THE OBSCENELY GOOD:
If you ever wanted to become a speedrunner, this is the game for you. This game makes every single microsecond feel crucial, and it feels incredible every time you get a new PB on a level or go up on the global leaderboards. Even better, it lets you to compete with your steam friends on personal leaderboards. The style is simple and immaculate, and the movement is buttery smooth and responsive.
THE ONLY OK:
The story is kind of mid, and the dialogue leans into some uncomfortable camp. It gets better when you realize it’s likely a parody of overly edgy anime tropes. It feels like what a 14-year-old edgy teen would imagine as badass. If you can laugh with it instead of cringing at it, it becomes part of the charm.
FINAL VERDICT:
Peak. Buy it.

One of the best games I've played. This game hits all the right spots for me, and it's so addictive. Don't even get me started on the soundtrack.

With a somewhat Vaporwave presentation this speedrun simulator encourages the player to move beyond the highlighted path and try to 'cheat' their way to a lower completion time. While every action was probably thought of by the developer beforehand, it still gives the illusion that the player is breaking all the rules by your own ingenuity and this feeling of outsmarting the game is highly enjoyable.

Fantastic game, lets me fulfill the fantasy of being a speedrunner despite not having the skill or time to be one.

Entire gameplay, aesthetics and musics make this game: Therapy for men. One of my fav games out there. It just makes me feel happy to play this, and for a simple game it ends up being longer than I expected.

I love this game when I actually get to play! Great speedrun-parkour game! BUT The f**king cringy dialogues are endless though. I quickly resorted to fast-forwarding through all of them -- and even on fast-forward, it gets too long. Forcing the player to go through all of those dialogues to unlock everything in the game is annoying as hell. I really wish there was an option to just completely remove them from the game.

Lovely, cool charachters -- the main reason I kept playing. The story that keeps you trying to unlock all the little details as you clear the levels. Gameplay is rather fun. An awesome soundtrack from Machine Girl that keeps you locked in and complemets moments in game perfectly.

originally didnt realize this was more platformer than fps but thank god it is because it is one of my favorite platformers ever (and I still am so early into the game). masterclass lesson in game design and I feel like there could be infinite levels and still more cool content to be discovered.

One of the best first person speedrunning games. A lot of fun, great look, and great music.

Neon White is an excellent game in which you blitz through levels in first person using card abilities. Completing levels requires reaching the end goal and defeating all enemies, and doing so in record breaking time requires mastery over the level, mechanics, and platforming. It is almost exhilarating as you fly through levels to beat developer times. Unfortunately, the character interactions and story delivery detract from the experience, and players may not realize that by avoiding the character interactions and side-content, they will also not have the chance to play the most challenging and engaging content in the game.

Truly one of the greatest feeling games ever full stop, every mouse so precise, (almost)every level so well thought out, and every gun a new puzzle for you to slowly unfold. It won't feel like that at the beginning but get a few friends together and pushing each other to the edge of what's possible is some of the most fun I've had in a game. If you get competitive in games it's so easy for this game to suck you down a vortex of improvements millisecond by millisecond, you've finally defeated all your friends and you think there's no way anyone could best your time and then you look up the world record and start crying. I love this game and I'll easily sink 300 more hours in trying to reach the very top. Overall, It's like the gameplay of neon white 😀, ...mixed wit the story of neon white 🤮, why anime, why must you ruin everything I love

Okay so I got 6 hours in this game which makes it enough to review it according to its gameplay. I'm not going to speak anything lore - wise though. Holy SPEED, this game isn't really made for you to look at the environments but more for speedrunning them (Yup, and the game gives you points based on how fast you finish a level) with an incredible soundtrack made by Machine Girl who's a duo that makes Jungle / DnB. It really makes you wanna go fast each time the music kicks in. It's interesting how the concept of guns being cards it's used because there's no distractions when playing the game and everything is pretty much intuitive. You can tell how many times the devs iterated when making the game. The only complains I have about the game is that the dialogue is kinda cringey and it's made that way because it feels like it's parodying the old edgy 00's videogame aesthetics with a character who flirts around with the hot girls and tries to be sexy but... he's just not because, apparently, he's scared of women. If you find that the dialogues are pretty cringy just read them fast, cringe, and then move on. And the other one being the gifts system, it doesn't really add much besides knowing each Neon more and more with some sidequests in between that just gives you... more character... insights? That doesn't motivates you to get them all. Maybe there's some intetion behind them? I don't know it yet, but if I do, I'm going to update the review. Setting that aside, the game has a lot of replayability letting you finish the missions first and then come back for the gifts and complete what you left behind score and time wise.

Everything about this game is amazing! The story is engaging, the levels are unique and well made, and all the mechanics feel super smooth and fleshed out. This game is one of my all time favorites on both Xbox and PC, you won't regret it!

