I love this game, but the state of this game's balance and it's update frequency is simply embarrassing at this point. Problematic characters are running the meta (and ruining your fun) for months on end, update after update passes with not a single touch to balance despite widespread community outcry. Developer communication has also all but ceased, despite promises being made months ago This would have been such an easy recommendation otherwise, but I simply cannot stand what the developer is (not) doing to one of my favourite games of all time anymore. Please take care of your game ArcSys, there's a good reason pro players leaving is an almost weekly occurrence at this point.

Literally my actual favorite game of all time. Like this is and has been my literal hyperfixation for over a year now, and frankly the only complaint I have as of right now is that balance patches are rather rare, and that I don't have a character that fits my particular playstyle at the moment (but I think the addition of Lucy may change that (hopefully)). All in all, literally a ten outta ten game, fantastic in my opinion, and frankly even with the balancing issues, I think that even my fellow Strive-heads love it... which is why half of us are so upset at the imbalances rn... but wtv. Awesome game, you should one hundred percent get it.

The game is great in every fashion. The animation is beautifully stylistic, and is so well done you can tell they put love into it. The story is the most mixed part for me. Whilst it's extremely in depth, and well made, it's just VERY complicated. Everything down to the colour of someones left fucken toenail could have a story that's at least 3 novels long. While it's good, it's just quite a lot, and it makes no sense to a lot of folks or may be hard to understand. The music is just chefs kiss. It's so well done, so god damn good and I can't help but have it on repeat constantly. Eat glue and kick ass.

Love this game but it has the worst online matchmaking that mankind has ever created. If you plan on playing online a lot find a different game with working online matchmaking.

GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- marks a striking evolution in the long-running franchise, delivering a visually stunning and mechanically deep fighting game experience that appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Developed by Arc System Works, Strive refines the series’ signature blend of fast-paced, combo-heavy gameplay with accessibility improvements that lower the barrier to entry without sacrificing the complexity that competitive players crave. The game’s robust roster features a diverse cast of characters, each with unique fighting styles, movesets, and personalities, ensuring a rich variety of playstyles and matchups. The introduction of new mechanics, such as the revamped “Wall Break” and the simplified “Roman Cancel” system, adds strategic layers to combat while streamlining execution for smoother gameplay flow. Visually, GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- is a masterpiece of cel-shaded animation that pushes the limits of 2.5D graphics with beautifully detailed character models, dynamic lighting, and fluid animations that make every attack and special move feel impactful and cinematic. The stages are vibrant and full of personality, further immersing players in the game’s eclectic world, which blends heavy metal aesthetics with anime-inspired designs. Complementing the visuals is an electrifying soundtrack composed by series veteran Daisuke Ishiwatari, whose heavy metal and rock tracks perfectly capture the game’s intense energy and style, enhancing the adrenaline rush of each battle. The game excels in its balance between accessibility and depth. Tutorials and training modes are thoughtfully designed to introduce new players to the nuances of Guilty Gear’s mechanics, while ranked matches and online modes cater to competitive veterans with precise netcode that delivers smooth, lag-free matches. The rollback netcode implementation is a particular highlight, ensuring a fair and responsive online experience that is critical for the fighting game community. Additionally, the robust story mode provides a compelling narrative experience with beautifully animated cutscenes and voice acting that adds emotional weight to the characters and their motivations, a rare treat in fighting games. Despite these strengths, some players have noted that the pacing of matches can feel slower compared to previous entries, with a greater emphasis on spacing and tactical play over relentless aggression. This shift may take some adjustment, especially for fans accustomed to the franchise’s historically frenetic pace. Additionally, while the roster is well-balanced, a few characters can dominate the competitive scene, requiring ongoing patches and community adaptation. Overall, GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- is a triumph that revitalizes the series with a perfect blend of eye-popping visuals, thrilling combat, and thoughtful design choices. It respects the franchise’s roots while boldly pushing it forward, making it one of the most accessible yet deeply rewarding fighting games available today. Whether you’re a casual player looking to enjoy stylish brawls or a competitive fighter seeking a nuanced, high-skill experience, GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- delivers an electrifying and unforgettable ride through the world of high-octane, heavy-metal-inspired combat.v Rating: 8/10

Easy to get into for new players and is really fun to play. Easy to pick up for quick dumb fun. Wish the combat was like Rev 2, but it's not bad by any means. Plus it's cool you get a free game with the soundtrack.

