Overall, Vampyr is a good game and worth playing multiple times. There are very few games where the player takes on the role of a vampire 1-Story ✅ Positive Points -Dr. Jonathan Reid is a compelling main character, struggling with guilt, logic vs. emotion, and personal responsibility. His inner conflict gives the narrative emotional weight. -The story slowly reveals layers of vampire society, secret factions, and hidden agendas -Decisions you make—like who to kill or spare— or who turn vampire(only main characters ) -Many NPCs have their own backstories, secrets, and relationships ❌ Negative Points -The story can feel slow at times, especially in the middle chapters, with too much dialogue and backtracking between districts. -While most dialogue is well-written, some conversations feel dragged out or overly formal, which slows the momentum. -Jonathan sometimes says things in cutscenes that contradict how you've played (e.g., expressing guilt even if you didn’t kill anyone). 2-Movements ✅ Positive Points you can teleport only where scripted you can short dash you can dodge ❌ Negative Points -you can't freely teleport -you can't jump -you can't Crouch or Sneak -you can't climb ledges or scale buildings -you can't vault over low walls -you can't swim 3-Combat System ✅ Positive Points -level up system -The combat system uses a tri-resource mechanic (Health, Stamina, Blood) -You can unlock and upgrade a variety of supernatural powers—such as Blood Spear, Shadow Veil, and Claws -Biting Mechanic , Staggering enemies lets you bite them mid-fight to regain blood ❌ Negative Points -Fights often follow the same pattern: hit, dodge, stun, bite, repeat & repeat -Poor Hit Detection & sometimes miss even when they visually connect -No Combo System or Advanced Tactics -You can't use the environment during fights -weapons most feel similar in use, and there’s little reason to switch between them -Limited Weapon Customization 4-Enemies & Enemy Types ✅ Positive Points -Enemy Factions Have Unique Themes & combat -Enemies can inflict effects like burn, bleed, or stun -Some areas have higher-level enemies, which pushes you to explore the world carefully and return later when stronger -Enemies are placed logically based on their lore -Enemy factions fight each other without your involvement ❌ Negative Points -Enemy types are limited and start repeating quickly -Some enemies—especially bosses or elites—feel unfairly strong, not due to smart design but due to inflated damage or awkward AI behavior. -Enemies respawn quickly in certain areas -when enemies fighting each other if one enemy see you , all enemies making ally to kill you -The designs change slightly, but their behavior doesn't. 5-Traveling & Movement Between Districts ✅ Positive Points -no loading screens between districts. -As you progress, you can open gates and doors that make revisiting places faster, somewhat easing backtracking. ❌ Negative Points -There’s no fast travel at all. You're forced to walk across large areas repeatedly, which becomes tedious -Jonathan walks and runs at a fairly slow pace, and there’s no mount, sprint boost, or teleport for long distances 6-Citizens & Citizens Menu ✅ Positive Points -The menu shows how citizens are connected to each other (family, friends, lovers, rivals) -You can track hints you've unlocked for each citizen, which improves their blood quality and helps with decisions. -The menu shows the overall status of each district (e.g., Stable, Critical, Hostile), helping you manage the world’s balance. -Unlocking citizens’ secrets and backstories gives real gameplay benefits (more XP if embraced), encouraging you to talk, explore, and investigate. -you can eavesdrop on Citizens for gathering information but There are only a small number of eavesdropping moments in the entire game ❌ Negative Points -There’s no way to sort citizens by health status, XP value, or missing hints. A filter/search feature would have made it much more user-friendly. -The menu is mostly static text and icons. It lacks dynamic visual feedback or character animations that could enhance immersion. -You can't directly use the menu to trigger missions, mark citizens, or fast-locate them on the map—it’s only informational. -some citizens don’t really affect the world even if they’re linked to others. 7-Loot & Economy ✅ Positive Points -You can collect ingredients like reagents, chemicals, and parts that are used for crafting medicine, serums, and weapon upgrades -Loot is hidden in drawers, chests, alleyways, and homes, encouraging you to search every corner of the map. -Traders sell upgrade materials, medicine ingredients, and weapons. It gives a reason to visit specific merchants, especially in later chapters. ❌ Negative Points -Money isn’t very important.By mid-game, you’ll often have more money than you need, removing urgency from purchases. -After a few hours, you’ll mostly find the same items over and over—grease, screws, opium, etc.—which makes looting less exciting. -Whether you play as a killer or pacifist, loot remains the same

