Boxes: Lost Fragments

💬 Review: The Room... only in thinner packaging I was genuinely torn about whether or not to recommend this game. As a long-time fan of The Room series, I couldn't help but measure Boxes: Lost Fragments against that gold standard — and sadly, it falls noticeably short. The most significant issue? It simply has too much of the feel of a shallow clone of The Room. I rarely felt like I had actually solved a puzzle because most of them are so obvious. Rather, it feels more like a seamless journey with few significant challenges or gratifying "Aha" moments. This lacks much of the kind of ingenious mechanical design and painstaking puzzle craftsmanship that made The Room so unique. It appears that quantity has trumped quality. There were very few sections that provided any genuine challenge or feeling of achievement. What does deserve praise: Visually, the game is absolutely stunning. The sound design is immersive and well-crafted. Players unfamiliar with The Room might actually find this to be a fun entry into the genre. But for veterans of the genre, it feels like a tribute that never quite finds its own identity. 🎯 Conclusion I don’t want to discredit the developers because the effort is clear, and there’s real potential here. But to truly shine, the game needs more originality and puzzles with real bite. New to puzzle games? This might be a gentle way in. Fan of The Room? Sadly, this won’t scratch the same itch.

Short game, took me 5 hours, some things were hard but most puzzles were easy. If you like puzzle games and want a cool looking short experience this is nice and sufficient.

This game was a super MIND Tickler hahaha...I loved every second of this. It felt like you were some sort of Tomb Raider unlocking ancient tombs and artifacts...and i can feel parts of my brain just light up! I would love to see more like this or at least another chapter from the same game developer. Will def play this from time to time.

A fun and laid back game for when you're feeling like puzzle games but don't want to think too much! It's designed beautifully and all the intricacies of the boxes looked great. I agree with some reviewers that it came across like trying a little too hard to be like "The Room", especially in the beginning. The little plot would have been more impactful if the premise was slightly different. I really took my time and played between doing chores, so I'd say the actual playtime is more like 2.5h. Overall a lot of potential for a sequel or other similar puzzle games that I'm looking forward to!

Lacking imitation game of "the room". For the 100% it only took 3 hours, and for the price that's pretty poor. Many mechanics were repeated throughout the various puzzles, with 2 colour swapping order of operation puzzles nearly back to back. Very little challenge, used a single hint for entire game, which was just because an interactable environment piece was non obvious. Really felt like the scope was not set high enough. I would realistically say this is worth £5, for potentially 5 hours of content, but full price or even sale price is too much

Very reminiscent of "The Room" series. I do love these steampunk magitek themed puzzle games. The aesthetics make for great visuals and fun puzzles. On a whole, I would consider this easier than "The Room" series. It was usually pretty obvious what you had to do, though a few puzzles did get frustrating. Namely, the "slide stuff around until everything fits, but you only have the 1 free space" kind. The sort where you gotta make your moves in the right sequence or it seems like you're just making things worse. I feel the game relied a bit too heavily on these after awhile and had to use the auto-solve for a couple while many others I just blundered into the solution by accident. The hint system only directs you to your next objective (which can sometimes be difficult to discern). The all or nothing approach to auto-solving may be a turn off for some who might prefer a nudge in the right direction, but still want to figure the majority of a puzzle out for themselves. I speculate one reason for the seemingly lower difficulty is because things were mostly done in sequence rather than getting multiple pieces to multiple puzzles at a time and trying things out to see what fits where. Things proceeded a bit more linearly. All in all, not a bad way to spend 10 bucks on the Steam Summer Sale.

Was a fun game. cool 3d art and variety of puzzles. solved a few unintentionaly. worth picking up if your looking to play "The Room" like games.

Not the best at playing these types of games but loved playing it even if I had to use the 'skip puzzle' sometimes. Loved the visuals

This game is very beautiful, it separates you from reality with puzzles, similar to the Room .

Fairly short, can be beaten in just a few hours, but a pleasant little brain teaser.

This is a great little puzzle box/escape room game! I like that there's a story you are trying to figure out that drives all the puzzles, instead of just puzzles for puzzles' sake. Level theming is done really well. I definitely got stuck a few places missing a small detail so keep your eyes peeled for small stuff!

it took me like 5h to finish, its a really good game i loved it - I recommend it buy it without hesitation

Pretty easy game to complete, but I enjoyed the art. If you're looking for a puzzle/escape room fix this is a game for you

great puzzle game, not to hard and not to easy, couple of bugs, great environment's as always with their games.

It was a fun game taking about 4 hours to complete. I agree with some of the negative reviews in that you often get a piece or clue and then immediately use it, so it isn't too difficult. There were a few times I did get stuck for a bit but nothing too crazy. Overall, I enjoyed it, think it is a fun game, but it also isn't too challenging.

It is just a fun game. The graphics were creative. Most puzzles were medium difficulty with only a couple being hard to figure out. Some parts were super easy.

It's gorgeous, delightful and ingenious. Perhaps not as difficult as "Room" but very entertaining.

Cute. None of the puzzles are very hard but its an interesting 5-6 hours
