I'll be honest, I don't like Age of Empires that much... but I LOVE this game. The flavor and variety between the different pantheons and even the major and minor gods and powers are SO much fun. The Devs pay close attention to community feedback and are constantly tweaking and adjusting things, big and small, to make the game more enjoyable. Tbh I suck at it, but man is it a good time.

First time I launched this remake I though ,,Wow, not much has change since original, it looks exactly the same". Then I actually played old version and holy the new graphics are so amazing. They somehow managed to make this game look and feel exactly as I remembered from my childhood days, which is not easy task since lets be honest, to a child any game looks like wonder. They also improved many game-play aspects, so not only does this new version of Age of Mythology looks amazing, its also great to play. 100% recommend this game, I cant wait for future pantheons to be added (fingers crossed for Aztecs at some point).

Age of Mythology: Retold masterfully revives the beloved 2002 classic, blending the timeless gameplay that made the original a favorite with modern graphical upgrades and thoughtful quality-of-life improvements. Visually, the game is transformed with richly detailed high-definition models, dynamic lighting, and realistic environmental effects that breathe new life into the ancient mythological world. Units, buildings, and especially mythical creatures like Hydras and Titans are rendered with striking textures and fluid animations, giving battles a vibrant and epic feel. While some may find the art style leans slightly toward a more polished, cartoonish look compared to the original’s classic charm, this update largely succeeds in immersing both veterans and newcomers in a breathtaking strategic arena. Underneath the enhanced visuals, Retold deepens the strategic experience with several gameplay enhancements that elevate late-game dynamics and overall flow. The increased population cap and the reworked god power system—introducing cooldowns instead of one-time uses—add fresh layers of tactical decision-making, allowing for more sustained and varied strategies. Additionally, quality-of-life improvements such as improved unit pathfinding, auto-scouting, and streamlined villager controls greatly reduce micro-management frustration and help maintain game pace without sacrificing depth. However, despite these strides, some minor AI pathfinding quirks persist, reminding players that perfect refinement in real-time strategy is elusive. The core civilizations—Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantean—remain beautifully distinct, each offering unique units, economy styles, and god power trees that encourage diverse playstyles. The extensive campaign content from the original and its expansions, including The Golden Gift and New Atlantis, is faithfully preserved and enhanced, delivering more than 50 missions rich in narrative and challenge. Although the highly anticipated Chinese civilization from Tale of the Dragon is absent at launch, plans for its addition signal ongoing support and content growth that fans can look forward to. Audio enhancements complement the visual overhaul, featuring a fully re-orchestrated soundtrack that heightens the mythic atmosphere and vibrant, context-sensitive sound effects. The voice acting, however, receives mixed feedback, with some performances lacking the emotional depth and consistency that made the original cutscenes memorable. Multiplayer sees welcome improvements as well, with seamless cross-platform play between PC and Xbox and continued support for modding and custom map creation, sustaining the community-driven longevity of the franchise. In summary, Age of Mythology: Retold stands as a shining example of how to modernize a cherished classic without losing its heart. It successfully balances nostalgia with innovation, offering refined mechanics, stunning visuals, and expanded content that together create a rich, engaging real-time strategy experience. While not without minor flaws, this remaster is a must-play for both longtime fans longing to revisit their favorite mythological battlegrounds and newcomers eager to discover one of the genre’s most inventive and enduring titles. Game-play is smooth and the updated graphics are fantastic. I love the rock-paper-scissors mechanic of human v. myth-unit v. hero unit. The only major downside (for me at least) is the voice acting in the campaign is not as great as it was in the original (though the VA for Arkantos came back and did fantastic) but that isn't as big of a deal with mods.

Beautiful RTS game. Works well in my machine and OS (prior win 10, now ubuntu). If you are fan of making mix of monster/human armies, you like greek/egyptian/nordic/chinese/japanese soon mythology, then this is the game for you. My only complain is the new team torn off the (mild/ my first) gore the game originally have: Skeletons, blood, corpses and decaying corpses evolution; nothing way to graphic and definetly no dismemberments where present in the original, so it was reasonable.