This game has incredible atmosphere and puts a lot of emphasis on the NPCs and their interpersonal relationships. That is the main appeal of the game, in my opinion, and it did that really well. If you choose to consume a person, you will have to think about the consequences it will have on the whole district they belong to, and their relatives/friends. And you will also have to consider that, to get the most EXP from consuming a character, you will need to unlock all the clues about who they are... and you can find yourself surprised that some people you first assumed to be just terrible, "oh I can kill them without guilt!", might actually make you reconsider as they turn out to be peple you might sympathise with. And vice-versa. The music is top tier. I'm speechless trying to explain it. The OST for the hospital (in many ways, your main district) is so special to me - many times, you'll find yourself coming back there from unsafe streets, and hearing that calm and melancholic tune when you approach the hospital still gives me chills. On the things people might dislike, however: The game will have you running around a lot. Back and forth between districts. This might be frustrating to a lot of people, especially because the game doesn't have a minimap (very odd decision from the devs). I personally like it, it adds to the atmosphere every seems to like about this game. Knowing districts and their shortcuts (and also each character's different locatios) like the back of your hand is part of the experience. You also have to accept that the main character, Jonathan, is not you. You don't have a lot of room to manoeuvre his personality around. It's the main criticism I'd have: for a game that centers around making decisions about killing people or not (none? just one? a few? many?), it doesn't provide a lot of changes in the main character himself. Although, you can easily just view him as a cold blooded killer who destroys entire districts while still pretending to be the nice, helpful doctor. Overall, a very memorable game in my opinion.

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 244: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆☆☆ (5/10) There are games you respect more than you enjoy, and for me, Vampyr is one of those. A moody, choice-driven vampire RPG set in 1918 London? That's basically custom-designed to appeal to me. Its themes, tone, and moral systems are genuinely compelling, and its setting is one of the best in any vampire game. But while the ideas here are rich and ambitious, the actual experience is too often clunky, punishing, and repetitive. It wants to be meaningful, but playing it just isn’t very fun. It’s a shame, because Vampyr had the potential to be a modern classic. Instead, it’s a moody, middling tragedy of its own. 🦇 Pros:

The setting and atmosphere are absolutely killer (pun intended). Post-WWI London in the grip of the Spanish Flu is the perfect environment for a vampire story. Every alley is soaked in fog and grime, the lighting is sickly yellow or oil-lamp orange, and the buildings loom over you like decaying tombstones. It’s dark, oppressive, and eerily beautiful. This is the rare game where just being in the world is compelling. It nails the gothic tone with visual storytelling alone, from abandoned hospitals to crumbling cathedrals.
Your actions have actual consequences. Unlike a lot of morality systems that just boil down to “good ending vs. bad ending,” Vampyr goes deeper. Every citizen you meet has a name, relationships, a story, and gameplay impact. Choosing whether or not to feed on someone changes the health and stability of their district. Feed too much, and an entire zone can collapse into chaos. It’s not just flavor: it’s gameplay. You’re constantly weighing power against conscience.
The game genuinely rewards investigation and dialogue. You don’t just "unlock" citizens’ XP value—you earn it. Learning more about them through conversations, piecing together their stories, and healing them from their sicknesses increases their "value" as prey. It’s a twisted but fascinating system that rewards empathy even if you plan to betray them later. The more time you spend with people, the more you understand what you’re about to destroy. It's deeply unsettling and effective.
Romance is subtle, tragic, and mature. Without giving too much away, there’s a slow-burn romance that actually feels grounded in the narrative’s themes of guilt, redemption, and longing. It's not "press X to kiss" stuff—it feels earned and woven into the emotional tone of the game. I love yearning in my vampire media!
Moral ambiguity is not just for show. The central dilemma—do you feed, or do you starve?—is not an easy one. Every kill feels like a failure, but every refusal makes you weaker. It’s not just a philosophical question—it’s mechanical. And that makes it all the more effective. There's a real tension between your desire to do good and the necessity of strength. Few games capture that as well.
🩸 Cons:

Combat quickly becomes a repetitive, joyless grind. While it’s not broken, Vampyr’s combat never quite becomes fun. It lacks finesse. Dodging feels sluggish, parries are finicky, and enemy attack patterns can be oddly janky. You’ll end up spamming the same combos over and over because the enemy variety is limited and encounters rarely evolve. Bosses aren’t memorable so much as annoying, often with long health bars and little mechanical depth.
Enemies constantly respawn, making exploration exhausting. Every time you return to a previously cleared area, you’ll have to fight the same enemies again. And again. And again. It kills the pacing and discourages exploration, especially when all you want to do is deliver medicine or finish a side quest. You can’t just soak in the atmosphere—you have to claw your way through the same enemy types repeatedly, which makes the backtracking-heavy map structure deeply tedious.
Being “merciful” makes the game actively harder—and not in a fun way. The XP system is heavily skewed in favor of feeding. If you choose the high road, you’ll gain far less experience, meaning your healing, stamina, and damage output will lag behind—sometimes dramatically. While the idea is narratively sound (sacrifice power for morality), the balance tips too far. It's not challenging in a rewarding way—it's just punishing. If you have more patience than me, you maybe won't mind.
There’s no way to avoid combat, which breaks immersion. In a game about moral choices, the fact that you can’t bypass enemies with stealth or clever navigation feels like a huge missed opportunity. You must fight—over and over—even when it doesn’t serve the story or mood. A smarter game would’ve let you sneak past or talk your way out of some encounters. You'll have to face the smash trash mobs over and over again.
Navigation and map design are a mess. The world is atmospheric, yes—but the actual layout is confusing, samey, and frustrating. There’s no fast travel, and the winding streets all blend together. When paired with constant enemy respawns, this turns the back half of the game into a slog.
A great old game. Miss these days of simplicity. Had the occasional crash but the game works on a slight grinding path, but if you hate that then just take out everyone but risk losing side tasks an story lines. Tricky moments and it requires patience and tact with the fights

Story seems to be interesting but combat is kinda badly designed and the dialogue choices are pretty poorly explained. The only way to know what a dialogue option does is by googling it. If you don't and you make the wrong choice? Well just RESTART THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME because there is no quick saves or manual saves, just auto saves. Btw why do loading times take an eternity? Im using a Radeon RX 7600 XT which should be far beond the recomended card

Love this game! Best portrayal of vampires I've seen and I love the voice acting. The story draws me in and the choices feel like they impact the whole world around me. Its horrifying yet inciting. I need another game that scratches this itch, but I just cant seem to find one like it. The closest I've found is A plague tale.

Older game, but still has some charm. The lack of quick travel is aggravating and it is hard to tell where you have been. Essentially forces you to kill civilians, even if you try not to, and the consequences are hard to determine until they happen. Love the story and the aesthetic.

I don't like to leave reviews on games that I haven't spent under 24 hours of time playing when its a story based game, but this one is unfortunately an exception. I so badly want to like this game. because the concept is so incredibly intriguing, but it just doesnt feel good. combat feels clunky, character movement feels floaty and wobbly, target locking jolts you around unnaturally, and things keep bugging out. in a 6 ish hour play session i ran in to 4 separate bugs where things were not triggering correctly, and when i did some research into these bugs, i found that they have been known issues for literal *years*. That shouldn't be happening, not in 2025 in a game that released in 2018. maybe ill give this game another shot later and maybe my opinion will change, but right now it's just completely off putting

Steam shows I have 45 hours in this game and I just got to my first ending of the game. My only real complaint with this was the lack of fast travel between safe areas, but as a result I was able to craft just about anything I needed for my specific build. I enjoyed the choices and the consequences, and just as in real life it was often tough to live with those choices no matter how well intentioned the decisions were. This game reminded me a lot of Vampire the Masquerade, but with a lot more combat and that Vampyr actually runs on modern windows systems. I mostly went with a human type build but at one point (for story reasons) I went on a killing spree, it was at that moment I realized just how amazing this game does at making you feel like the apex predator vampires actually are. Too many games focus on their political games and not enough on how terrifyingly powerful they can be.

Combat - Dogshit, about as good a roblox game Graphics - Alright, environments are definitely the highlight but they start to feel the same over time Story - Very good, the only reason to play this game really If you know you are someone who can get enthralled in a good story then definitely pick this game up. You will be able to put up with the weaker parts of the game just for the excellent storylines.

