セイバー、貴方を愛している。
In the summer of 2015, I fell in love with Saber.
I first watched and played Fate/stay night about 10 years ago, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I instantly fell in love with Saber—a king of knights based on King Arthur, also known as Artoria Pendragon. Saber is truly a tragic character, yet she is dignified, regal, and unwavering in her quest to obtain the Holy Grail.
I've played my fair share of visual novels and watched my fair share of anime. When I say Fate/stay night is one of the best visual novels ever written, I don’t say it lightly. This remake is an excellent homage to the original. Don’t be mistaken—THIS IS A NOVEL.
It’s massive. This game is as long as the King James Bible—approximately 820,000 words—so take your time and enjoy the journey.
The Fate series revolves around the Holy Grail War, where Masters summon and command Servants—heroic spirits inspired by real-world history and legend. The winner receives the Holy Grail, a magical artifact capable of granting any wish.
Shirou Emiya is Saber's Master (and in my opinion, her true love interest). Though both Saber and Shirou are flawed, they complement each other in meaningful ways. The Fate route is a story of acceptance—letting go of past regrets and ideals, and choosing to move forward. It’s about laying down the sword—not in defeat, but in peace. In accepting that we cannot change the past, we find the strength to live with pride.
“There are no regrets. If one can be proud of one’s life, one should not wish for another chance.” – Saber
The other routes, focusing on Rin and Sakura, are also powerful and carry their own thematic weight. Each heroine’s path acts as a mirror for Shirou’s beliefs and personal growth.
Fate: True strength is not in perfection or regret, but in acceptance and love. You don’t need to be a perfect hero to have a meaningful life. (Shirou and Saber)
Unlimited Blade Works: It’s not wrong to have ideals—but they must be chosen consciously, not inherited blindly. Your beliefs are only worth following if they are truly your own. (Shirou and Rin)
Heaven’s Feel: Rejecting abstract ideals to protect someone you love, even at the cost of the greater good. (Shirou and Sakura)
Together, the three routes form a complete exploration of what it means to live authentically, love deeply, and be human.
See you in Avalon, Saber.
Overall, I highly recommend this game. 10/10.
