Hard Laughs and the Worst YouTube Tutorials of All Time
Review after 30 hours: Play this game with friends—seriously! Danger lurks everywhere, and nothing compares to the pure panic when your ship gets boarded. It’s chaotic, unpredictable, and absolutely amazing. The movement is clunky—maybe even a little broken—but that just adds to the hilarity. The electrical and logic systems are so complicated, you’ll feel like feeding yourself to the biters (and honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about it). One word of warning: the only thing worse than drowning is trying to learn the electrics from YouTube tutorials. Someone, please, make an actually decent tutorial—because the current ones are enough to make you end it all. I will change my review as I progress. This is an honest review of my experience playing the game.

Great title that offers a unique blend of strategy, action, and teamwork. Playing solo is possible if you desire to manage all your NPCs, but the multiplayer is where the game really shines. Development has been amazing, almost too good since if gives the modding community difficulties at times. Even has a built-in Submarine builder if you desire to make your own (assuming you are willing to spend the time to learn all of it's complexities & nuances). Overall, would definitely recommend giving it a look.

Great Game! Really unique and enjoyable, very customizable and mod able Each role is different and has multiple specialities only issues I have is its not for everyone and griefing is awful and for some reason theirs alot... However, I've played with a lot of public people as my friends don't play this game and its good and I've finally really gotten into it. Dev's Add a Karma system to people, So we can all report people who grief.

An extensive game about submarining, and an amazing co-op experience! One of those games that seem deceptively simple in concept, but will ambush/pleasantly surprise you with the depth of its mechanics. Barotrauma's genius lies in its granularity. It may start you in a small leaky tub with verry little idea how to interact with the world around you. But once you learn the intricacies of piloting a nuclear submarine, you can dive headlong into: customizing your submarine down to the individual compartments, designing specialty weapons, wiring up displays and electrical systems to your will, engaging into research and splicing yourself into a alien mutant monster etc, etc. You learn all of this in order to explore an alien ocean below the frozen surface of the moon: Europa. Its an environment that is as starkly alien as it is horrifically hostile. You'll experience being attacked by underwater leviathans, getting caught up into factional infighting, being hammered to death by murderous clowns, being overtaken by parasitic aliens and twisted into a mockery of humanity.... Oh! And you'll drown plenty of course.... But, this game is unique. And I promise that if you can gather some mates to set off with, this game will get verry absorbing verry quickly. High recommendation!

10/10 Madness Simulator Can be played Solo-depending on your Experiences with other Players that might be harder or easier. Tons of custom submarines in the workshop Tons of mods which change and/or add all kinds of things in the game. Public Games which you can join and be a traitor in. Campaign Mode in which you can level up yourself and your crew. Generally a good thing this game. Gotta harass some friends so they also play it.

What an absolute masterpiece. It scratches that "game with the homies" itch like Lethal Company or Baldur's Gate 3, but Barotrauma's gameplay is so much more elaborate and polished in just the right ways that make your crew laugh, scream, and curse like sailors. And damn, the aesthetic hits just right. I would buy it again at full price. I would recommend playing multiplayer campaign with your closest, most homoerotically masculine friends, but anyone you know well will do. My only complaint is that the campaign is a slow burn, though that might not be the worst for other new players.

best game ever. No game ever has a ecosystem like this, full of pain and suffering in singleplayer and so in mutiplayer. want to be in a 10 cm tincan with 50 other people? while you scream into the ocean and piss off the unhinged knock off t-rex fish and ET and his family? the game is for you. wanted to get beat into a ballast for the rest of your life while the clowns throw grenades at you, and also rewiring the nuclear reactor on the submarine to the toaster, Or Grow a zombie parasite inside of you and release it on everyone? or try to fight a worm.... the size of a 50 story tall building, or kill a monster from hell. or even fight a demi-god that floats there and shoots glowing balls of light that explode each limb off of you at once. and the pressure its so strong! strong enough to inplode a man, even a submarine. have a headache do you? prolly cause of the meteor that broke the ice into europa, Letting a flood of radition come into the oceans of huge worms, i swear the clown did this. im getting a eargasm by the songs. get out of the loop. break the cycle break the cycle. break the loop. turn back.... before its too late. anyhow time to cook ET on the nuclear reactor powered toaster.

