I always like to come back to this one for a quick game. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's cute, has good gameplay, nice art, and runs on basically everything.

Awesome game! Very deep tactical card game - and I love what you did with the replayability!

LOVE this game. The art is beautiful, the music is great (repetitive but personally I don't get sick of it - suits the game and hypes me up) The card combos are endless, charms add a load of fun ways to boost your characters' skills and when you win a run it feels rewarding every time. I think down-voting this game for it's difficulty is unfair, I think the challenge is the whole point? You get the hang of how best to play the cards and what strategies to use against different enemies, unlocking new cards/charms to improve at the game. You lose and lose and lose until you get the hang of it, and once you do, it's even more enjoyable and satisfying, and that feels like the aim of this game, to improve and progress a little further each run until you can get to the end (and then do it all over again!) I don't normally leave reviews but feel like Wildfrost should be praised for it's difficulty and it's just super fun and addictive. DID I MENTION THE ART STYLE <3

This game is so damn hard. Lol how do people win. I try different strats with different decks and I just can't do much of anything. I've gotten to the end area most times, but how are you supposed to kill the 999 HP boss? There's literally no way. Lol I'm probably just bad. Though I will say, the game is super luck based. It's not the best mechanic, but not the worst either. My skill issue aside, the game is really fun. I love trying the decks and combining different ways to use them. I will say, I would love more variety with the decks. I like the 3 themes, but I would love to see a lot more. It'll keep it fresh and open up more options. That being said... 6/10. Give it a shot.

TLDR - The different mechanic is enjoyable and challenging. I almost didn't buy this because the number of reviews wasn't super high and steamdb rating is okay but not near StS/Balatro ratings. Good thing I just followed my gut when I saw the gameplay. If you liked Slay the Spire, stop looking at other reviews and just buy this game. Game Feel: - Cards having a "countdown" which determine when they attack is really nice. Makes you plan ahead and think about the execution. This makes it feel that the combat is just as important as the deckbuilding. - I like having different characters as cards with their own lives and attacks. This is common in some other card games (e.g. hearthstone, MTG, etc.). Combining this (both your team and enemies) with the attack countdown gives this a completely different feel than StS which is a good thing instead of just being an StS clone. - I see a lot of comments about it being hard. It is challenging but so far it hasn't discouraged me in my gameplay. Other Comments: - Game feels polished. - ✔ - Sound is on point. - ✔ - Info and details are well labeled - ✔ Note: I'll have to play more to see how good the balancing is and the card variation, but just wanted to post a review because I think the rating should be a lot higher for this game.

It's like Monster Train with the added benefit of sequencing and board control. Great game-feel. Same balancing problems.. Card pool is extremely limited and synergistic sets typically come with the same 'tribe' style. So, you know the kind of package you're picking out of 3-5 available units for each of the 3-5 gimmicks depending on how you categorise them. This is the point of contention - there's too few cards and doubly so for the enemy. Each battle encounter will have one of two enemy deck variants for that stage, coming into play near identical every time. You'd have seen 90% of the game in single digit hours. Definitely more enjoyable than Slay the Spire, to me. I'd dare say, better than Monster Train. There's just very little variety or mods. You're trying to set up combos and maintain board control. All-while, managing both enemy attack and wave counters by delaying, negating or accelerating them. Cool twist is - you're free to shuffle your entire board around and return companions back to deck at any point. As well as, upgrading your cards during the course of a run with charm attachments. Which'll provide an additional keyword effect or stat change. For the cultured card-tusiasts: This could be the baby version of Lightseekers and Might & Magic: Duel of Champions

