[TLDR]: The developers fumbled this hard. This game could have been so good. They lacked vision, and it bit them in the tuckus. They also ignored core fundamentals of good game design in roguelikes like variability and dynamicism. Every run feels nearly identical. This is the worst possible thing to have when playing a roguelike. There are too few spell/arcana options in a game where you're a fist wizard, and the dialogue is pretty...not great. There are so so many issues that the players have been pointing out for over a year of early-access now, and we've been ignored for nearly the entirety of it. * There are still very few relics, even after 1.0 * There are still very few arcana, even after 1.0 * I'm only going to mention this once- the dash has i-frames when the first game didn't. I don't like this change, but it is what it is; obviously it's still playable. The game was built from the ground up expecting i-frames, so it's never going to change. The first game differentiated itself from competitors because of this, and imo it was a bad decision. Moving on. * Biomes aren't random, it's always the same one first, because they were designed from the ground up with specific difficulties in mind, and reworking everything would assumedly be too much work. * The game is incredibly linear, and run-backs take too long because run speed is pretty slow and teleporter placements are random and dumb sometimes. * It's unoptimized; my game lags and nearly freezes against the earth elemental boss when he does his spinning drill attack, and I'm using an RX 9070, a 12th gen processor, have 64GB of RAM, and an SSD. No other applications open. * It's unbalanced, more than half the arcana available, even with how few there already are, are bad or useless in higher difficulties. The only issues they managed to kink out were bugs, and even then, co-op has not been fixed, and playing with my brother feels terrible for whoever is joining the game. * It's unbalanced pt.2: electric boogaloo; The readability in this game is atrocious. The game is very easy without any runes (difficulty modifiers), regardless of what arcana you use, but difficulty spikes in the wrong ways with a few red runes. When you're playing on the highest difficulty, with every red rune active and no green, that's very bad. The monsters don't show any wind-up for their attacks, so adding Relentless Foes makes fighting a bunch of different enemies a game of "don't let them get anywhere close to you, or you'll take damage you can't heal from because I also have to use the no-healing-rune. Add hyper armor to that and you've got a nasty concoction of "I have to use melee arcana because it'll take 30 years to kill a boss otherwise, but I have to also keep dodging the vine-whips from the 3 regular treants that come out at mach-10 speeds without literally any wind-up, who I also can't interrupt and whose range is also twice as mine."... Challenge is only fun when it still feels fair, and things only feel fair when a player can react in time. Sure, predicting attacks is of course required, but I've played video games my whole life; I've got fantastic reaction times and I know when an attack is coming. There are so many mobs in this game with ridiculous attacks. I've beaten the Boss from the third biome on Archwizard difficulty more than once (given, it was before they nerfed the Fall cloak) and the fastest run took nearly 50 minutes. With Lightning Spinner, the most broken arcana there is. The most optimized items and arcana I could possibly get. The game wasn't even finished yet, and one session took nearly an hour with the best items and spells possible. And now the game is even longer. One session from the first game would normally take 30 to 40 minutes max once you got into the groove of things. I wanted to wait until 1.0 was write my review to be fair. I've had over 40 hours in this game now, and nearly all of it was from early-access. Well, 1.0 is out, and...it's nearly the same game it was half a year ago. Yikes. I really wanted this game to be good. I wanted so badly for it to be good. But it isn't. I cannot recommend this in its current state. Ignoring that it's almost nothing like the first game, which is really sad considering how good the first game was, it still doesn't feel like a complete product. 12 Basic arcana TOTAL? 13 Signature arcana TOTAL? 30 Standard arcana TOTAL? 17 dash arcana is...okay, except most are bad or awkward to use. Let me get this straight, thats: * two different basic arcana of every type * two different signature arcana of every type, with 1 extra chaos * five different standard arcana of every type Let's add those all together- that's...67 arcana total, including chaos arcana that players don't unlock until later. When Wizards of Legend 1 first released, there were ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY total ELEMENTAL arcana- that isn't even counting the 24 Chaos arcana you would unlock as you slowly beat each 30-40 minute session. ...you guys..come on. When you look even closer, you realize that more than half of these current choices aren't even viable or fun. The developers received *so* much feedback. Players compiled tier-lists of arcana almost immediately after being asked to by the developers themselves more than *half a year ago*, and, ignoring some questionable lists, a good majority painted a very similar picture. And guess what? Literally no balance changes were ever made. None. Fireball is still the worst arcana in the game; there's literally no reason to choose it, and I assume it's going to remain that way forever now. Same goes for so many others that are low tier. (water torrent my beloved, I so wish you were good. =( alas) It's okay to have arcana that aren't as good. It's not necesarily a fun thing to have, but it's understandable if some under-perform others. Except usually, in those circumstances, players at least have options to choose from. Other arcana that are better or more fun, even by just a little. The first game had 36 different arcana for each element to choose from if you didn't like one. This game has 2 to 5. Most basic arcana are bad. Nearly every signature in this game is bad. ESPECIALLY on higher difficulties. Most standard arcana are mid, but that's okay because of their variants. I'm going to end this review by emphasizing: every run feels nearly identical, regardless of what good or bad arcana you choose. Regardless of what relics you get. The biomes remain constant across every run. There is no variability. It gets sooooo stale. The developers, instead of creating a system where the starting biome is random every run, is static. They built each biome from the ground up as steps in difficulty. Forest is easy. Desert is harder. Castle is even harder. Haven't played enough to reach the fourth biome yet since I have to go to work soon and each run takes over an hour. Maybe when they fix the game I can recommend it, but as it is now, do not buy it.