It feels weird to say that I enjoyed all the DLC for this game more than the main one, sure you have Faust and May but basically all my favorite characters were thrown in as DLC this time round. So it's a shame I had to wait so long to positively review this. Outside of that, I love the combat, it's the best in the series by far even if I'm still terrible at the game, and all the arcade modes are super fun to experiences, also great finally seeing full confirmation about Bridgets Identity!
This is the best fighting game you will ever touch!
No other fighting game comes close in terms of quality, and I don't think I can ever return to a different fighting game again. The game perfectly toes the line between Street Fighter, and traditional anime fighters. Game is super beginner friendly, and there's a character for every skill level.
The roster
Every character has their own charm, personality and fighting style. No two characters feel cloned or unoriginal. There is a character for everyone. Want to play a sorcerer that just plays MTG in the duel? We've got you covered. Do you want to play as a pirate/samurai/cowboy wannabe that, despite being armed with only a katana, is considered a zoner? Do you want to play 8 ball in your matches? Do you want to play as LITERALLY god and fight with nothing more than a trusty revolver to severely handicap yourself? Sign me up. The character design is also top-notch. Who knew putting belts on everyone could look so nice? [strike] also jack o is hot af [/strike] Animations are also beautiful. The 3D models for everything and the unique Guilty Gear style of cel shading just scratches a certain itch that I didn't even know I had.
The OST
Music is extraordinary. This game has the only soundtrack of any game I've ever played that I've actively listened to, even if the lyrics can get a bit [cough cough] "nonsensical". Somehow Daisuke manages to make every theme both appealing and fit their respective character. If you're skeptical of the price tag, it is 1000% justified. If you're looking for the best fighting game of all time, THIS IS IT.

Best fresh air in my recent experience with fighting games. Bright, and colorful characters with satisfying and snappy attacks, scratch the right spots in my brain. The fans in is game are super nice and humble, who truly want you to be apart of the community. Plenty of content to indulge yourself with. Super fun, I cant wait to learn about the story and lore behind the games and the wonderful devs who polish this game every month.

Guilty Gear Strive has one of the lowest skill floors I've seen in a fighting game while simultaneously having a skill ceiling taller then the Tower of Babel. Also I like when the funny dude says "Gunflame!"

Genuinely one of the most well put together and polished video games I've played. It's beautiful, it oozes passion, the characters are very well designed and each one feels distinct and has their own thing they're doing. If you've never played a fighting game and would like to, play this one for sure. Guilty Gear my beloved <3

Doodoo, poopy ahh balance and it's been like this for a while, and it seems like it's going to stay that way even after they add the actual ranked mode. If someone sees this and is thinking of giving it a try, do not play the game seriously and do not hit the tower, it's not worth it. Just go to the park And only get the game if there's art least more than one character that you REALLY want to play, which is my case and the only reason I haven't uninstalled this yet

It's a great game but holy shit do NOT play online - an amount of ping that was supposedly Eight rollback frames caused... My entire game ending combo to get reversed, getting somehow grabbed out of the meaty I started it with, and losing the round because of it So, at least an entire second rolled back into an outcome that shouldn't have been possible in the first place, off what was supposed to be eight frames max To reiterate - the game itself is AMAZING, and if you can get a round with a connection in... about the same room as you? You'll never notice that kind of issue Also like This is a necessary evil - it's just that sometimes it ends up moving the advantage from the player with the better connection to the one with worse

