Gothic 1

This was the best game when I remember playing it as a kid in 2005, and it still holds that title in my opinion. The story is very immersive and the developers had made the game very lively. The replay value here is massive, as with Gothic 2 and Gothic 3. The combat and controls do take some getting used to. The game will be hard to run on modern rigs however, the community is still very much alive and very friendly to offer help. There is a big mod scene for this game and the rest of the series as well.

The controls are horrendous and the menus feel cheap. Once you get passed that there is a fun immersive old school adventure waiting to be explored, with quest and loot to discover. Its good so far for its time.

Gothic 1 is a gem that has aged surprisingly well. From the moment you step into its gritty medieval world, you can feel the atmosphere wrapping around you. The story hooks you right away: you play as a prisoner thrown into a magical barrier, and your journey to navigate this dangerous land is filled with memorable characters and quests that keep you engaged. What I love most about Gothic is its unique approach to character progression. Instead of the usual leveling system, you develop your skills based on your choices and actions, which makes for a more personalized experience.

absolutley PEAK rpg only complaints are that the controls are pretty clunky and there are a couple of bugs here and there

game looks good, but i can't even play this, because it crashes and says "access violation".

An outstanding, if a bit janky, adventure. The combat and general interactions are quite difficult to get used to, but once it clicks you have a gem of a game with writing that is probably funnier than it should be and a combat system that feels like they were trying to make you feel every swing and spell.

Damn, never thought a game from 2001 would be this good. Arguably the best RPG. The Controls are a bit weird at the start, but once gotten used to it makes the game more immersive.

Highly recommending to try the game and play it for yourself. It is a treat to learn, and one of the games that are so janky, they are good. The game is great up until the ending that was scuffed. But otherwise, I have happily been playing the game until that bit. The finale itself is VERY anti-climactic and a sequel bait. The vibes were also immaculate.

You know the game is good when it has at least 1 iconic line you will remember decades later. "What is the name of our God?"

Even so old this is still a good game. Only some problem with steering at the begining. Very good game in old style forcing you to think.

Love this game always come back to it. sadly it hardly runs on new systems but with a little work and some hacks you can get it to run and better then it did back in the day. It's still buggy and even the game itself has some glitches but it's fun and always will be epic

Really nice with unreal engine. so that the game is even good to play in 2025! you only have to go to settings and go for the Beta Option and choose unreal option. if you get it in a Sale you wont miss anything a good old classic with nice graphics for the age of the game!

5/10 - I've now played through it for the first time and remember trying the game 1-2 years after release, but thought my copy was broken because the mouse didn't work in the game. Today I know: there is no mouse support! But that's not all: very complicated controls, lots of backtracking, boring fetch and bring quests, difficult battles with multiple enemies, some catastrophic design decisions (e.g. a tower you can teleport into but can't leave without detours) and some bugs. I understand that you can like it from a nostalgic point of view and it can certainly still find some new fans today, but for me playing through it was more work than play and therefore not a recommendation.

This was the first game on CD I got for Christmas over 16 years ago and I [b]fell in love with it[/b]. [h3]You start from scratch and gradually work your way up to become the greatest Schwarzenegger in the colony.[/h3] And that's what you want.

This game is the most jankiest game ive ever played. 10/10