I LOVED the first game and still play it. This one? Felt disappointed by the needless move to 3D with the trailer, but decided to support the devs anyway. Paid full price despite early access, didn't even manage 2 hours before getting bored and frustrated. Consciously didn't refund because I wanted to support the devs, and see what they could cook. Behold my surprise when I see them launch 1.0 much earlier than I expected! I must have missed a ton being added, or they had stuff up their sleeves! Well- only our swindled cash, apparently. I missed one 'major' content update, and then that's it besides 1.0. Yet still somehow the first game has more content, is better, and cheaper without any sales? I just don't know how I could recommend this over the first. I'm sorry, without some post-launch support (which I can't see coming after this paltry early access effort) - I just don't think it's at all worth the price.

Horribly disappointing. Its obvious from the start that the original team behind WoL isnt here anymore. This is Hades 1.5 but worse. Its a game that wants to be what it used to be while also pretending to be something else. Ive been here since early access began. I played the beta before it released publicly and even made my points known about its obvious Hades inspiration. Slowly but surely theyve made small updates. But nothing really feels like WoL at all. Everything feels like Hades. And dont get me wrong, Hades is a nice game, but this is about this being a "WIZARD OF LEGEND" game. Something that is all about spell combining, building yourself up and collecting spells. Somehow, since their launch to 1.0, the game feels even more dull and less polished. Any and all cosmetics are either parts literally ripped off of other bosses (like a crown or a mantle or a bracelet) or simple color swaps. Arcana feels grossly useless, with the exception of Dragon arcana which is universally useful, where many spells feel too weak or miss that gratifying "oomph". Upon launching the game for the first time after the 1.0 launch, I was met with an infinite black screen. Then after 10 minutes of waiting for that to load, I force closed the program and tried again. It loaded finally but my HUD was displayed on the main menu (which looks awfully generic by comparison to the first one). After loading into the game finally I noticed clicking on ANY interactable NPC would cause my character to freeze and be unable to move until I clicked every button on my controller (this happened with EVERY NPC in the hub). Frequent freezes when looking over my arcana, freezes when trying to look at relics, same exact glitches that were mentioned in the previous updates that have failed to be addressed (like HP dropping to 10 if you leave your game with the Fall talisman equipt) Opening up my talisman menu reveals a bugged talisman in the selection simply labled "???" with no explanation (I assume this is a bug because everything else is) is it clear that the team just wanted to abandon this game? box it up real nice, get some generic art for their title screen and say "There it is people, thats 1.0" just disappointed. at this point the OG is better with mods. This just feels like a poor man's immitation. and it wasnt even good

As a big fan of the original Wizard of Legend with dozens of hours on the first one... this ain't it, dawg. I'm not sure the new devs actually understood anything that made the original unique and interesting. The gameplay is, for the most part, serviceable, but feels like a step down from the original in almost every respect. The player character feels sluggish, while the enemies are just as fast as ever. Dash arcana have been given i-frames, so fights that were once a question of timing and positioning, you're now expected to twitch-reflex-dodge your way through. Nowhere is this more obvious than the bosses. The original game's bosses had zero hitstun while they were doing their attack patterns, but an obvious vulnerable window in-between cycles (and you could chip in extra damage during their attack cycle if you were brave). Now? The bosses attack non-stop, and if there's a safe window to attack I definitely haven't found it in my (admittedly short) playtime. The switch to a 3D artstyle is at best a side-grade - the game looks incredibly generic, and the vast majority of characters I would describe as bargain bin Hades knockoffs (and even that feels generous). The voice acting is honestly a detriment, and makes me wince nearly every time a character speaks. The worst part is, the original game had a colorful cast of characters that shone with personality just with text and animation - if the devs had just reused the characters from the first game and voiced them, I'd be a lot more lenient. Also, the original game's narrative setup led to one of my favorite payoffs in gaming when you finally beat a run. Now? There is no setup. Just do the roguelike. The game is also not free of bugs. I had to quit out of my second run when my character completely froze after falling down a pit. Considering how little playtime it took for me to find a run-ending bug, it bodes poorly. I'm not the only one with these opinions; the review section is a chorus of "new game bad, old game good." But the original Wizard of Legend was something special. This is, at best, a generic 5/10.

Game is not as bad as people are saying it is. I don think the fist game has more charm, I think pixel-art is prettier than 3d, and the voice acting is amazing, but it's a bit much all the time. It's not abandonware guys, game is here, just because it's not what you're expecting doesn't mean it's mean spirited or smt, sheesh.