In a Sea of Unique Anime fighting games, Strive stands out as the Most Vanilla Game of them all. This game is universally recognized as the Baseline for if you want to get into anime fighting games, And for good reason. It’s probably the simplest game to learn and is very Welcoming to new players. But don’t get fooled like I did, I had someone once tell me That strive was a Neutral based game. They were completely incorrect. If anyone tells you That strive is “Neutral based”, they are Either High or Stupid (In my case it’s certainly the latter). The amount of Characters that have neutral skips is baffling. Strive has also made me do something that I haven’t done in any other fighting game, Pick up multiple characters at a time. Right now I’m playing 3 characters, Sol, Sin and Axl and I’m interested in picking up Johnny as my fourth. Every character in this game is so unique and brimming with personality that I can’t help but want to play them all. This game is truly amazing, even with its simplicity there is still a lot more to discover underneath the simple surface. Games great 8/10

DRAGON INSTALL! Recomendo 100%

This game is soo fun, most will say it's not worth your time but I genuinely love it. I may suck at it, I have a 60 lose streak but I always hit rematch and so does my opponent. Sure I'm constantly losing but it's soo fun, I keep coming back. And Bridget it soo darn cute I keep coming so I can main her, she's one of the main reasons why I keep on playing.

It is extremely fun game even if you are not into fighters. - So many wide variety of characters. - It is not hard to do BnB combos in the game. - Missions can teach you how to be decent or good in the game. - You don't need to open Youtube or any web to learn any combo. All you need to do is just open select Dojo in the game's Menu screen and then select Combo Search, where you can see various characters' combos. - The anime visuals of the game is very beautiful especially if you love anime series like One Piece or DBZ. I have a great feeling that you will enjoy GG Strive once you purchase it and then download and play it.

The music is also SUPERB, I listen to it everyday and never once get tired of it. :D

I don't think GGST is a bad game, but I just could not get anywhere with it, I am way to use to UNI where the combos are a mile long and this game it just felt like I could never confirm into combos unless I was in a corner or do long big combos which is what I love, I just struggled to like anyone and could not find a character for me. Also just did not love the wall breaking cause it felt like I could not always do my corner combos if the wall had too much damage, I don't think this is a bad game and I see how it has such love for it but it is not my type of fighting game clearly cause even the feel of the controls felt wrong. I just dislike playing it too much to play it more or recommend it.

Despite being a relatively 'new' GG player, from the days of xrd rev 2, i feel this game is in an interesting position. Having been originally an SF player, i am not entirely against the new feel of the game. However looking at it from the lens of what GG originally is and was for many years, it sure it isn't entirely faithful to alot of the mechanics that made the game stand out. Thus as a whole, I would give it a close 7/10, as this indicates a good attempt by the creators to innovate as the game itself is not bad, however the things that made acpr and xrd succesful (xrd was already slowing down the pace of combat) gave the game's signature. Thus the remaining 3/10 that this review loses is for losing a part of that charm. It is still a GG game in relation to the character mechanics, key gameplay elements, but as noted by hardcore GG fans, it is definetly a watered down game in the world of GG.

An abseloutely beautiful game, you can tell the artists were paid well, i'm not really a fan of fighting games but this one i genuinely cannot put down, I've been a guilty gear fan for ages, also my fav character is Testament and Happy Chaos, everything is so well animated and the scenery is just amazing, it has an endless amount of combos to learn too which I really like, Each character has a unique design and personality, and their own story you can go through, and even when your stuck offline fighting CPU it still manages to be fun, everything about this game is just so unique

Finally learning fighting games. This is the game that teaches you all. Throw in some of the most hype music and "true" anime rendering style, the most unique and diverse IP and very satisfying game-specific mechanics, like wall breaks, RC and Instant Block and you have a hell of a package, that will keep you engaged for very long, I suppose. I got this game in preparation to 2XKO, now I am not even sure if 2XKO will be able to keep up with this master piece. To the toxic players: be aware, you can only blame yourself when losing. So if you are looking for a game to blame others, this is not the game for you. Hi hi. Ho Ho. Ciao.