Barotrauma is the type of game that you beg your friends to buy so you can play together. They first see the 2D aspect of the game and at the end they see the gameplay and buy it. Definitely worth the hustle of convicing friends I 100% recommend the game

Barotrauma is a chaotic underwater circus and a beautiful disaster waiting to happen. You're in a submarine deep under Europa’s ocean. There are sea monsters outside and panic monsters inside. The engineer is rewiring doors for no reason, the medic overdosed the whole crew by accident (hopefully) and the clown is... well, a clown. Every mission is a drama. One moment you’re mining peacefully, next moment swarm rips your hull open while the security officer is busy accusing the assistant of treason. Spoiler: it's always the assistant. Multiplayer experience in a nutshell: 10% teamwork 90% confusion 110% the Captain yelling “WHO OPENED THE AIRLOCK?!” In conclusion: Barotrauma is the perfect game if you enjoy stress, betrayal, and screaming in voice chat while your sub flooded with water and clowns. 10/10 would crushed by water pressure again.

Very good game. high pressure moments met with fun times qith friends. The solo game play isn't for everyone, it can be a bit dull and the game in general isn't the easiest to get a hang of at first but you get better with experience like most games.

I have never really bothered to play this game solo so I cannot speak to that experience at all. However, I can say that this is one of my favorite games to play with friends. Everyone get a role and works together (or doesnt...) to operate a sub in a nightmarish sea full of horrifying creatures. It's just so fun to annoy the shit out of your captain by playing a guitar next to his head while a massive demon worm from hell chases after your tin can submarine. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a game to play with friends on a regular basis while also being willing to manage the learning curve of the game which is not a shallow one honestly.

Absolutely Fantastic video game. The devs consistently work on this game and the modding support is phenomenal. On top of that, the editor abilities for things like the submarines in the game are very ergonomic, allowing you to sit down and understand the system to make custom content for yourself if that's a way you'd like to approach the game. The Art style and perspective is perfect for giving you just enough to let your imagination go wild, which helps with roll play a lot. The only thing the game could use more is better AI for single player and piloting the sub in single player without driving, but that's hard to code. The Multiplayer is very good, and the entire game seems designed around good team coordination and facilitating roll play.