I have hundreds of hours in the first Wizard of Legend, it's one of my first roguelikes of all time. Unfortunately, this game seems ashamed of being WoL, it's just absolutely desperate to be Hades instead, and it fails at both. There is no reason to buy this game. Just play either Hades or WoL 1 instead.

They still have enough time to fix this game... That's what i said when i saw first EA reviews. I can try it, maybe it isn't that bad... That's what i said when i bought into EA. Gameplay is sluggish and where the first game had no I-frames, forcing you to maneuver and reposition cause you can't just go through attacks. This game made it just like any other Hades clone, and changed the core by giving back I-Frames, making it just a timing to press doge simulator. it barely has more content than the first game when that launched, (if not even less than that), the dungeons get repetitive really fast cause unlike the first game they aren't randomized, and the upgrades to Arcana in no way make up for the lack of really unique base Arcana. and likely i'm forgetting to mention like 5 other things that just make this a slop version of WoL1. I seriously can't recommend this game, it's biggest W in "Early Accsass" was giving back a mechanic that was already core to WoL1 game-play (Dash-Arcana) and removing the Cringe Voice over they had going on in the demo. That's about it, huge mishandle of such a good IP. WoL1 was among my favorite games! WoL2 is among my most disappointing games i ever played. I gave this game Months in EA to win me over, they failed, now i have no reason to hold back. This game is the IRL Lilo and Stitch Remake to the original Lilo and Stitch PLAY THE FIRST ONE | SKIP THIS!!! you aren't missing out, trust me.

Having a lot of fun with the four player mode. Had well over 100 hours in the original game and enjoy some of the new changes like Arcana variants that keep the sequel fresh. There have been some bugs (such as player icons appearing the wrong colour on the mini-map in four player mode) but nothing game breaking for me personally. I really hope the devs can continue work on the game to add some additional Arcana. Otherwise, great fun with friends!

This game wants so bad to be Hades, but also seems to have no idea what balance is. Played with a friend and done dozens of runs, but none of them felt particularly overpowered, and the violent lack of lifesteal or even healing in the game makes a deep dungeon crawl a massive chore. I even looked up some build guides, but near as I can figure, all the play styles offered have been nerfed at this point, which is wild to me. Do yourself a favor and save your money

Definitely not a strong launch for version 1.0. I really enjoyed the first game, but this one feels unfinished and buggy. For example, the Holy Sword stops working unless you drop and re-equip it, and some spells no longer trigger properly during the final boss fight. I also agree with other reviewers — the map design feels repetitive and uninspired, making the game feel stale quickly. It's disappointing to see that several spells from the first game have been removed. In its current state, the game just isn't worth the time.

I was not convinced with the change in graphics from the first game but i gave the benefit of the doubt, I was not convinced by the early acces but gavce the benefit of the doubt for the full realease, full release comes out and they don't even add new arcana, i think i gave them enough chances i'm sorry it turned out this way.

