Let me preface/be transparent by saying I freaking loved this team's previous game, Narita Boy. So I had some bias coming into this. That said, this plays completely differently from Narita Boy so I wasn't sure I would like the core game. The demo sold me, and the full game ended up being something I consider to be incredible. Trailers don't lie in that this game is all about incredibly responsive and tight controls, endorphin inducing scenarios and music, and that each stage is a "tactical playground." Especially later ones. I'm not the type to chase high scores against myself per se but this game naturally brought it out in me. In short here are my pros and cons. Pros: -Amazing game feel -Fantastic and appropriate music -Good carrots to chase with unlock systems -Oozing with style both in gameplay and presentation -Challenging but doable for many skill levels* *End game gets tough but if you made it there, you'll find a way Cons: Uhhhhh, tough to come up with genuine critiques. -I ran into like 2 bugs during this? One had me restart a level, one slowed my time a bit -The truly challenging stuff isn't offered until really late game. But that's not inherently a bad thing -And we have to wait until we get this studio's next game. I highly recommend this game if you enjoyed Katana Zero and Celeste. Elements of Super Meat Boy, too.

Studio Koba’s follow up to Narita Boy is, like its predecessor, a fast-paced 2D action platformer, but leans more into the arcade mode, with short levels, and less of a story. It has fabulously fluid movement and razor-sharp controls. The moveset is pretty complex as you switch quickly between the two playable characters - even towards the end of my time with it I would hit the wrong button now and again - but deeply satisfying when you pull it all together. It’s a relatively hard game, and will require repeated runs at most levels (there are 40+), especially if you’re going for all the collectibles and high scores. The collectibles are very enticing, by the way, especially the ones that unlock codex entries. The pixel art is very good. I especially love Haneda Girl’s small character sprite. The interactions between her and Professor Nakamura are fun, featuring some excellent references back to Narita Boy. The music is superb: pulsing 80s beats, which complement the frantic action perfectly. All the colourful explosions and busy screens reminded me a bit of Dead Cells; and it also has some stuff in common with Katana Zero, especially in terms of level design. It’s an intense experience, which is perhaps best played in short bursts, especially if, like myself, your capacity for frantic action, and your old person reflexes, aren’t what they used to be! A wonderful game that will be among my favourites of 2025. (It runs well on Steam Deck, both handheld and docked).

Ok. Let's start by saying ...
It's not NARITA.... BOY!!
... I know. But I was really, REALLY wishing for a direct sequel (I consider the first instalment of the Trichroma saga a full-fledge masterpiece. One I always remember, and fondly!) Sooooo Yes, Haneda girl (new hero, new airport!) is a good game, and among its peers is really addictive and fun (almost 100% completion, but the last three levels were too much intense for me. Still completed it). Gameplay wise, the game's a fast, action-packed precision platform (a genre that I don't particularly like, but still play. Plus, It's the Narita saga!) that gets the job done. Story, settings and soundtrack? good... but I can't stop comparing it to the masterpiece that is Narita Boy, and this is a bit of a let down. Still, great game from developers that really need to be supported! Ah, and
may the Trichroma be with you!
P.S. .... I know, but I must ask... Narita boy 2 when?? ;)

Fast, neon lightning, electric and fun to replay to try elevating your score per level. Kind of a arcade style game, it's a bunch of tiny level you need to master to get the highest score (and yes it's literally one hit-one shot). Really fun !

As I sworn to myself to get the Platinum Score every level, yeah, I love this game. Does that mean the Plats in this game are too easy? I don't think so. They aren't developer scores and are an important collectible shared with Gold Scores, but they defiantly challenge players to create routes and execute them along with paying attention to what actions give the most points. Those skills are not something I expect most players to even think about trying right away unless they are hungry for score medals like I am. Anyway, this game may not look the part it but stealth is also very important especially if you want to get away with high scoring kills. Enough rambling on, just play this game. SDP go brrrrrrrrr. nuf said.

Easily one of the best games I've ever played. Completed it 100% with platinum ranks on all levels. Every challenge was fair, intense and deeply rewarding. The gameplay is sharp, stylish and addictive. Interestingly, I spent almost the same amount of time on the demo as I did completing the full game. The music is absolutely phenomenal, addictive and energizing. I even found myself forgetting to play because I was so into the soundtrack. Huge thanks to Studio Kuba for delivering this gem. A game I won’t forget and I can’t wait to see what they create next!

Just like Narita Boy, Haneda Girl is an audiovisual masterpiece, the only flaw in those categories I can think of is the pink shade on some of the M.O.T.H.E.R frames; It doesn't really feel good, but with how fast-paced the game is, situations when I looked at that sprite I could count on one hand. The plot exists, but you could finish the game without paying attention to it. The gameplay is fast and fun, there are many mechanics to understand, remember and correctly join them in a sequence during game. The only other things I can complain about are: having to press two buttons to go down from platform, which slowed the gameplay for me; requirements for best ranks on levels being often being too low, there were many levels that I got platinum the first time I finished it; sometimes it is a little bit laggy, but that may be because I played it through proton on Linux; sticking to ledges and walls, I'm not sure why, but I struggled quite a lot when trying to go around or close to them, instead sticking to it.

Haneda Girl, which as far as I can tell is in a shared thematic universe with Narita Boy, is an awesome action platformer in the vein of Katana Zero. There is challenge, but I still feel that the game is accessible, and there is room to grow in skill as measured by in game time and rank metrics. What I appreciate most however is how easy it is to pick up the game when you have a little spare time, but that you can also invest extended gaming sessions into it as well -- something that is mostly impossible in modern gaming, and supports people with busier schedules (or lots of homework). 10/10
