Very fun game if you are looking for something to scratch that souls-like itch. There are some interesting mechanics not present in other souls-like games. It is no Lies of P, but definitely worth playing if you are obsessed with this sub-genre like myself.

I completed the original Surge 1, but only 50% this game. Honestly, its a good game but didnt just grab me like the original. Don't know why.

The Surge 2 is a surprisingly solid entry in the soulslike genre. Right from the start, it shows noticeable improvements over its predecessor, especially in terms of combat mechanics and enemy design. One of its most unique features is the dismemberment system: executions aren’t just flashy finishers — they’re essential. If you want a specific piece of gear, you’ll have to target the corresponding limb and sever it. This adds a layer of strategy to every fight, making executions meaningful rather than superficial. The gameplay may feel a bit clunky at first, particularly if you’re coming from games like Dark Souls or Lies of P, but once you get used to the rhythm and directional parrying, it becomes smooth and satisfying. Mastering the parry system is key to surviving the more intense zones later in the game. The story isn’t especially deep, but it does a good job of keeping you curious. The mystery surrounding Athena and the chaos unfolding in Jericho City keeps you engaged, encouraging exploration to uncover more pieces of the narrative. Visually, the game offers a solid variety of futuristic, urban environments with a gritty, dystopian aesthetic. Armor sets and weapons are well-designed and diverse, both visually and mechanically, encouraging experimentation. What really enhances the customization system is the use of Implants — a series of modifiers that provide passive and active bonuses like health regeneration, energy boosts, increased damage, and more. These allow for highly specialized builds tailored to different playstyles, whether you prefer tanky, aggressive, or high-mobility approaches. In summary, The Surge 2 is a very enjoyable game that successfully carves out its own identity in the crowded soulslike space. With original mechanics, a solid world design, and a story that keeps you hooked just enough, it's a title well worth exploring for fans of challenging action RPGs in a sci-fi setting.

I loved the original Surge, so much that I decided to give Surge 2 a second shot after giving up on it on the PS4. Now, back when I ditched it the first time, it was solid, and ran fairly well on the PS4 all things considered, it just wasn't my cup o' tea. I couldn't really say the same for the PC port. For a parry-centric game, the controls seem almost unresponsive. Might just be my issue, but it's kind of unplayable. Uuuuuuunfortunately, I gave it too much time, and am over the 2hr threshold for a refund.

idk about you guys but i play it with keyboard and tutorial just said press triangle for stuff like wtf triangle in keyboard man, feels like this game from playstasion move to pc but not all game feature sync with pc. "Why dont just play use joystick" better tell it at START THEN. The tutorial is bad, you must lock enemy head if they are wearing armor yeah game tell us what to do but dont tell us HOW TO DO IT. Literally i must watch some random dude in yt for this BS problem, waste my time. Idk if after that there is some weird instruction better drop it but sadly its 2 week+ after i buy this game must be nice getting that money back

Not as gritty as 1, far too many shortcuts back to medbay, and far too many enemies in a game focused on single combat. I'll take guns over drones any day of the week though. The combat is smooth and the parry system is much better than 1, i do think enemy stagger is a bit too short tho. The audiologs feel way out of place compared to the gritty setting of 1 aswell. The story is,,, meh, nothings really a suprise and it doesn't really draw me to it. I turned off the online features so i dont know what that entails (Heard its bad). i enjoyed playing but it could use some work.