GENERAL OVERVIEW Wildfrost is an amazing gem of a roguelite deckbuilder that stands tall alongside the other titans in the genre! The level of depth is surprising, given how seemingly simple it is at a glance. It's a game I continue to come back to, only to discover a new interaction that I hadn't thought of or seen before. Not to mention the game is oozing with charm and polish from tip to tail! And don't even get me started on the music... The goal is to kill the enemy boss before they kill your leader card, and you do so by playing companion cards or item cards from your hand. You can modify both companions and items with charms, which add an effect or alter the card's base stats, giving the player a lot of agency over how they choose to build their deck. Wildfrost is tough but fair, and losses almost always are avoidable. This is why some veterans say the game is easy; with enough game knowledge, you can win very often. Getting to that point, however, takes time, and you'll definitely get...bamboozled...a few times along the way. PROGRESSION Wildfrost has an achievement-based unlock system, where you can obtain new cards or charms by completing certain tasks. These achievements can get pretty creative, and some will definitely take multiple attempts to find the right things at the right time. Whenever you win a run, every card in your deck, as well as your active companions, will obtain a new card frame (either "chiseled" if you beat the final boss or "golden" if you beat the secret final boss). This gives those with a completionist's heart something to work towards, even after getting every achievement and seeing nearly every corner of the game. As a bonus, it also incentivises you to try and win with companions or items you normally ignore, which keeps the game fun and refreshing! ENDGAME CONTENT Wildfrost has its own ascension system that functions similar to Heat in Hades, where you increase the difficulty by selecting from 13 different modifiers, each with varying levels of intensity. They range from mildly annoying to super fun, so pick your poison! The max level is 10, at which point you will be able to fight the secret final boss. And for those who like a challenge, you can unlock an "overcranked" mode, where you play with all modifiers at once (level 22). This is a huge challenge, though with experience, you'll still be able to get wins pretty often. FINAL THOUGHTS Make no mistake, whether you're a Slay the Spire veteran, or have never tried a deckbuilder before, Wildfrost has a lot to offer you. This is definitely my favorite roguelite deckbuilder, and one of my favorite games full stop. Don't sleep on this gem!

Great roguelike deckbuilder with short and sometimes punishing, but highly enjoyable runs.

An amazing, cozy hidden gem of the roguelike deckbuilder subgenre. A fantastic continuation, taking lessons and mechanics in recent hits and taking them a little further, with all the charm and competence someone could ever want. The art-style is rich and adorable, with characters you are bound to fall in love with. Not only that, but the thematic elements in the art design of the game is tied together by the gameplay for an extremely cohesive and cozy experience. The story is excellent, but it's never in the way. The gameplay - from mechanics to sound design, all is ridiculously satisfying. I love Wildfrost, but I get too attached to my cards to sacrifice them at the end!
🎴 Wildfrost – A Strategic Gem with Heart and Challenge
⭐ 10/10 – Would absolutely play again!

✅ What I loved:
• RNG feels fair and manageable – very few “doomed from the start” runs • Great mix of deckbuilding and roguelike freshness • Cute art style with super polished animations • Pause anytime, even mid-fight – such a quality-of-life win! • You genuinely feel yourself getting better with each run • The decision to split the card pool into 3 tribes was brilliant – adds so much replayability • As a card game lover, I had an absolute blast

🧠 My journey:
Had Wildfrost on my list since release, and I finally gave it the time it deserved. I spent about 18 hours reaching the "true" ending. It felt a bit grindy near the end, but I’m glad I saw it through. The challenge is real—but fair—and that made every run feel meaningful.

🤏 A few minor gripes:
• Some archetypes feel noticeably stronger than others • Occasionally frustrating when the cards you want don’t show up → But that actually led to some unexpected combos that worked out surprisingly well 😄 • The endgame grind for the finale might not be for everyone

🎮 Who should play this?
If you enjoy: • Deckbuilding • Roguelikes • Tactical turn-based decision-making • Games that reward learning and adaptation Then Wildfrost will absolutely click with you.

💭 Final thoughts:
This game respects your time, your intelligence, and your love of strategy. Even if I don’t keep playing beyond this point (my backlog is calling 😅), I'm really glad I experienced this game. Highly recommend it for any fan of card games and roguelikes.
