Distant Worlds 2 is an epic space 4X game with a truly massive scale. It can support thousands of star systems and has a living, breathing galaxy. The AI-controlled civilian economy adds real depth, making your empire feel alive as private industry handles trade, mining, and more. It also grows along side you. One of my favourite features is the automation system. You can control as much or as little as you want: focus on just one aspect while learning, or let the AI handle everything and watch a fully automated empire in action. The real-time game play with pause means you always set the pace. If you want a deep, flexible strategy game where you decide how hands-on to be, Distant Worlds 2 is a must-play!

I have deeply enjoyed this game, it has so much stuff to explore and choices to make... i found the computer AI manager helpful to running your empire is your first few times playing, it will likely cost you the game in my opinion... but it makes a lot of good decisions and takes a lot of things off your shoulders while still giving you the feel of some control as you learn about cause and effects of decisions. the area that i recommend learning for yourself early on is ship design, the computer is using a similar design as your opponents, this means your ships are mostly designed to be generalist ships and not really focused on your empires specific needs or skills. i have had a lot of fun designing my specialized ships both for military and civilian purposes... i have found that its truely a pleasure to watch my fleets encounter large AI fleets that out weigh my fleets in strength yet my ships punch above their weight and break their backs with good tactics and preperation. i hope that many of you experience this and find the same joy i did... especially when its the annoying pirates turn to be raided lol... i have tried my hand at diplomacy and its a rich area in the game but the end game threats ae brutal and if i am going to be at war and fighting to survive in my galaxy i prefer to be the end game threat and laugh when they show up threatening me with war.... whats one more lol. i love this game and recommend it highly but i will be honest i think it has a lot of room for growth. hope you enjoy it.

I really want to love this game but all it does is crash and crash and crash and crash and crash. I've never seen anything like it.

Stellaris, but for adults. Just about everything about it is better thought out, especially the scale. Interface needs some minor work though.

I have owned DW2 for some time but let it sit unplayed for way too long. Finally put some time in and it is, right now, my favorite 4x space game. There is a lot under the hood so if you think you will just pick this game up and dominate...sorry. This is a title you take time with, to learn, to explore, to just play. Almost everything can be automated so let that be your guide as you learn the systems at your pace. You may ask, why would you take the time to learn this game? For me, its rather simple...along with Stellaris, this is one of those few games that allow me to imagine and to live out my own "space opera". Speaking of Stellaris, I like DW2 more because of the battles. While Stellaris battles are whirling balls of light, DW2 battles feel and look like actual scifi fleet battles. One final suggestion though...the music is very bad. Grab a music mod and install. Other than that, take your time and have fun.

this game seems alright its gonna take some getting used to the music in the game is awful ive never heard anything like it sadly there's little to no micro managing which i think is needed you cant control mining ships or cargo shuttles, you also cant place any buildings where ever you want they are all Pre-selected same with ships until you build a space port then they fly out of the port so yeah im still really early in the game so ill update this review. other than that id say wait for the sales its not worth the 41.99

If I had to choose one game to be marooned on a desert isle, this would be the one.

It's Distant Worlds 2. If this is a game that you've read about somewhere and are thinking, "could it be for me," hell, idk, maybe. It will not handhold you and you will likely need to learn a couple of things from experimentation, you will be annoyed by automation but not in a way that will lose a game for you, and you can usually trust you are making better decisions than 80% of the AIs. Most of the really fine details you don't need to worry about until you learn enough about a system to go digging for the solution to a problem, like fuel limitations, drive designs, tax/growth rates, or troop garrison settings. Honestly this is a game that is a lot of fun to learn just for the scale of it, and I would recommend you at least give it a try for a few hours if you have any interest in the systems of any other 4X game, because DW2 does it all well.