To many this would be a minor inconvenience, but it put me off continuing to play this game. This is a very dialogue heavy game, and I want to go through the dialogue at my own pace. However, when you read a piece of dialogue, and want to skip to the next part, it will just cutoff the last part of the conversation. This will have you either always miss part of the conversation, or have to sit through every piece of dialogue. Unfortunately I just can't get myself to have to actually listen to all of these slow talking npc's. And the fact that after about 7 years, they still haven't fixed this, I cannot recommend this game to anyone. If after 7 years a game still has such a prevalent bug, it's not worth any price.

One of my favourite 'vibe' games. This game has a great atmosphere, let's you make impactful gameplay choices and face the consequences of your actions. Characters feel unique and you can feel their importance. Must play if you want some Victorian vibe.

This game is worth a play through. A modern title that requires little commitment and is easy to get into. All dialogue is skip-able if that's not your thing. And you can reset your abilities at any point. Combat isn't special but is flexible enough to be interesting. There might be more to the game but I didn't see any value in world scenarios and exploring houses/sewers. Maybe there is replay value I just don't see it.

Game had potential, yes, enjoyed the first few hours. But later on, it gets quite boring, slow and repetitive. Concept was quite unique, and yes, even story seemed to be a bit philosophical. I could not personally complete the game, but maybe it might suit others. Still, it is not really a bad game, but forgettable. The combat is a bit generic, but the story and choices you're presented with are what really drives this game imo. You really feel presented with the consequences of your chosen path through each interaction, slowly uncovering information on those around you. Highly recommend if you enjoy dialogue and story driven games, although I'd recommend trying to snag it when it's on sale!

I have mixed feelings about Vampyr: There are definitely things to appreciate here, for being an AA effort it tries its hardest to punch above its weight, however there's an unfortunate lack of focus and polish in several places. These are mostly related to the gameplay though even the story is dotted with missed opportunities and hanging plot threads that aren't satisfactorily resolved. The game starts off well; what begins with a straightforward search for answers over your vampiric condition quickly evolves into facing a pandemic, degenerate creatures stalking the night streets, and the human population trying to purge an early 900s London of your ilk. It doesn't take long for your character, Dr. Jonathan Reid, to be dragged into these conflicts while trying (or failing to) keep your fangs free of innocent blood. You soon become part of something greater than just yourself, with players from both the living and the dead looking into this mess, each with their own goals and agendas. It is an enticing hook and an interesting setting, so what's with the Not Recommended? Gameplay is what turns Vampyr into a frustrating experience, as the developers built its combat with a kitchen sink approach: We have a stamina system for attacks and dodges, which feels decent for single combat, yet the game likes to throw multiple foes your way; these enemies don't like to play by the rules either, they have infinite stamina / blood and employ cheap tactics and abilities without giving you respite. Additionally, there are issues with the level scaling and RPG elements. I understand what the developers were going for, you have to struggle and feel tempted to give up your morals if you're not draining the townsfolk dry for EXP, but it's cheap to fill previously traversed area with levelled versions of the same enemies you've just faced a few hours ago. It is also annoying to have them respawn everywhere in the city each time you rest to refill your consumables and level up. It's a mechanic made for Souls and adjacent games, and there it should stay. The game also features a crafting system, and the results of its inclusion are not wholly positive. Having to scrounge resources for medicine and consumables feels in tune with your profession, but why are weapons also included? There's a time and place for incremental systems, and this isn't one of them. It doesn't feel good to upgrade weapons to see them deal a little more damage than before. These are issues I could ignore if the narrative remained as solid as in the first few hours, unfortunately there are hiccups even on that side: NPC dialogue is often wooden and stilted, the camera work is mediocre (it even lacks a simple shot / reverse shot dynamic), the facial animations rigid, and even some voice performances don't feel up to the task. There are interesting story elements pruned before they could become interesting, and a baffling romance with a character that comes out of left field after being critical of her actions before. Most of all, I am disappointed with the way Vampyr doesn't let the pillar characters breathe past their dedicated chapter. You often deal with them in the one they're introduced in, a wasted opportunity in my opinion. I don't feel confident recommending this game to others. I put up with it since I generally like vampire fiction like Vampire the Masquerade, and there are familiar elements to be found here, but the bad really tests your patience and willingness to look past its flaws.