Best game Ive ever played. 11/10 Its got a good story, the character design is great, and it tickles the speed freak part of my brain It runs super well on my i5 + 3060 mobile, and even runs at 40FPS on my potato that I use for work. Advice: Don't play this on a trackpad or controller, keyboard and mouse is the way to go I love the soundtrack, Im not sure why it receives negative rep for that, it suits the game really well. There are lots of levels - the only reason ive finished it is because I spend a little too long each day playing it. The mechanics took a few levels to get used to, but then you really get into the flow of it. The only things I would say is that some of the voice lines are a little cringey, but I normally play with subtitles on and sound off (I listen to the soundtrack on another device) But otherwise, buy this game

This game is pure bliss, how the cards interact with the world and the risk reward of discarding cards or keeping them keeps you on your toes. The levels are excellently designed, with each having different routes which help you get faster times. And the story... its ok, not horrible, not a masterpiece and sometimes makes me laugh (if you just want to play the levels, you can skip all the dialogue).

Its peak but speedrunning, An incredible game and experience, the music truly fits astonishingly with the game itself, storywise its a bit slow but honestly as White get's his memories it gets better and better. Artstyle is pretty baller too. All n all an incredible experience, hitting top 5k global on some of the levels made me feel unstoppable(except by the 5k ahead of me) 10/10, A speedrunners dream.

Addicting gameplay, electrifying music (seriously, check out Machine Girl), and some of the most clever and smoothest flowing level design I've seen in years. Absolutely fantastic gem of an indie game. Story and dialogue are a bit cringe, but just embrace it and have fun

Speedrunning Vibes: Neon White has this addictive speedrunning energy that makes you want to keep improving your time, level after level. I found myself replaying random stages just to push my score up from a humble 900th place to a slighly more humbler 876th. It’s the kind of game where shaving off fractions of a second feels like a huge achievement. Cool Story: The story has this quirky charm to it. Sure, some might call it cringe, and honestly, I get it, but the voice actors really nailed their performances. They brought so much life to the lines that the cringiness just kind of melts away, and you end up getting sucked into the world anyway, as the DEVs even said that the game is made for Freaks by Freaks, which it's quite funny lol. Amazing Music: And let’s talk about the music Neon White’s soundtrack is straight-up fire. The vibe is intense and catchy, and it sticks with you long after you’ve turned the game off. Machine Girl really delivered with the tunes here; they’re memorable and add so much energy to the whole experience.

I love how Neon White gets you into the mindset of a speed runner. It's so much fun to continue improving on your own times. The story and dialogue is corny as hell but you can simply skip through those. I did too at some point.

Would buy Neon White at full price. The gameplay is super satisfying and well made: Speedrunning to the end and finding out shortcuts built into the rooms is half the fun and you will genuinely feel yourself becoming better and experienced at the game, and the actual platforming is tight and responsive with enough mechanics to shake things up. The dialog is so bad that it's good and genuinely I'm sure the devs wrote it all ironically, just enjoy it for how bad it is

Really good game, levels are quite short and you can replay them multiple times to get the best time and find secrets. The story is a bit silly but there are some likeable characters. Totally recommend

Neon White is ALMOST an amazing game. It has amazing gameplay, beautiful scenery, and an absolute banger of a soundtrack by Machine Girl, but there is a glaring issue. The story is fine, but the dialogue is the problem. Imagine talking to a 13 year old that just discovered knives and My Chemical Romance, that pretty much sums it up. It seems like a jab at cringy animes, but it's hard to say for sure. I personally don't have a problem with it, but it really depends if you're willing to make it through some cringy/weird dialogue to get to excellent gameplay. 8.5/10

my "i hate platformers, never played a shooter" sister has stuck to this game like glue and has crushed all my scores. its nice to finally be able to compete/collab w/ her in a competitive setting for the first time, for that i am very grateful to this game. 10/10 revival of melee's break the targets. you never know who will stick to this game, time trial games are extremely underrated and i wouldnt be surprised to see more of this style of game pop off soon

This game is a ton of fun. Difficulty is not too high, though it will take some practice and definitely a few runs on each level to get that Ace. Runs flawlessly so far on the Steam Deck, rock solid 90 fps. Great for quick gameplay bursts if you don't have time to sit down for an extended gaming session.

If you enjoy games, this is a good game for you. The story isn't great, and I would skip it, but the gameplay is some of the best I've ever seen, and makes you feel like a speedrunner. Not that much more to say but if you like speed its very good, minor fps elements with a focus on movement.

While I certainly see the appeal of the game, to me there's an essential aspect missing. This being the lack of momentum being able to be generated by the player (e.g.. sliding down sloped areas, bunnyhops). While the weapon cards and level design do give more options for player-expression, to me it still felt limiting in what you could do. On the positive side I do want to commend the creativity of the weapon cards and the built-in leaderboard for friendly competition. Given that I haven't finished the game and refunded it, I did not get to experience *all* the characters had to offer, but from what I did see, it seems that they are written as obviously ironic stereotypes, this is not a dealbreaker or sellingpoint for me, but I'm sure other people would find more joy in it than I did. To me the game comes down to personal enjoyment, and I just simply didn't.

Very accessible and has a sky-high skill ceiling. Also, the soundtrack is full of absolute bangers. The level design, movement, and shooting all feel fantastic. Speedrunning and beating your best time feels great because everything feels fluid and responsive. If you want tight gameplay, replayability, and going fast, then I cannot recommend Neon White enough.
