What a delightful surprise! I had no idea there was a board game that inspired this digital version, nor was I aware that such a title was about to launch on Steam. I stumbled upon it while browsing new releases and I’m so glad it caught my eye. The rules are easy to learn but challenging to master. Striving for the best possible result requires careful strategic planning and thinking several moves ahead. Just like in real mountaineering, success also depends—at least in part—on a bit of luck. I haven’t played for very long yet, but even in that short time I had a great experience. I didn’t encounter any bugs or issues. While the digital version clearly builds on the original 2D assets, it introduces a subtle third dimension in a way that’s visually appealing. The interface is clean and intuitive, and the sound design is excellent. The soundtrack, in particular, stands out—it strongly evokes the emotional atmosphere of Dario Marianelli’s iconic score for the film Everest. It’s also worth mentioning that the digital edition includes all the expansions from the physical board game at no extra cost—something many other developers would likely have locked behind paid DLC. Even if you’re not into Himalayan climbing or have never played the board game (like me), I wholeheartedly recommend this digital adaptation. You’ll find yourself coming back to it for many enjoyable evenings.

So glad to see K2! I absolutely adore the board game and this digital version is a blast to play. I love the campaign mode but wish it were longer. Great that all of the board game expansions are in this digital version. Looking forward to playing friends online.
Died of hypothermia, 10/10 would freeze again
I've always wanted to climb K2 without the pesky risks of actual death, frostbite, or having to wear those ridiculous puffy pants. Thankfully, "K2: Digital Edition" lets me experience all the poor decision-making of mountaineering from the comfort of my heated apartment. As a fan of the original board game, I was skeptical about how well the tabletop experience would translate to digital. The answer? Like oxygen at high altitude - surprisingly satisfying once you get it. The developers have created an interface that's clean and intuitive, guiding even first-time climbers through the mechanics without an ice axe to the face. The game brilliantly captures the tension between risk and reward. Do I push my climber to reach higher altitudes for more points, knowing a sudden weather change could turn them into a colorful popsicle? YES. Always yes. My mountaineers in the board game and now in the digital version have died so many times they should name a memorial after me on the mountain. What truly impressed me was how the digital adaptation maintains the strategic depth of the board game while adding subtle 3D elements to the visuals. The sound design deserves special mention - the howling winds and creaking ice genuinely made me reach for a blanket during play. I'm also particularly fond of the achievement system, which turns even your most spectacular failures into badges of honor. The in-game rewards for completing scenarios add genuine replay value, unlocking new challenges that test even veteran climbers. Best of all, the digital edition includes all expansions from the physical board game without charging extra - a refreshing approach in today's DLC-infested gaming landscape. For new players: I recommend the tutorial, but honestly, failing miserably a few times is part of the fun. I started my first game with supreme confidence, rushed to the summit, and promptly watched my entire expedition team become permanent residents of the mountain. I've never enjoyed failing so much.
Pros:

Intuitive controls and clean interface
Great sound design and atmospheric ambience
All expansions included in base price
Strategic depth that rewards planning ahead
Successfully captures and surpasses the tension of the board game

Cons:

You'll die. A lot. (This is actually a pro in disguise)
May inspire unrealistic mountaineering ambitions
Will make you irrationally afraid of weather cards

Buy this game if you want to experience the thrill of high-altitude decision-making without the high-altitude funeral expenses.

What a surprise! I have the physical board K2 and add -ons Lhotse and Broad Peak and have played with it for SO MANY YEARS and still do. This is a good adaptation of the board game although I would recommend to the devs to explain how the weather panel works as this will help new players how it works. For a seasoned player on K2, the weather panel makes sense in the game, but someone with no experience, they will need more info. The mountain has several segments, and each segment is represented on the weather panel and what the weather will be on that specific segment (in red). Great game! Highly recommended. And remember, the easiest route up the summit is not a straight line, keep this in mind when playing this game.

Did you design your game to not be fun? In addition to the game breaking bugs of not allowing me to select cards and not allowing me to select moves, the instructions are unclear about how exhaustion points are assigned. The effects I saw did not appear to have any logic to them and were not assigned according to what the instructions implied. I could use the exact amount of movement points with each climber and I would still get exhaustion points. Even with movement left over I was still getting them. Also, how the hell do you expect us to play if we aren't allowed to USE our movement points? Even if they're difficult, games are intended to be won. Especially single player games. Between bugs and bad math, making your game impossible to play does not make it fun.

Good adaption of the board game. I didn't see a tutorial in the individual missions, so it's advisable to either know the rules or die a lot while trying it out. Bases can only be built if you have movement points to built it. The cost is the same as for entering the field. For any boardgame enthusiast i can recommend the game. And for people like me whose adversaries won't play K2 because of the difficulty level.

Love this game. And amazing digital version. Thanks devs. 10/10 Had to refund since I would not have a lot of opportunity to play on PC. If it was Deck verified I'd instant purchase.

This is a really nice implementation of one of my favourite boardgames. There are a couple of different camera options and interface tweaks possible, and the audio and lighting are wonderfully atmospheric. I like the way that the information is made available to the player simply and clearly, for example hovering over the weather for a future day will show all of the effects for that day on the map, and the cards which have not been drawn yet are viewable at the click of a button, both of which make thinking and planning much less work. Everything is clean and easy to use: lovely. As well as the easy and hard versions of several maps, and the choice of summer or winter weather, there's also a campaign mode. This has three different missions with objectives and extra rules, and was good fun albeit pretty brief. Hopefully in the future something similar could be added for other maps as well. There's no asynchronous multiplayer yet (May 2025) but real time multiplayer is good, and the solo play is good too - with or without the option to add AI teams that will interfere with your progress and add variety and extra decision-making. The game itself is a hand-management and risk-balancing game where you allocate movement and health points to your two climbers, as you move them over a board which is affected zonally by the daily weather (which can result in health and movement penalties). If playing with more than one team, then there is some interactivity due to limits on how many climbers can be on a given space at the end of turn and the way that the risk/weakness tokens may be allocated to the most active team each day, but the mood is not one of competitiveness. It's more "everyone against the mountain" as you aim to get each of your climbers as high as you can (and then usually back down again to a place of safety) by the end of the expedition. It's not the heaviest game by any means, but it is very well done, and if you love the theme then you will enjoy it.

Great implementation of the board game. Adds a lot of depth beyond what was included in the physical version

Great digital board game! I had played the demo and loved it so much I was waiting for this release. It is well done in every respect, and makes me feel like I'm on the mountain making these life or death decisions. Definitely give it a try if you are fan of board games or interested in mountain climbing.