People are being too hard on this game even though it is flawed in some regards... But!!! Even if not perfect WOL2 is still pretty fun and worthwhile! So my veredict is:
A solid 7.2/10
here is why:
Big Pros
1 - Fun gameplay! The magic looks nice, the gameplay is fluid and the bosses/enemies are hard in the right amount. 2- Evolved worldbuilding. I played the first game and was interested in the magic world of WOL, so its nice to see a well done environment and new characters in that universe. This is what feels the most like an evolution from the first game 3- Voice Acting! This is a big thing for me, makes the characters seem real and alive. kuddos for the voice acting team (Altheia marry me please) 4 - More customization and 2 different body types. I am a big customization enthusiast in video games, so its really fun to make different mage archetypes for each run! 5 - Coop with more than 2 players! 6 - New dodge with invulnerability frame! (This was my biggest gripe with the first game) I've seen some people say they dont like the i-frame dodge but thats crazy to me. Adding i-frames to the dodge turns the gameplay way more skill-based and less running away-based like the first WOL. In the first game it was so frustrating to dodge and enemy attack just to die for a pixel and lose all progress in a promising run But despite all the fun stuff, the game does have some big problems that prevents it from being a 8 or a 9, so...
Big Cons
Real issues that can hurt your experience: 1 - Bugs. A lot of them. This is the main problem IMO, also strange to find so much in a game that was in early access for so long. Most bugs are harmless but some can really hurt your run. in 1 out of 5 runs you´ll probably find one that will make you need to restart the game, thats a BIG nono. If the bugs were solved the game could easily be a 7.7/10 2 - Not much content. In the beginning it seems like there are a ton of arcana, but there really isn´t specially if you have a favorite element that you main. After a while you have every magic in the game and it can get really repetitive. If this was solved this game could easily be a 8.3/10 3 - Sharing items in coop. This is tricky and limiting buildwise. For example: if in the begining Player1 decides to go for a CRIT build all crit items should be prioritize for that player, and if Player2 goes for a damage build then the Player1-Crit-guy wont have the damage buff to scale the crit. And a Player3 would do what? Maybe tank, but if you are unlucky you won't go near a single HP item in the game. And if every player goes for damage, someone will be weak since you won't find damage items for everyone... I think you get the idea. This could be solved if every shop had singular items for each player or if we had more Support based builds options. and also,
Small stuff that could be better
little things that won't hurt you experience but could be way better 1 - If we can choose from 2 diferent body types why the hell can't we change the character skin tone? Specially since we have a cool NPC like Serjik who is a black magician street artist, why does the main character gotta be a skinny-ass caucasian mage? You guys were so close to doing some cool stuff here, I don't get the cowardice at all 2 - More customization options. We have a lot of capes, but only one mask type and bracelet for each element. Would be nice if we could maybe put some armor on top aswell? More stuff for us to expend our crystals and keep coming back to the game after completion. These things doesn't seem so hard to do, I don't get why we have so little of them (also most symbols for the cape look kinda lame imo) 3 - linear story through roguelike. This game in the surface looks like Hades, but only visual-wise. The main thing that made Hades big appart from gameplay and art was adding a linear story that happens in your circling rogue-like gameplay! Would be amazing if we could get more lore as the run progresses (the lore is only hinted at) , some side-quests for the NPCs that we could do in the run and even develop some stronger bonds with our favorites NPCs (Altheia please marry me). If you are gonna base your game on Hades maybe don't stop on the visuals! 4 - Talking about that, even though the art is beautifull, it wasn't necessary for the game to look so much like Hades. It should have had the courage to look like its own thing. But I don't mind the art all that much (Altheia is so beautifull...) Thats it! If you like Coop Roguelikes, this game is a go for! But it is true that it could be better and it's just a tad behind its potential. Also a message for WOL1 players that are hating on the game and are probably reading this and getting angry: What type of fan you are that makes you so stingy on getting a sequel? It's true this game isn't perfect, but you as a fan of the series should encourage new players to test it out while also pointing out what could be better! That way MAYBE we can get a WOL 3 in the future. And if you like the original game so much, you can always go back to it! Hating on a series you like because it didn't attend your expectation is so childish... be better fans people. Play WOL2!

If you are looking for a game like the first Wizard of Legend, sadly this isn't it. The game currently seems kind of undercooked (which i guess? is ok? cause it just fully released), It's unoptimised, The encounters are unbalanced, some mechanics are still underdeveloped, There's no clarity in the attacks and animations of enemies and bosses, and they've replaced the punishment phase of bosses and some enemies with a stagger bar?, which doesn't work because the time between attacks is far too small unless you are playing a burst hit-and-run build. There's also no more mini-bosses like the Grand Summoner or Crash Knight from the first game, they've been replaced with a just spawn turns of elite enemies. The game also has way LESS arcana, which they've tried to balance out by adding variants, but you are still very limited in how you are going to play the game since some arcana just objectively suck compared to others. There's also less relics now, but i assume that both the Arcana and Relic issue will be fixed by future updates (hopefully). Apart from those fundamental issues with the game i have a few nitpicks, like Aeromancer's Grasp not being able to dash over pits to enemies, the movement is a bit clunky, buffer timing is unclear and the aim sometimes does and doesn't change when you do buffer it, DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE ARENA BOSS IN THE PURPLE PORTAL, Council Bosses having iframes during their signature abilities now, Inconsistent NPC's which makes every run in the game just a huge dice roll (Which might be more your style than mine), True Melee builds are kind of unplayable in solo. I feel like the game could've just used a bit more playtesting and now that it's fully out maybe the dev's will be able to fix its main issues and balance everything, but as it stands right now its kind of the Pacific Rim 2 of Wizard of Legend, not living up to the first game's standard but we can hope it gets better as the updates go on.

Very fun, very smooth. If you liked Hades (1 or 2) you will like this game, and it has seamless co-op that I have been enjoying with my brother. A lot of the negative reception seems to be centered around the game's departure from the style of the original title, but as someone who never played Wizard of Legend 1, this game holds up very well on it's own

After playing an additional 20 hours to give the game another chance: I stand by what I said in my original review below. The only difference is that now I'm incredibly tired of the "sarcasm" that everyone has when you fail a run. "Oh, it's not that difficult. You just need to try harder." It wears thin VERY quickly when every character in this game has something inane to say. What the devs try to pass off as "lore" is little more than random people gossiping about each other, and none of them come across as real wizards; just overgrown children playing god. ---ORIGINAL REVIEW--- There isn't much to say about this game beyond "fails to meet it's full potential". I can tell that there are a lot of cool ideas and aesthetics working together here, but fundamental bugs (like being unable to move after falling into a pit) means that runs can end because you're no longer able to dodge incoming attacks. It ruins an otherwise fun experience. Once they fix more of these bugs (and add more arcana, for goodness' sake), this game will be fully worth it. 60-something arcana when the previous game had over 100 to pull from? Whose bright idea was that? The variety of play styles is what made the first game so replayable. Without more spells to pull from, this game simply doesn't have the longevity, and I don't need to beat the second world to see that.