Alright, basically TLDR: I love what they changed in visuals and AI enhancements and other gameplay tweaks..... except the voice acting. The new voice acting is actually trash. Luckily, there is a mod to go back to original voice acting (thank goodness). ***************************** I absolutely love almost everything they changed in Age of Mythology Retold. The visuals are gorgeous, the UI is much better, the new cheat codes are hilarious, and all the tweaks to the gameplay feel fantastic. They really put a lot of love into updating this classic, and it shows in almost every area. But oh boy, the voice acting… The new voice acting is actually trash. There is no other way to put it nicely. It sounds flat, lifeless, and painfully generic compared to the original, which had so much character and personality. I honestly have no idea how this made it through any sort of quality control when everything else got such a thoughtful upgrade. It feels like they blew the budget on visuals and then phoned in the VO at the last minute. Luckily, there is a mod to bring back the original voices (thank goodness), because without it I don’t think I could have played this with a straight face. I have high hopes for the upcoming Japan campaign, but I am praying the voice acting is better, or I will be very sad.

Age of Mythology: Retold is a welcome update to the original, which was already a very good game. As a new player to the RTS genre, I love this game—even though it's quite hard for me to get used to the fast-paced gameplay and the micromanagement of units and buildings. I can't wait to try out the new DLCs!

Age of Mythology has always been my favorite age game by a large gap, i am overjoyed that this ws released and that new content will be coming for it. Hopefully this will make way for Age Of Mythology 2. May or may not be hoping for the Celtic pantheons.

I wrote this game off at first because I was pretty butthurt about the voice acting absolutely ruining my nostalgia trip. I play the original Age of Mythology through almost yearly, and I was very much looking forward to the visual updates expected with this game. However, after coming back and giving this game another chance (and downloading the mod to restore the original voice acting), I've come to appreciate some of the changes they've made. Without getting into the weeds about it, the game truly feels like it's gotten QoL improvements from people that genuinely care about the game and how well it plays. They're intelligent and fun to play. I recommend a real try at this for people that are veterans like me because it really does freshen up a game that I grew up with.

Nostalgic!!! Just as good as i remember, but WISHED TO THE GODS that the chinese DLC would never have been released, they are just not right for this game according to me. Instead they should have focused on the others gods and PERHAPS even more new campaigns for Greek, Egypt, Norse and Atlanteans. But i know that is just wishful thinking :(

An absolute titan among real time strategy games. One of my favorite sound tracks of all time as well. I'm very impressed with this remaster. It runs very well and is very faithful to the original release. The graphics are beautiful and doesn't really destroy the art style. The new and improved Chinese pantheon is really fun and fit perfectly with the others. Freyer is a fantastic addition to the Norse pantheon as well. I haven't touched the Chinese campaign, so I can't say if it's good yet, but the faction itself is really nice to play. The original Chinese pantheon just felt kinda bland and I wasn't all that interested in it. They did a fantastic job of remaking it. If you're new, this is the best version to buy. If you loved the original, you'll fall in love with this no doubt. One of the best RTS since Age of Empires 2, in my opinion. I do sometimes miss the original voice for Athena, and I think the tutorial mission was a bit cooler in the OG, but I can see why they'd change them and it doesn't detract from how great this remaster is. Definitely worth a buy.

One of the best RTS games I've ever played and I've played many. The amount of content you get for $50 for the premium edition is like nothing you see today with modern games. It feels almost unfair how good value it is. I hope they continue to add more campaign DLC because I'll keep coming back for more.

It's a classic remade for the modern era with a ton of QoL improvements over the last iteration, and they're releasing updates with it. There are a ton of new major and minor gods, myth units, and 2 extra civilisations over the final update of the first game. Kinda wild.

Bought the expansion on sale for like 16 bucks. I definitely thing it's more suited towards the middle of the 10-euro range. The campaign feels a bit rushed story-wise, but the heroes, gods, and units of the chinese are fun. The favoured terrain thing is a neat additon, but aside from feeling a bit weird, at first glance it's a little off-putting to have to build buildings in a long conga line from the town center. Overall fun, though!

Id say get on sale but if youre finding yourself REALLY enjoying the game for more than 20 hours and dont see yourself getting stale, get it at full price as it is mostly worth it, the amount of new mechanics/buildings and units let alone the new theme makes it all a worthy upgrade to the base game for a few sheckles, or what is basically now the same price as a decent sized meal from any take out place. in other words, its good!
Still Love It, But…
Oh great, Japanese mythology again — because clearly the world doesn’t have enough games with samurai, yokai, and kimono wearing people. Still adore the game ‘cause it’s my childhood after all. But another pantheon after this, like the Aztecs at least? Probably too much effort for them. Pulling the plug on this game feels like a matter of time anyway, since the player count is already low enough.

ive been a fan of this game since way back in the day of its orginal launch but recently ive been put off by its constant patchs and updates, making 1 civ more and more op. of course im talking about egyptians, such things as the petsuchos, the longest range unit in the entire game with the ability to complelty ignore hack or pierce armor, 5 of thses and a small front line and youve outright won the game, nothing can break through this combo. not to mention for a age 3 myth they are stupidly cheap otheres such as the camel rider; no other civs calvery id good againt 2 diffrent types of units. however the damn things are good agisnt archers which is sandard for calvery but also for some reason, good againt their counter in the form of the greek proromos. this game can be such fun, but when people are just spamming op units it just ruins the game.

