Very engaging game. Extremely hard to catch onto at first but hang in there. Devs are still working on it but an awesome game here. Now that i'm almost to the end i can't wait to start again using what i learned along the way. Only negative thing is building placement is rough. the terrain limits your builds on uneven ground but i worked around it. 90Hrs in and loving it.

I am loathed to write this review as I earnestly want this game to be worth the price that I paid for it because I have been looking forward to having the time to invest in learning to play this game and do well. Having said that, here is my review: The good - 1) The game is great looking for a game that started development in 2018. 2) They spent a lot of time creating a unique look for every item and have done a lot of research into how other games have been influenced by the practical problems explorers attempting to colonize Mars should expect to encounter. The bad - 1) It's 2025 and still in early access. The aesthetics now look adequate for a $15 and will soon be outstripped by our AI overlords. IE, the creators banked on the aesthetics to hold peoples attention, but didn't keep them up to date, and now have fallen to far behind to be considered standard when the game comes out of early access. 2) A game with this many working parts is not a game, it's a chore. Every single task has too many layers to be fun. Basic items have a 4 to 6 step process to be useful. Yes this is realistic, "hyper realistic" as the developers have said, but hyper realism isn't a mass producible "fun," it's niche "fun" at best. Overall - I have never played a basic looking, less intuitive, overly complex, and boring chore simulator than this game.

I have to admit I love this game! This is a very realistic simulator which is why some people have an issue with it. But the physics are spot on as well as the engineering. I suggest playing in colonist mode for the most realistic experience. I have played for about 80 hours and I have unlocked all the research trees. It was a challenge finding all the blue prints but that made the game more fun to play by forcing you top explore but also to be prepared with food and resources. It give you a realistic feel of being alone on Mars and having to start with next to nothing which is exactly what it would be like. So I give this one 5 stars. Challenging yet realistic and will keep you addicted especially if your into engineering and problem solving. Fellow astronauts I have prepared the way for you. I have gone from survival mode to a thriving base with an internal ecosystem. Can you do the same? Join the ERA and become a Martian citizen today! Mars awaits you! The ERA offered me a ride home. But I told them no. Mars is home now... The saga continues! Zax

This is an EA access review, which I normally don't like doing. I may change it later. But I certainly enjoyed the time I've spent playing it. The first few days and week or two can be pretty challenging, and there are mechanisms in place to set you back and keep the challenge going. I really enjoy watching the meteor storms rain down on my base and destroying stuff, then scrambling to fix it all and somehow stay alive, though many people really hate this aspect of the game. Just be aware that surviving on this version of Mars is not a simple drop to surface and just relax and enjoy the views. It takes some planing and learning of the systems to survive. With that said, it does become pretty cookie cutter once you figure it all out, though you can come up with new base designs and try to survive in other areas of the map. I like the construction system in that you can plan out your base in advance and then add materials to build it as you go along. That's a great feature. My one game play issue would be the time scale. It's really fast and days just fly by. It's part of the challenge, but I would prefer longer days since you generally sleep at night. I can't imagine getting a team to sleep at the same time during coop, which is the focus of the next update at the time of writing this. But overall, the game is pretty good and could definitely use some more quests and story line into why we're doing stuff, but that's EA and the devs have said more is on the way, which is another good thing. The devs are active on the forums and making sure we know the game will be finished, in it's own time, which is fine by me (though probably within the next year is a reasonable expectation). Looking forward too it.