Lacking the replayability, combos, content and soul of the first one. If I knew the devs weren't the same, I wouldn't bought this product for sure, but that was my mistake to not look closely because of my love of the first one.

Yesterday i had an experience of this game which ruined it for me, this is my original review (I played the game for over 54 hours, and we quit out of the game and my entire save file was deleted i had every arcana and almost every relic ive been playing this since beta and all my progress is just gone like that from just quitting the game, we reinstalled and uninstalled, checked save files, and all of it was gone.) I wanted to take more time to review it more being that i do have a love for this game as well as the first one and love the rouge like elements as well as the game itself! WARNING 1 IF YOU ARE BUYING THIS GAME! (NEVER EXIT THE GAME MID DUNGEON IT WILL DELETE OR CORRUPT YOUR WHOLE SAVE FILE) Happened to me twice to confirm this now, Always go back t the dungeon entrance or fully finish your dungeon then go back to the menu then exit the game) Aside from that ive personally sunk alot of hours into this game and love it its like hades but i feel like more gameplay driven vs storyboard personally i dont care about the story but the mechanics of the game as a rougelike and replayability are unmatched with the amount of custom variety throughout the game! Even after having to fully restart i am still playing this game not to completion anymore but just to personally challenge myself to continue beating it with the random arcana or relics or paths i get and challenge myself more something i would say is only possibly once youve sunk maybe 20-30 hours into the game or you understand rougelikes and learn the mechanics elements of this game that are more to an advantage or disadvantege to you just need to understand your build and play the cards your given. I hope the devs see this and fix this, as a passionate fan of the game this genuinely upset me and although im still playing the game its drastically changed how much i care to pay attention to certain aspects of it. This is still an amazing game thats fun to play with friends or a group or just solo listening to music and grinding it out but with some issues that as a player you need to pay attention to or you will loose everything. The fear of every run being last for my profile is upsetting.

It's a good game. The problem is that is way worse than the first one, which is one of my favorite games of all time. First, there's less of everything. Less arcanas, less relics, less biomes, less variety. The elemental bosses became subbosses, which makes no sense, since they're the stars of the lore. The actual bosses are lackluster. Enemies as well are unispiring, things like snakes, flying bugs and others are uninteresting. Where are the mages and knights from the first game? Then, there's the gameplay. The decision to make dash invincible was a terible one, since the game became a game of hit-and-run, more dodges and less strategic thinking. Makes the game too much like other action games. Since there's less of everything there's also less variety on how to play. Too many traps, makes the pace less fun, slower. Music is so forgetable, sounds like elevator music, not epic at all. The graphics are good, beautiful animations, specially the arcanas. It feels good to use then. I started the game playing local coop only, and felt like the game was a little too hard, with normal enemies having armor (wich prevents hitstun) and bosses that took too long to kill. Playing singleplayer for the first time after 10 hours was a surprise, since normal enemies no longer have those pesky armors and bosses felt the way they should be. Hope we can get a Wizard of Legend 3 someday.

I loved the first game and played it a ton. When this game was announced I was thrilled! Then I heard all of the problems with it and decided to wait a while to get it. When I bought it I was ready to push aside everything that made me wait and see it with fresh eyes. My very first run it crashed quite early on, I thought nothing of it and started again. I began having a lot of fun with it! It is a GOOD game. But after the run I just had, I can no longer give this game the benefit of the doubt. I had the vampire goggles (my fav item from the first game giving heath on crit) and an item that gave 300% crit chance. I was having a blast, I was finally getting a foot hold and progressing through a lot of the levels and bosses. Until I was fighting a boss later on in my run, 30 seconds in the game crashes. I try to load the game back up to see if I can continue my run, and nothing. I hate that I love this game, when I am fighting the game engine more than I am the enemies; it makes this game insufferable. Devs, I know you have it in you to do good by this community - FIX YOUR GAME. Until then I am falling into the masses of people saying “give it more time before you get the game”. [TL;DR] It’s a great game with too many bugs to feel like you can get lost in it like the first game. You fight the game engine more than the enemies. Please fix and come back when it has been.

