Pros: I played this on the Steam Deck. It ran well. I didn't run into any bugs and got solid fps. This is great for quick game sessions on the SD. The game play was fun! Think Diablo meets Hades with some rogue like elements such random maps, charms, relics, and side quests but with a simple hack and slash combat. The music and art were great! The music was evocative and set the mood for the different areas. The pixel art was detailed and had lots of variety. Cons: The story well not bad was a little weak. Verdict: I would recommend this game for some light fun. It is not long and is easy to pick and put down. It also has both online and couch coop which is awesome! I will replaying this one with my wife in the near future.

Pretty decent and fun roguelike. Charming story, beatiful graphics and nice gameplay. The artstyle feels lovely - some mix of steampunk, tribal elements and fantasy. The main story is good enough, a bunch of short side quests that fulfill the world and Bergson's story. Several playable characters, which one feels unique to play. Highly recommend to play with friend to have a lot of fun with mixing characters and mixing their styles.

Very fun RPG/roguelike with multiple characters and good story. Multiplayer worked for me seamlessly.

Great concept and amazing gameplay loop. Yes the game is a roguelike but it plays more like a RPG with mini-roguelikes as levels. Combat is really smooth and every character has their style you have to play around. I like how the story is told in short bursts altough it does get a bit longwinded and cheesy at times. I didn't really enjoy the final levels either. All in all a great roguelike I definitely recommend.

I don't know that this is a roguelite in the truest sense of the word, but this is a wonderful and engaging game. There's plenty of progression and things to do between runs, the game is beautiful, and the characters are different enough to make them feel worthwhile. The story is particularly interesting, and I find I'm looking forward to learning more. If I wanted to find a flaw, I'd say some folks might find it a bit too easy. Personally, I have zero issues with it, but that's the closest thing I've got to a 'complaint'. Absolutely worth grabbing, especially if you can do so on sale.

accessible roguelike with a story and easy to set up multiplayer, recommend if you don't mind it being slightly barebones.

I started this game back in semester 4 and just recently finished it. I played most of it during the Iran-Israel war, and it was a great escape from all the news. Overall, it’s a really good game with an immersive atmosphere that can keep you entertained for hours. But it had two issues. I played the Persian version, and sometimes the voiceovers would cut out or the language would randomly switch these bugs became more frequent toward the end of the game. Another issue I had was that, apart from Lucy and Linda, the other characters were completely useless to me I never played with them, as they seemed poorly designed. All in all, I definitely recommend trying it out.

Beautiful for a pixel-art game. Great story. Good narration. Varied gameplay. Love it. The hype was worth it

An okay little wholesome game to enjoy a few hours, possibly with a friend in co-op. It's a bit too shallow to really drag you in the long run: it's short, the gameplay is very simple without much difficulty nor variety, and the story probably won't surprise you. Still, I enjoyed its cozy art style and simplicity.

I enjoy rogue-like/lite games, and this was recommended to me for its fun gameplay, pixelated artstyle, and the coop mode. However, the story in the main story is pretty engaging and I found myself deeply invested in it. To quote Dom from the Fast and Furious series: "Everyone's looking for a thrill, but what's real is family."

Played on steamdeck worked great, similar to Hades but easier. Cool story, wholesome family tropes, exciting gameplay, reasonable not grindy progression. Characters play differently so everyone can find something for themselves. I only really liked 3 of them and played a bit with others but it's doable to finish the game using exclusively what you like. Dying is not to punishing and game is easy enough to pick up for 15 minutes here and there on SD.

A great little game! Not much to say other than if you love Enter the Gungeon or Hades, you will love this! The story is done a little differently, and the art style is lovely!

While the combat may not be the most exciting offering in the roguelite genre, there’s still a lot to love in Children of Morta. Beautiful pixel artwork keeps things visually interesting, and is especially well done in touching family moments. The visual flare of many of the special abilities and attacks is also another positive, though the screen can get a bit too busy in large group fights. Children of Morta manages to tell an emotionally resonant story, perhaps in spite of its simplicity, relying on the power of family to drive things home. Dont really have much of an opinion on this one. Its ok ig. Having to grind for one or two achievements annoyed me a bit but it doesnt really take that long when youve got the right guides.

Unable to play in multiplayer: - invite friend - friend accepts - i then accept the accepted invited friend (what the.. why? I've never seen this in steam-multiplayer) - nothing happens next Sound settings are buggy I'd probably find more negatives if I got to actually play the game. So far even the aesthetic is disappointing.