A decent game; I like the variety of weapons and abilities. I guess the variety of enemies could be bigger tho\ If you choose not to eat everybody -- you're gonna suffer hard, cuz the scaling in this game is quite unforgiving -- a regular mob one shot me with his one special attack cuz he's like 10 level above me; the game turns into fighting 'mini-bosses' everywhere XD

A história do jogo é bem boa, interessante e me prendeu bastante.

I got this game on sale for around $10, and if I'd payed any more than that for it, I would not be recommending it. Wait for it to go on sale - for anything more than the price of a fancy coffee, the atmosphere alone is not enough to salvage this title, and for me that was the best part of the game. In the entire game there's around seventeen different enemies, including all bosses, which include all variants of the twelve or so generic enemy types. You fight the same goons in the intro escape as you do in the final missions of the game. Combat is fine and enjoyable in a button-mashy type of way, but simple and repetitive, especially with the limited skills, combos and enemies available. Dialogue is where the game falls flat, entirely. In the beginning of the game I was paying painstaking attention to each branch of each character's dialogue tree. By the end of the game I was clicking and skipping through the cutscenes. Too many of the characters are too boring to care about, and the lack of an ability to skip through individual lines of dialogue to circumvent the sluggish voice acting is a huge detriment. (The space bar skips to the next character in the conversation's lines, potentially skipping several lines between). Most characters are oafish, aloof, or needlessly rude to the point that I wished I had no need to get to know them before murdering them - XP gained from sucking on blood is tied to your knowledge of the character. The story is more or less a big fat nothingburger. The familial tragedies were forced and awkward, and the romance was laughable and weightless. You play as a one-track, one-dimensional workaholic who has to save the day. Overall, it's just okay. Buy it on sale. PS. I tend to leave games running and walk away from my computer for hours, or even days at a time. I would estimate that a playthrough of this game would take between 15 and 20 hours, in spite of my larger hours played.

Vampyr is a unique mix of action and RPG set in 1918 London, where you play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a newly turned vampire trying to balance his medical oath with his thirst for blood. The story’s intriguing, with a heavy focus on morality: do you heal people or feed on them? The combat can feel clunky at times, but the world-building and choice-driven narrative really pull you in. It's a bit rough around the edges, but if you're into dark, atmospheric stories with tough decisions, it’s definitely worth a shot.

Special in their own way
Among the best
A lot
Very much
Liked it
It was cool
Finished it... had enough fun to give it a like though
I tried....
The game has some serious performance issues around one of the main areas, but besides that part it's ok. Only some minor hiccups and eventually some blurred textures on the characters. Also... the game only has autosave and doesn't have any load system; in case that's an issue for you, search the discussions about save backup. And also about how to unlock the fps if you want more than 60, but as stated above, the optimisation of the game is bad. Don't expect the game to run smooth as butter. But it's playable. One final observation: This game is not just a button smasher where you just throw skills around and get away with it. The combat is way more leaned towards soulslikes and similar. Keep that in mind. But for me, this is a big pro, I liked it very much.

The second best vampire game after: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines I think that should be enough merit right there. Good characters, good dialogue and a bit wonky combat, just like VTMB. The combat really is the only bad thing about the game, but then again, i did my first (and so far in writing) only playthrough by going the "good doctor" route, not killing any of the characters. I suppose the game would have been A LOT easier if i had sucked left and right, getting that sweet 5k xp per throat, instead of the 5xp per regular mob kill or 25xp per cured ailment, that was rough, but i did it. And in the end i think it was worth it. And i was glued to the game as soon as it picked up speed. My enjoyment score for this one is 86% The combat at times, drags down the enjoyment, the lack of I-frames for example and the homing melee attacks the mobs do, makes the dodging at times feel useless. Sometimes you enter a room and it turns into a boss fight, with my playthrough i felt like i was under leveled the entire time, but i still did it (sometimes i had to grind a few mobs before re-entering if i felt the boss was too unfair). I also felt like the map had a bit too little information, i kinda wish all characters had a dot on the map marked for them to lessen the confusion as to where the hell you found them. While the dialogue is good i felt about midway through that the only reason you need to go through all of it is either by your own personal interests to find out more lore, or get "hints" which will increase the quality of the characters blood so that you can get more XP, but since i went the no killing route, i just skipped a lot of those dialogue options after a while, but its still nice its there. Yeah, think thats all i want to say, good stuff.