My girlfriend and I adored the first game, it's one of the first games we completed together. The combat was snappy, and it felt like there were hundred of options. We were both so disappointed by this sequel, and have basically given up on playing it anymore. I wish I hadn't given this game so much of a chance, because I would happily refund this game if I could. The jump to 3D was so unnecessary, I can only imagine how much resources and money went into it that could've been used by the developers to improve off of what made the first game so great. This is a trend in a lot of games now, thinking that the pixelated graphics of their first game is something players don't want anymore, when it's quite the opposite. Enemies and secrets are so much harder to see because of the new camera angle, And the camera feels so far away now that is really accentuates how slow the game feels. NPC's never shut up. They're terribly annoying. They're talking to us everywhere before a run begins (at the billboard for finishing missions, at the difficulty modifiers, at the spell maker, etc.) and we can't even discuss what we want to buy in the shop during a game because we have to wait for the shopkeepers to finish their drawn out one-liners. I have no idea why the devs thought Wizard of Legend needed a colorful cast of characters. The original game had you play as unnamed wizards fighting in a rather generic magic tournament to basically become "best wizard", and although It doesn't sound all that creative, that's because the fun of the original game was in the gameplay, everything else was just a means to get you into that next game. Speaking of the gameplay, it feels so slow, and just... off. All that snappy fast paced chaos is gone. The enemies are incredibly generic and lifeless. What happened to fighting other wizards with their own spells that got more complex as you progressed? Now you get to fight bugs, skeletons, and other trash. The first area feels like some sort of ripoff of league of legends! For some strange reason, it feels like a lot of the gameplay now focuses on knocking enemies into pits? Maybe I just haven't gotten far enough, but trying to get some fun out of this game has been a slog for both of us. Everything goes at a snails pace, and clearing maps feels like it takes forever. Combat is no longer satisfying, a lot of spells don't have that punch that they used to. The original game wasn't afraid to give you a spell that sent your character flying halfway across the screen in a few frames, it would take some getting used to, but once you learned the range of these spells you felt an accomplishment in mastering them and chaining them with other spells. I can only assume the transition to 3D has caused a lot of these types of animations to be "smoothed out" in an incredibly unsatisfying way. I rarely review anything, this might be my first steam review (or at least my first negative one) but I cannot express enough how sad I am to see one of my favorite games get a sequel and then ruin everything that made it great. I purchased this game in early access, and although I have not been vocal with my issues until now, seeing other reviews has revealed to me that other fans have been crying out the same things as me long before this game left early access. When I saw the devs post about this game officially leaving early access, I was shocked. Your reviews are mixed, with most negative reviews all echoing the same problems, and you cheer about the game reaching a "completed" state? Are you not ashamed with the state of your game? I don't expect any kind of apology to the community at this point, but the lack of any remorse or accountability for ruining what could have been a great game series makes me wonder where their heads are at. Do you just not care about what your fans have to say, or are you just sure that your sequel will bring in more new fans than it will lose old ones? Everyone is allowed to make mistakes, but nothing in the updates for this game has given me the impression that the devs feel like they've even made a mistake. If any developer sees this review, I would really like to have my money back. I feel cheated, and I mourn what could have been an amazing sequel to one of the best co-op games I ever played.

I hope this game makes enough money for the first game's developers to come back and make the third. EDIT: I'm sorry if my comment came off as mean spirited, I said so because I genuinely love the first game, but this one changed lots of the things that made the first one fun to play. So, here's some constructive criticism: What I loved about the first game but isn't there is this one: Tons of spells. The amount of spells and items in game allowed tons combos and tons of replayability. Dashing does not make you invulnerable. This is one of fundamental aspects of the game, and therefore, all enemy attacks can be avoided without the need to dash. Very fast based. You can nuke bosses in seconds with a good build and good combos, but since most bosses here go invulnerable after reaching certain HP percentages, the second game doesn't give you that satisfaction anymore. A solid formula that is repeated in every stage, with enough variance. Every stage had predictable rooms and rewards: items shop, spell shop, boss room, and a random room. This gives the player enough chance to get the build they want by the end of the run, but since the spell shop isn't always available, it breaks it this reliability. This predictability is even present in Hades, the game this doesn't shy about how much it's taking from. Enemies don't start attacking the instant you stop hitting them. Enemies in the first game were stunned after attacking them. This even gets worse when you encounter enemies with the yellow hp bar (armor). This affects pacing. Other notes: The game feels and plays like a Hades clone. I don't think that the adaptation is translating well with a game with spell casting and cooldowns, versus the original Hades that didn't have many cooldowns, but rather variety of weapons that you just spam. Both are rogurlikes at core, but the soul of wizard of legend 1 is different. Upgrading spells is a cool aspect of the game, but it shouldn't replace the variety of different spells you get in game. Dragon spells are one of the coolest and most powerful in this game, there are a couple of items that are specifically buffs them, but one of them is a signature spell. Yes, you can use some as a signature spell if you upgraded it, but this doesn't work with all (to my knowledge, earth and fire dragon spells won't). Even though, such important spells should be all available as signatures from the get go. The game seem to be artificially trying to increase player's play time by increasing the cost of new spells by 50% ( was 50 per spell in early access and now 75 per spell). Cool things this game added: Items that synergizes the use different elements together. Upgrading spells is cool, but shouldn't replace the variety of spells. Cool new characters and shops, but you aren't guaranteed to meet all of them each run. I genuinely hope that this helps you make the game better. Closer to what made the first one so much fun. It doesn't matter if you or the previous team makes it, it just needs to be fun.