This is a story focused roguelike, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. But in this case, the story delivery is relatively dry and feels detached from progression. I think that the main thing that keeps me playing a roguelike is the motivation to push further into meta progression, and the detachment between the story related cutscenes and gameplay progression is a step in the wrong direction. Taking into consideration a mundane gameplay loop and the result is faster gameplay fatigue in a genre which is already about repetition. If you need to kill some time it might be worth it, on a very deep sale.

unfun. it looks gorgeous but thats about it. gameplay loop and story are boring. multiplayer only working for 2 people should be a sign that something was very wrong.

This game is more annoying than fun to play. You basically need to keep pressing esc all the time to skip the endless amounts of cutscenes thrown at you. And when you get to play and find a character that is fun to play, you are hit with some 'corruption fatigue' BS that makes it so the character has lowered stats in order to 'persuade' you to play the other characters. This games devs don't value your time and really don't care if you have fun. For a Roguelike this game is trash.

Recommended but ONLY if you plan on playing it with your kids. It's a very kid-friendly roguelite. You only have 3 active abilities + an occasional power up. Character skill trees are short with few options. Combat is easy and the story is heavily focused on family. It's obvious that this game was meant to be played by parents & kids. It's simple, small, runs great, and is easy for anybody over 7 to understand and play. Not recommended for adults who want to play alone or with other adults.

JFC what a TRASH gameplay! I love roguelites, they're my favorite genre and I feel like I'm well-experienced in the area to point some of the problems with this game. It's combat is SO janky that's barely unplayable: starting with the dash-ability having a ridiculous long cooldown and the block only works when it wants to, but the balance in general of the game is off, I got only to dungeon 2 on map 1 and got stuck with maybe 6 or 7 runs with no progress besides the main story, the upgrades are unnoticible. Character is weak AF and mobs are far too many with far too much damage considering the ridiculously long cooldown your skills have. Pretty much you have only your primary with one-single-use-dash, a shield and a wave of melees and ranged mobs to parry and dash. It's literally - literally literally - impossible. You see yourself with half or less HP the majority of your run with luckily being able to heal before some big encounter (never happened tho). Talking about the story now, that's the only thing that kept me trying to play it: Art style, voice acting and the story itself are great, sound design is cool too, almost felt like a Diablo roguelite, but oh boy, I ain't no masochist to keep doing this. Last game I felt like a useless little shit like this was Hades and I dropped as soon as I reached the summit once, this game made me give up sooner, because the characters are as shallow as they can be, differently from Hades with it's rich and deep story and character-development. Well, after all that, I'm not refunding it tho, maybe someday the Devs launch an update or hotfix or maybe some tweaks here and there to make the game more balanced and I surely will try it again. Until that, unnistalling and moving on.

Let me say 1 NICE thing before I smack around 11bit studios like the drunken stepdad that they never had. The pixel art was so good. At many times through out the game the pixel art was like Michelangelo sculpting Beethoven, while Beethoven played the piano that was being TUNED by Leonardo Davinci. And also Leo was probably being cheered on by a bunch of bikini babes, holding cups of your favorite beverage and they are also holding machine guns. I love great pixel art and these guys did a fair display. I can look past the fact that the game is boring. Lets make it clear that the game truly is boring. Its about as fun as getting to know bikini babes that wield machine guns. Thats soooo much delicious eye candy and its amazing. But most of them have boyfriends so you cant shoot your shot with them. And by the law of averages, the remaining babes are just crazy. I mean, maybe you could sleep with one, but thats not a good foundation for a proper relationship. Youd definetly regret it. Much like how I regret buying this game. Basically its like they gave up half way through the game because they ran out of time or money or something. This is a half game. It definatly feels like a half game. Selling half of a game is an insult. Its a bad game. They should feel ashamed. This game is like if you cut diablo 2 in half. Worse than that actually. On that that note whens the last time you played diablo 2? You should probably play diablo 2 instead of buying this game. And heres the worse thing. 11 Bit Studios is WOKE now. It really hurts but it shouldent be a surprise. They sold out. Good for them...Maybe? They got all that WOKE money. But now we are stuck with a trash game legacy. 11bit studios will be trash from here on out. say good bye to your favorite indie studio

The pretentious story cannot overcome the horrible pixelated graphics. It looks like a 30 year old game. Who wants that when we have powerful computers. The devs are either lazy or incompetent. Writing code to make a game interesting can't be that hard can it ? There's no immersion when everything is out of focus with heavy pixelation.