This game is a poor example of remake done wrong and also with non-existent quality control feedback. To put it bluntly, The amount of bugs may exceed the actual playable game content. Even if you are super casual, you can easily find a dozen of bugs in you first few hours of your play. If you really like the aesthetics, you maybe like me to care enough to report bugs and discuss on forum to cope that fix will come one day. Wrong. Each patch brings more unattended new bugs. However, know that the devs either don't have enough resources to fix them or don't care enough to fix a sold flawed product. This is a prime failure of multiple companies working on a same game without acknowledging accountability to paying customers. Avoid it at all(a small) cost. --------From an AOM lover since original with great patience and even greater disappointment.

I loved this game as a kid, and I reallyyyyy want to love it now... but I just can't. The setting is sick, civilisations have fantastic differences, but the actual gameplay and strategy? The weaknesses/strengths of units etc? Ugh. Not good. If you're a casual or a pro, go for gold, all others? Leave it to the LAN nights if you've got no other AoE options

Rating: ★★★★★ "Age of Mythology" is a masterpiece that seamlessly blends real-time strategy with rich mythological storytelling. As a long-time fan of the game, I can confidently say that it offers an unparalleled gaming experience that keeps you engaged for hours on end. The game's mechanics are intuitive yet deep, allowing players to build their civilizations, gather resources, and engage in epic battles. The unique aspect of invoking the gods adds a fascinating layer to strategy, as each deity offers distinct powers and myth units that can turn the tide of battle. Whether you prefer the Greek, Egyptian, or Norse pantheon, each god brings a unique flavor and strategy to the game. The graphics, even by today's standards, are charming and beautifully crafted, immersing you in a world filled with stunning landscapes and intricate details. The sound design and music further enhance the atmosphere, making every battle and exploration feel epic. The campaigns are well-written and engaging, filled with memorable characters and mythological lore that draws you into the narrative. The multiplayer mode is equally enjoyable, allowing you to challenge friends or players worldwide, adding to the game's longevity. Overall, "Age of Mythology" is not just a game; it's a journey through ancient myths and legends. Whether you're a seasoned strategist or a newcomer to the genre, this game is a must-play. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a captivating blend of strategy, mythology, and adventure!

I loved this game when it first came out because I was super casual and only played offline vs AI back then. I had a ton of fun with the Titans and mythic units. That's what I was thinking when I bought this game. Maybe I'll play campaign, enjoy the nostalgia, and maybe play a few pvp games. No amount of nostalgia can help me overcome how clunky this game feels, especially coming from AOE4. I'm going to keep trying to play and hope that something clicks, because otherwise I wasted $50 on it (I was optimistic and thought I'd want the expansions...).

Age of Mythology: Retold is a huge improvement from the previous Extended version. God powers are now reusable at a hefty cost of Favor. The 100 Favor limit (200 for Zeus players) has been removed in the Retold version to make up for this big change. Everything is very similar balance wise, with the exception of the Chinese faction, as they have gotten a huge rework from the original Extended version. Plus, the Chinese campaign is drastically different from the previous version and is orders of magnitude better. It is very good that the Norse now have ranged units and heroes to cover their aerial weaknesses. However, with Retold comes another major problem that the Norse now have to address: fighting enemies to gather Favor. When the Norse are not fighting, they are unable to gather Favor except for a very slow trickle from existing heroes. Upon fighting, they gather Favor at a fast rate, but not enough to both reuse their expensive god powers and summon their myth units in the same game. Plus, they still require Favor for all their mythological improvements. The end result is that the Norse players will be unable to stockpile on Favor unless they conduct raiding tactics, which is detrimental to the Norse faction as a whole. To make up for this extra downside, I call on the developers to buff the Norse faction's Favor gathering speed to where they can keep up with the other players' Favor stockpiles, as they are still considered the worst faction in Age of Mythology, Retold or not. They desperately need all the help they can get.