I'm going to be extremely honest. This game is quite fun. It has a good gameplay loop that feels entertaining and not too repetitive. Each job has different expectations and play styles. As Captain you are expected to be the leader/boss while also maintaining command and driving the ship. Your word is law. Say on the different side of things like the assistant, you are expected to be expendable/disposable. Course you get better with over time and eventually get some pretty good level ups that help make you so much more important. I will admit that I have yet to play engineer/mechanic and functionally I'm not too sure what their differences are. I know that technically they are different and somewhat play different, I just haven't gotten the chance to see that yet. Jobs like Security Officer and Medic are so important when playing. The medic is the one who is supposed to be the best at healing and IS while the Security Officer is the weapons man. All jobs have perks to showcase who they are and how different they are to the rest of the team. When you are missing one of those jobs it can feel like the crew are lacking in that aspect. Another thing to note is the many different enemies/wildlife you can encounter. Each one mostly feels different. Even those that I wont speak about here to avoid spoilers. Also being able to explore parts of the map and find things scattered about is really quite nice. If you spend time following the ocean floor or roof and taking some time to look around in caves can be really worth it. For some things I'm not the biggest fan of, I'll admit it is mainly the lacking medical. Don't get me wrong, it is still extremely fun to play the medic/doctor, but I feel that just using morphine to solve everything somewhat gets repetitive and feels rather boring. Sure there are other meds you can use but morphine is the most reliable and easy to get ahold of. If that new DLC is anything to go by we might be eventually getting a revamped/updated medical system that I'm very excited to try out. A quick explanation of the gameplay loop: Start at outpost, gather supplies, get missions, undock from outpost. Depart from outpost, travel through the ocean, battle enemies, do any missions you have out in these dark murky depths, travel some more, make it to the next outpost and dock. Then you are at the next outpost. (Could be a good outpost or a bad outpost. Depends on how you've played the game up to getting there, or how the environment on the map said the outpost was.) Now then the lore of this game is amazing. It is quite fun but a little confusing. I will admit the ending of the game is pretty neat, a little confusing, but really fun. (Trying to avoid spoilers). The crafting system is also pretty good and you can make honestly a lot of really good stuff when you reach the level to make it. Going alongside the crafting system is the perk system. All jobs get a different perk tree that they get to go through and decide on what they want. I will admit the perk tree's size and the length of the game usually means you will likely reach the end before finishing it especially if you have Jovian Radiation on. Jovian Radiation. This is quite a mixed topic. The people I played the game with it hated it, but personally I quite enjoyed it. I do wish it was a tad bit slower and did some more interesting things in the level instead of just killing outposts that have been in it for awhile and killing everything swimming about the water while also slowly killing you and your crew. What would be cooler is if the enemies got stronger while in it/perhaps mutated or were a different type than the normal enemies that dropped perhaps less or better loot. It'd make it more fun for the people who aren't driving the ship around as they don't get to do much while the radiation is ongoing as just sitting in the ship while doing nothing as you slowly die to radiation and don't have anything else to do is rather boring. Either way I think to improve this all that would need to be done is to either slow the radiation, or change the areas that are being affected by it so that more interesting things are happening for the crew onboard the ship other than the captain/the few seconds the gunners actually get to shoot something before it dies to the radiation. The one thing that I enjoy about this game the most is playing it with friends. Playing it single player is still pretty fun, but playing it with friends is a whole new experience. Having a proximity chat that is really good while also having a crew all trying to sing sea shanties is a amazing experience. All in all a really fun game that I say is 89/100. Nearly perfect but just needs a few things that we likely might be getting in future updates/dlc.

In an average public game you will either have no progress made in 2 hours, be shot to death by a power tripping security guard while the host is AFK or have that one captain that feels like its a good day to go mining in the abyss. The game is a glorious mix of submarine chaos that the community mirrors wonderfully. Remember, as the captain it is never your fault, so blame the assistant, and remember to shoot first and ask questions later.

We Need to Go Deeper too simple for you? Teamwork is something your friends excel at? Then Barotrauma is the game for you! Be the captain and stare at the radar telling your gunner friends of the horror they have to shoot at, if they don't will result in everyone dying! Why not be the engineer and be careless and set the reactor on fire causing a total meltdown because you're too busy deconstructing everything in the sub. Mechanic? Sure that door needs welding, no one definitely needs access to it whatsoever. This game is for friends to build their friendships to be stronger, or find ways to sabotage each other for the fun of it. 10/10 recommend to play it. Oh and also you can play it in singleplayer, which gives you a well oiled machine chugging along Europa hoping the bots do their job and not go psychotic and kill you or your crew. Go crazy with mods to spice things up.

Our security officer killed our baby pet mudraptor so i drugged him, amputated all his limbs, extracted his eyes and stole all his organs, then disposed of the body by throwing it in the ballast tank. Great game with great mods, P.S. This isn't possible in vanilla, download neurotrauma and enjoy your crew looking on in horror at the guy getting his limbs ACTUALLY ripped off by the mudraptor that broke into the ship 10 seconds ago.

I never wanted to play this game actually. A friend of mine convinced me to buy it and played once. just once. The only reason I have so many hours is because I played mostly alone with those retarded NPC's (I'm not roping in Artie of course). I loved this game once i began to learn the inner working's of it. Its kinda sad to think I did a better job memorizing medical effects and crafting recipes from barotruama then my Spanish notes. I think anyone with the patience to understand how each component of the ship and even the people in your crew effects your outcome of survival should definitely get this. Its of course more fun with friends but I still found joy by myself.
