
Once you gained enough trust, you can meet the ruler of the kingdom and do personal quests for them to gain their affection.
Eventually, leading to sexual romance.
So far all those romancing is are nicely and tastefully done though.
Some will be willing to join your party if you choose to.
Even the Dragon Princesses I to III are romance-able, but this will lock your game into their paths exclusively.
Gameplay
There is all the RPG bells and whistles. Expect lost of grinding. In many ways.
You travel on foot in the overworld and zoom in on the kingdoms or areas of interest.
Skipping the intro, you will start at Faun's Tavern and Knights Inc to take on basic missions. Later levels will have more convoluted missions to solve.
Its obtuse sometimes
The payout is low, so you might end up boss fighting and lesser mob hunting for Swirlies, the game currency.
There are also specific items you need to travers extreme hot, -cold and ocean areas, which is not easy to get.
The world map has 2 halves, North and South, with Mouse Princess kingdom as the transition hub.
Unfortunately, you must maze through mines, fighting Wendigos and the mountain maze.
You need wings or a dragon or build trust with Mouse Princess to skip the route.
[very lengthy story to clear out the Wendigos and their cursed Princess.]
Its made with RPG Maker VX Ace. I find that baffling at this rate.
An engine designed for simple turn-based RPGs, not complex open-world action games. This creates all sorts of technical problems and clunky mechanics.
Combat is this simple realtime whack the enemy till its gone. Its much faster than Final Fantasy though.
There is this Prodigy mechanic that works like breeding. Egg laying character will give you eggs to hatch into their respectful species.
Mammals need to be bought or comes from the Princesses of those you woo over into your team.
[I can’t confirm any details as this stage takes longer to achieve. I never could get that far in.]

all intimate content is presented tastefully without vulgarity.
There is a different game that’s also a combat and text RPG that is far worse than Princess and Conquest, so id choose this of the lesser evils when it comes to adult games.
