I absolutely loved this game. I decided to try another of Frogwares' point-and-click games after playing Dracula: Origin because I really liked that one. Well this one is even better. The gameplay is a bit weird in that it can be first or third person, and there are a few bugs (if you can't figure out how to get out of a room, you might want to just try walking through the door, which only appears closed due to a visual bug) but the story and puzzles (most of them) are magnificent. This game gives a fun new twist to the Jack the Ripper story that everyone knows, and does it really well. In addition, I really liked this version of Sherlock Holmes (much more than the one in Frogwares' newest game Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened) and greatly enjoyed the bits of humor that the character provides throughout the story. Finally, I don't usually say things like this but I really appreciated the maturity of the story. The real case of Jack the Ripper is full of gruesome and serious details and I think this game handled it very well.

The writing is hilarious, the voice acting is so bad its good, and the puzzles can be stupidly unclear. Sherlock is an ass and even playing as him made me feel like clueless Watson going "oh, so we're doing this now???" Also the game is a bit homophobic? but anyway if you like these weird point and click games this is still fun to point and laugh at with a friend. I did enjoy my time with it but not sure if I can call it 'good'. Definitely something.

A fun investigative story game. I would suggest having a tutorial on standby though.

P: Though the game fabricates puzzles from nonsense and wastes your time, there is a diamond in the rough. It takes you through actual events, evidence and conjectures that lead to an interesting mystery. The ending is worth the work, even if the quizzes were hand-holdier than the Pearl Earing and the puzzles were worse than Awakening, E: I genuinely enjoyed the examinations of bodies and sequences pertaining to the direct facts and timelines. However, they were too few and far between, and my patience is at last expended on the point-and-click adventure genre. The solution did feel satisfying and interesting at least. I like how it weaves the real facts of the mystery into the Holmesian canon.

With a big caveat. There are some quite significant bugs, some of them game-breaking that will have you searching the internet (particularly if you play on widescreen). Some of the puzzles are really fun and challenging, some just frustrating. Overall, a good story and still enjoyable.
