This game is really good but pretty expensive for how short it is. Wait for a decent sale or pick it up in a bundle.

I ended up refunding this because it is straight up not fun at all. The combat and enemies are incredibly repetitive, only a couple of moments come even close to being scary, the placement of enemy spawns and save points is very frustrating, AI pathing is atrocious. I can't stress enough how for a game centred around melee combat, the melee combat is REALLY boring. It's so mechanically shallow and you do the exact same thing in every single encounter against every enemy.

I absolutely loved the game! No cheap jumpscares and yet constantly maintains that feeling of fear throughout the game. My only regret (!!! SPOILER WARNING !!!) it's not having had an epic fight with this fleshy mangle monstrosity

There is a lot I liked about Butchers Creek. Snapping pictures of gore to recover health was neat, the sound design is unnerving and made my neck hairs stand up on a few occasions, and the visuals capture the dirty atmosphere perfectly. People have complained about the short length (it took me an hour and a half to complete) but I don't mind a short game as long as its a good time all throughout. My main complaint about the game is the combat. Enemies are far too dumb to pose a real threat and there isn't enough variety between them. All enemies share the same attacks, the only thing that differentiates them is their outfit and how fast they move and hit you. They also have a habit of just standing still or getting caught on parts of the environment. The only times you'll die in this game is if you get clumsy and fall down a hole or get backed into a corner by enemies you didn't see coming. It gets dull after a while and when your game is only an hour and a half long, getting dull is a real problem. If I were to update the game, I would work on enemy path-finding first and foremost, and then I would give each enemy type their own unique ability to set them apart from one another. Something like making the camo guys throw knives at you, or maybe making the tye-dye guys dodge to the side if you throw things at them, would go a long way to making the game more satisfying to play. I don't know, I'm not a game designer so maybe my suggestions would make the game significantly worse, I would just like more variety.

This game is only around 2 hours long and I don't imagine it would maintain its charm for more than, maybe, a couple more playthroughs... That said, it seems to accomplish everything that it sets out to do and proves an engaging and atmospheric ride. The combat does feel like a simplified version of Condemned and all of the enemies behave exactly the same but I never felt it detracted from the game. The grainy VHS aesthetic works wonderfully for setting the tone and the story is well-communicated with a few scattered notes and letters. I'd happily recommend when it goes on sale, but there doesn't feel like enough content for $10

I love the atmosphere and the combat is pretty fun. The enemy AI can be a bit weird thought.

The game is really good. I like how dark it is. A bit short but worth the money in my opinion.

Pretty fun game I ran through in one go, but still decently meaty. The story and writing kept me going as it was interesting and funny, even as someone who has yet to play The Pony Factory or Squirrel Stapler, which I didn't know were connected but it was pretty obvious later on. I recommend give a shot if you like Condemned or just a horror-themed 2-3 hour melee focused title!

Great atmosphere and aesthetics. Just played my second playthrough since the game's launch and it was just as good as the first one! The VHS Snuff film premise is really well executed and the gameplay is simple and fun enough to be easilly accessible to anyone who enjoys horror games. Personally, i think the combat system could be a bit fleshed out, but the way it currently is doens't bother me at all. Overall, Butcher's Creek is a great melee focused horror game, with great influences such as Condemned: Criminal Origins and amazing VHS aesthetics. I really like it! :)

Its pretty good, it nails the atmosphere. The combat definitely suffers from the lack of animations on hit feedback as well as major repetitiveness. Managed to retroactively make me respect other fps melee games such as Condemned, realizing the amount of effort put in to make those games work. Considering this is an one man developer, its a decent attempt. By the end I was pretty pleased that it was over.

Yes, Yes, YES. I LOVE Butcher's Creek. It's brilliantly scary, it knows just how to utilize its existing mechanics to freak you out. It's a solid title. Maybe it could have benefitted more from twisting its mechanics and taking you off guard, but instead it relies mostly on strong enemies hiding from you. It's a little one-note, but said note is so addicting, I can't complain. Seriously a fantastic game. I love it a lot, even if it is definitely one of David's weaker titles. I would recommend to people who love to hit things real hard

They forgot one thing. These torturers here in these dungeons.. I am not locked in here with them, they are locked in here with me. I AM THE MONSTER.

I like the game, but it's too short for even nine dollars. I'm not a particularly good gamer, but even I managed to complete it just over two hours. I recommend getting it on sale and playing on hard difficulty, because the game is quite easy.

You are literally a naked, fat fuck who is into snuff materials against a cult of morally dubious serial killers that is making said-snuff films for... something much worse than Hell. 8/10

Short horror game, ps1 style with small variety of enemies. Otherwise a fun short game for the price

Easily beatable in one sitting, would probably wait for a sale to buy it, but it's a pretty tight, super grimy horror experience overall If you like Condemned, this'll be right up your alley

Solid two hour adventure, the only letdown was the AI being a bit dumb at times.
