Awesome. Another case of reviews selling this game short, glad I took the chance while it was on sale. Fantastic action RPG roguelike. The animation is buttery smooth, expressive, and charming, in classic Klei style. The gameplay is smooth as well, and hits and combos feel satisfying. The local co-op is solid, despite the janky progression. The roguelite progression is decent so far, but I have a feeling it's about to open up a lot more once I progress this next quest. Just felt the need to throw my hat into the ring, as the reviews did NOT do this game justice. It's fantastic. If you're looking for a solid local co-op game, this is one of them. No regrets here.

Gameplay is great. Lot of grinding, but it's really fun to upgrade the difficulty and get meaningful rewards. Art style is phenomenal, typical of Klei.

Rotwood ---------------------------- It’s got that tight, satisfying combat that just feels right every hit lands with weight, and dodging at the last second is awesome. The art style is super clean to kinda cartoony but still gritty in a cool way. (like most of this companies art in their games) The roguelike loop is addicting. You go in, get your loot, get smacked by some giant frog-thing, and then immediately want to jump back in. It’s got that “just one more run” energy in the best (and worst) way possible. The gear system’s simple but rewarding, and the upgrade paths make you feel like you’re actually progressing, not just grinding for the sake of it. Rotwood’s got charm, challenge, and a whole lot of angry mushrooms. Enjoy the game!

The artstyle and animations are godly, the style perfectly conveying the whimsy of the set up, and going around and fighting in it is such a simple pleasure to enjoy. A wide variety of different unique builds, some pieces of gear adding something completely new, while some connecting to allow you to experience something familiar and constant as well, depending on what you'd prefer at any time. The fighting mechanics reward you for putting in effort and memorizing techniques, rather than just doing combos over and over again like most games would, you actually feel like wielding a weapon, as there are quite a few different ways to put it to use (except the bow that one's kinda boring). There is a slight issue with making the most effective way of playing a boring one, by which is just spamming easy attacks safely, given it is far more important to not get damage rather than getting damage in, however; even though one could ignore that and make it harder on themselves on purpose to have more fun, but one shouldn't have to. On top of that, some enemies have too high a travel speed, especially when they begin to fill up the screen, locked onto your position just a quarter of a second before hitting, resulting in some battles just being you running away from enemies chasing you down and covering the entire screen in damage hitboxes, leaving you little opportunity to fight back, which is very lame. There is very little use to the heavy class compared to the lighter ones too. The game definitely has its issues that may never be fixed, but it's definitely still worth it. Always loved it when weapons and armor and gear could be made out of vanquished enemies, making me feel resourceful and giving the most practical explanation for the gear's existence and its effects. You get to make your own cozy little camp and fill it with fun little characters too, which is a nice tiny break. Offers plenty of gameplay for many hours especially for ones who enjoy grinding for upgrading gear, and being able to do it in multiplayer is also a huge bonus for many. The style of the effects and animations is satisfying and very clear too, making the gameplay feel smooth and surefooted. Amazing game, highly recommend it.

Very fun game, love the art style and combat. Feels very fluid. Hope they add more to the game, i.e. more weapons more combo moves, more enemy variety, and qol. This is also just an idea that I think would be cool to see in the game, pets. I think it would be so cool to have pets that just look cool and follow you around. They wouldn't have to do anything. I also think it would be nice to have bit better menus when managing equipment. It visually looks fine, but it can be frustrating trying to get to the different types of armor, or to a different weapon by closing then reopening menus. I have more to say, but no one will probably read this, so :P Very fun, would recommend. Klei, continue working on this game, look forward to dlc and you've got me hooked. :3

Please allow steamdeck to zoom in a little in game. The art is so sharp during cutscenes, but is blurry during normal gameplay :/ Also, pls let us scale the UI and Text Size. This could easily be a perfect steamdeck game. For now, i wont recommend for steamdeck. The art is a blur and theres no 800p support. The game is well done tho. Updated review to rec. I hope the UI and size of the game field can be updated to give us options.