I liked WoL1 and picked this up during early access to try coop with friends without needing to shareplay over steam like the first game. It plays similarly, but there is a very apparent lack of arcana choices. We never got coop to work without crashing or running into game breaking bugs killing the run in early access but tried it out today in 1.0. We came across just as many bugs but many of them were visual or prevented upgrading or receiving rewards in multiple ways. No crashes, but our run ended at the earth elemental boss because some of the 3 players couldn't see the earth wave attacks made by the boss. My whirling tornado standard arcana also only visually appeared about 50% of the time, so this type of thing occurs for friend and foe making dodging and knowing when your attacks land much more difficult. I haven't played a ton solo, but from what I can tell it does run better than in any coop games, online or local. If I want to play solo I typically go back to WoL1 instead.

Compared to the first one, each has its merits, but personally, I still prefer the second one. The multiplayer mode is better than nothing (but no one plays with me, boohoo). Also, during my brief five-hour playtime, the game crashed three or four times—one of which happened right after I reached 3-1, finally found the key, and started fighting monsters. Just like that, such a smooth run was gone.

This game isn't really a downgrade, but it's also not really an upgrade from the first game either. The issue is they've basically just made the first game a second time with a new engine and barely any changes, while also having less content. There's less spells, less relics, just less of everything to compensate for the fact that it's now 3D. I feel like no one wanted this which is pretty well represented by the reviews this game is getting. This is just an okay re-experience of the first game, but I'd still just rather play the first game with more content since this doesn't add much, pretty disappointing considering how much source material they had to work with and add upon. Just go get the first game, if you really want the coop, the first game is 2 player couch coop and my friend and I had a perfect time playing that game with remote play.

Just play Wizard of Legend. It's a tighter experience with more run variety and better balance. Even if you're looking for multiplayer, it's not well implemented here. Most upgrades don't get shared and your ultimate charge is still based on attacking enemies, except you now have multiple people killing things. Between spending time idle to discuss who gets what upgrade and splitting damage between every player, it hurts your ability to get a full charge and makes everyone feel weaker than they should. I'm disappointed that DeadMage, coming off their success with Children of Morta, seem to have phoned this one in.

idk man, I don't quite agree with the amount of negativity surrounding this game. I think there has been a very solid effort here on the part of the devs. To me, this game is just as fun gameplay-wise as the first one, I like that characters have been given voice lines, and the generation of level layouts is... good enough. There are some notable things that others have pointed out that really should be fixed however: - the game crashes from time to time. Not a ton, but it's been 3 times in less than 8 hours - when it crashes, the run is lost. There should be an auto-save of some kind, because it is frustrating to lose a run that is going so well due to a crash. This is the absolute minimum of what should be added. - the biomes should be random. I feel like that helped the original game with variety and keeping runs fresh - the amount of relics and arcana is too few, especially relics. It seems like the same ones are popping up in the shop all the time Overall, I think there is a lot to like here, and I hope some or all of these issues can be fixed.

It's not a bad game, it's fun but it needs to be polished. You can be soft lock by dashing into some walls, there were some networking issue when my friend would resurrect. You can be one-shot due to AOE stacking which is very frustrating. For instance, the first boss is launching rolling rocks and you can be hit 3 to 4 time by the rock in less than a second. In multi player mode, sometimes making an optional challenge only gives one bonus, which seems odd. The recap menu after finishing a game seems very poor regarding to the industry standard. It feels like the developers haven't play any other multiplayer rogue-like between Wizard of Legend and this opus. If the developers are still working on it, it might be a good game in 6 months or so. In the same genre, I would recommand Ravenswatch instead

This game could have been great. I appreciate the hard work from the developers and the revival of my top 3 roguelikes of all time. However, this lacks the weighty combat in the previous title and variety in the runs. For example, certain arcana are completely undertuned almost to the point of being unusable with or without variants (looking at you, wind and water basic 1), and signatures. relic combos are very one-dimensional and will pretty much remain the same on most runs. My final gripe would have to be the hit and run combat that's nearly required in higher difficulties. Rushdown enemies with nearly no windup with little to no healing depending on the difficulty leads to a bad recipe. Obviously it requires skill; however, paired with some of the spells in their current state you are nearly forced to use the same spells and playstyle in nearly every run you do. Let me end this by saying that this game has potential to be a great title, but right now it's a mess. It is not worth the price nor the time to play it, especially until community feedback is received and implemented. I remain hopeful in the future of this game and the developers' ability to utilise constructive criticism from it's community.

Fix this random crashed please. Unplayable at this point. Was at the end boss with friends and just crashed out of nowhere and the worst part is you cant even come back to your progress. I love the game i really do but the crashes are really bad. I dont even care about other glitches the crashes need to be fix asap.

Amazing game. The mixture of spell combos is wild. Well done game. Theres a few things that hurt me personally like all the spells going over the place. Its hard to see where you are tending to get you hit or falling off a ledge. I mean thats the only complaint I have. Game is well done if you love rogue lite with spell combos this is the game for you. Im happy I got it.