Still one of the best modern vampire RPGs with a strong narrative focus. This is really a hidden gem, as the visuals have stood up to time and the game still looks great. When this game gets a deep discount (currently 7.99 as of writing this, 80% off) the game is remarkable buy.

The game's aesthetic and story is pretty nice. You simply play as a vampire doctor conflicting with his vampire hunger and saving lives. I, personally, found the story rather interesting and the combat quite simple and fun since you can update your character to be stronger and pick out certain abilities that catch your eye. The main issue is the game breaking glitched/bugs that you can easily encounter which will force you to make another save and play from the very beginning. Its extremely frustrating to restart a save when you're aiming for a achievement. To avoid this just close your game when you save at a HIDEOUT and not at an autosave which is what seems to bug cutscenes for me and how I seemed to solve this issue. Edit: The game is completely unplayable for me now. Edit Once again: Game is now playable again seems like I had issues with files I'd recommend the game. Just take precautions on when you decide to exit the game and make sure you don't screw up your own runs and maybe wait for a sale cause right now it is not worth the full price.

I wanted to like Vampyr, I really did. As someone with a deep love for the vampiric and the Edwardian era as a whole, when I saw this game it really felt like it was speaking to my soul. But as I fully went onward with the game, it quickly became something that was more like an underpaid juggling act than something enjoyable. Vampyr speaks to me like a game with beautiful scenery and a good plot in concept. More than anything, my favorite part about this game is the world it builds for itself both narratively and environmentally. The main characters are interesting and the concept of different vampire 'breeds' is very cool. But all in all, it feels like these concepts fell flat in the later stages of the game, and the characters begin to lack depth after a while. However, my primary issue with Vampyr is it's handling of mechanics and priorities. By the time you reach the midway point of the game, you are put in charge of multiple districts with countless people inside them. And unless you keep them all healthy, the areas become borderline impossible to navigate due to the impossible levels of the enemies. It then becomes exhausting looking for materials to make the medicine required, especially with zero fast travel available at any time. The whole health system of the districts, while neat in concept, eventually became very tiring to me by the 4th chapter, and it made me more than discouraged from playing. More importantly, however, the boss fights. Despite not being marketed as a soulslike, Vampyr absolutely is one. Although not as brutal as more recent titles like Elden Ring, Vampyr will absolutely grind your bones unless you choose to sacrifice a citizen, which will in turn just make the game harder. (it's clear to me that this is obviously a design choice, and that is what is intended, but it just became frustrating, rather than interesting.) This also does not assist the fact that Vampyr's boss fights are highly repetitive and rely very heavily on one method of attacking, which is stunning. Although there are other ways of attacking your enemies, they're otherwise far less useful or important, and when your opponents can often times half your health in one hit, the combat loses charm or excitement. Tl;dr I think Vampyr is a game that, while very aesthetically pleasing and interesting in some areas, becomes quite middling and tedious after long spans of gameplay, and both the exploration and fights outright discourage you from progressing any further.

Is this a perfect game? No, far from it. Combat is on the weaker side and gets kinda boring pretty quickly. But I'd say that the games story and general charm really makes up for it. I mean you get to play as a badass vampire doctor?!? What more could you need. Its a great story game but the combat is mediocre at best. So it really depends on whats the most important for you.

Honestly this is boring and tedious. The conversation with characters is so boring. The auto aim is annoying as hell with the switching targets, flipping your screen back in forth, when all you want is to focus on the one in front of you. Secondly, it really gets annoying with the amount of mobs, and not enough information on your abilities to make wise choices. For example the lunge ability, I assume that would be part of my own dodging ability (like the bite abilities are), but no its a separate that takes up a ability slot and doesn't do anything of actual value. Also, whats the point of having a stealth mechanic if the second I stun and bit, the mob calls out to every other mob in the area? I want a silent kill ability so I can chose to be stealthy and pick groups off instead being surrounded by mobs. Seriously lacking in the combat, game mechanics.