This game makes me triggerhappy like a Skylander. There are several soft lock glitches and if you get disconnected during an online run you cannot rejoin losing all progress. Sadly enough, there are very few arcana and the restriction on the number of relics you can take hits hard. This wasnt an issue in the previous game because of the multitude of combo relics. There are practically none in the sequel. The difficulty also seems very off. There is so little healing in the game, that you can almost never use max health up items because you simply won't reach that level of healing. Some attacks also seem to have hitboxes that don't match the visual effect. There are definitely some nice ideas here and improvements to the previous game but there are so many weird choices in game design that the concept falls flat. I cri

This is not it brother. This game wants to be Hades so bad, but doesn't have the story telling or dialogue to keep up. The original Wizard of Legend outclasses this game in every way. They ditched the variety that made the first game so good, and didn't take the time needed to make the spells that they did add feel polished. Feels like they dreamed bigger than they could handle and the game falls flat.

Currently the 1.0 release version of the game is fun with a great mix of abilities, builds and options for each run. I like that you can commit to taking in the same arcane each run to practice or embrace randomness by picking up upgrades along the way. The action is fast paced and I think they have ironed out the difficulty scaling from pre-release. What kills it is bugs and stability. It doesn't matter how fun the gameplay is, if you're an hour into a run with the perfect build and suddenly the game locks up, it's frustrating enough to make all future runs seem pointless.

Game is ok, but there's way too much visual clutter to be able to understand what's going on. I constantly dodge all abilities and get hit by enemy abilities, never knowing which is which. I won't be playing the game again until I can disable ally abilities (or make them mostly transparent). Very frustrating. Edit: Actually the game isn't ok, in multiple runs, I've chosen transformative upgrades for abilities that I've already poured resourced into, only to find out that the ability got nerfed! It has literally ruined runs. And a lot of relics just suck. Game sucks more than the relics.

Game Is fun and looks great, I got it for $18 on the opening day sale and in my opinion it delivers on content fitting to the price I paid. While its lacking variability and more arcana, i'd say that is still a good product for the price. I personally would not count this game as a sequel, it feels more like a remake of the original. Highly recommend if you catch it below $20.

I feel like the game isn't balanced around Single player minded people. i wish they were just honest and made it strictly coop so i would just pass on the game instead of wasting my time, thinking oooh a new roguelite/like? A lot of the abilities feel samey and the choices you get from the shop guy are all like lamey? none of the magic spells i got i was like "oh cool!" ill get hit for like 30 damage and heal for 1, idk how you call that balance.. for a roguelite or whatever its kinda barebones and funnily enough it feels like a Hades clone, except Hades has balance and uniqueness to it whereas this game it feel like just soulless clone. i got bored in one of my runs cuz i kept getting garbage stuff in my run, like finding a chest...wow 4 gold that's great...uh lowest item you can buy is 100. healing? whats a healing? all jokes aside there's little healing anything,. a lot of the spells and stuff just feel basic, like nothing is cool, everything feels like they trying to appeal to everyone and not make anything to unique. 20 bucks for a generic Hades clone, id say just get Hades 1 or 2 even instead cuz at least in those games there is a "story mode" thing that if you aren't very good, you can turn that on or off anytime you want. i think i did that in Hades 1 to see what that was and it was neat function, cuz i wanted to see more of the story. Maybe im being to harsh but im just telling you how i felt after playing.

TLDR: Bugs I had sent a bug report regarding the map not being generated properly on the desert stage around like 2 or 3 months ago, perhaps even further. However as of when I last played, the bug was still not fixed. A path was shown on the map however I simply cannot reach it, a rock wall was in the way. No hidden portals, no spawning paths as I approach there, so that was likely a bug. I like what the game has to offer so far, plenty of improvements from wizards of legends 1 apart from visual quality, and some interesting features like upgraded spell(not just the enhancement from 1, like a real upgrade that changes the effects). I do think the game is like fine, and multiplayer would be fun, but I ain't suggesting the game to make more people get annoyed by bugs. Judging from how the dev team didn't really fix the bug I reported given the long time, I can't say they will fix it anytime soon.

I understood that while in early access there are many run ruining bugs such as a boss disappearing or character not able to move at all. Now the game is out of early access. I play 2 runs and they consecutively freeze; After being resurrected by an ally in coop, I can't move at all. And a monster appear out of room which can't be killed. So nearly 1 hour per run where game gets bugged preventing further progress. I find it unacceptable that a variety of bugs keep happening so often.

It makes you feel like spiderman Great sequel to the first game which was a good game too. I was hesitant about the 3d graphics because wizards 1 looked so good 2d but its definitely an improvement and looks great. Really makes you feel like a wizard or a mage and the combat is tough but fair and challenging. Takes some time to get used to the bosses attacks. Good game One of the bosses references break stuff by Limp Bizkit which is hilarious

Anyway, looking forward to make friends and build a team to make the run more enjoyable :D (feel free to add me :)

Awesome game, has lots of potential but it crashes WAY too much for an initial release. I would wait until they release some patches to fix these bugs. Have had multiple awesome runs ruined by crashes and freezes at the same point. I really like it and I like where the developers are heading with the mechanics. I think it needs more polish, but will ultimately end up being a fun game. If you want it to be more like WOL1, then go play WOL1 and stop complaining about how it's different. That said, I wouldn't blame you if you waited until the game is more stable and has a bit more content!
