Very good turn-based strategy game in the Warhammer 40K universe. Insane OST and very immersive atmosphere. The techpriest progression and upgrade aspect are very good. The game is quite difficult at first but get easier as you play. It's also a great game to play on steam deck. I highly recommend it !

It pains me to vote no, because there are many things to love about this game. The atmosphere is incredible; great soundtrack and sound design; solid graphics. If you love 40k, this game absolutely nails the vibe. Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is just mediocre. It's pretty damn fun for a few missions while you learn the mechanics; but then you keep grinding through the same missions for hours on end. Mission and enemy variety is disappointing, and your tactics never really get any more advanced. My other major complaint is that the animations are just so slow. Watching a Necron Warrior menacingly approach before raising his gauss rifle to blast you is great... the first few times. The 100th time, not so much. And every animation, both squad and enemy, is just as slow. For about the last 5 hours of gampley, I found myself asking "Is this actually fun?". And when the answer is "No", I just stopped playing.

This is an interesting game. Once you understand the mechanics the battles are fun. My first attempt I wasn't paying enough attention in the tutorial and missed a few things and didn't like the game because of it. My second try at the game I didn't miss the mechanics and am having a lot of fun with it now. Great soundtrack.

+ music is fun gameplay is great looks nice a lot of customisation many ways to abuse the necrons +/- depending on taste game is the most difficult at the start, no matter the difficulty, the last mission on the hardest difficulty was ridiculously easy, to the point where i expected a revival gimmick because I killed the final boss within 1 round, it will take you longer to kill 2 basic enemies at the start of the game, start is actually difficult, end game is easy no matter the difficulty setting - game is really god damn slow, the animations take a lot of time, you might think "oh what a foolish complaint", counterpoint, enjoy watching 10 necrons sloooowly walk somewhere, decide to shoot you, shoot you, repeat to next necron, this makes it so even the easiest fights will take away minutes of your life because the animations are slow and there is no proper way to speed them up aside from using cheat engine to force the game into being faster the individual fight objectives were set up by Baphomet to facilitate sacrifices, case and point, lets say you want to finish the mission as fast as possible, maybe you dont care about possible money to be gained from killing, maybe you just want to get a different ending and thus dont care about the payout, maybe you dont have the health to spend on extended fighting, so you focus on the objective and the objective is "escape" so you put your guys out of position and action points to escape, objective "escape" is completed, new objective "kill everything" BUT sometimes the "escape" objective just flat out ends the mission, so sometimes the objectives change for no reason but sometimes they are actual objectives, this will make your blood boil because there is an objective called "scan or destroy" where you have to do those things to terminals, scanning the terminals rewards you with a lot of money, destroying them helps with a campaign resource called awareness, you can in fact scan to get the money and then destroy to help with said resource BUT sometimes the objective "Scan or destroy" actually means what it says and the moment you scan the last terminal the missions ends so you cant destroy it BUT you have no clue when such a situation will occur because many times when you finish this objective the fight objective switches to "haha jk kill everything now" or into "escape" this god forsaken switcharoo is just idiotic because frankly you cant strategise due to it, the best strategy UNLESS you already know the objectives beforehand is ALWAYS to kill everything except 1 easily containable necron and then achieve whatever the requires of you, fi the mission ends you got as much money out of the fight as possible, if not you only need to kill 1 necron, it feels like ass because playing for the objective is always a gamble

The game is fun. The difficulty is changeable at any time so you can adjust as you go and not hate life. It's a solid experience for me.

Good looking and sounding game. Interesting lore. But I must be cursed by the Omnissiah because I found the tactical side of this game is boring and annoying at the same time. Missions are very repetitive and seems like I am always outnumbered with a ticking clock. Plot wise, there are a lot of talking heads on the big ship who complain but don't give me much help on the ground. Story doesn't make sense, its just a setup to fill the air between missions. Not a fun game.

There is fun to be had here but there are a lot of flaws. It's an XCom clone that ignored the concept of 'cover'. There's a time limit mechanic that punishes you for taking too long in a mission or even just in a fight. And all throughout the game there's this odd philosophy of 'well the Adeptus Mechanicus is all about discovery so you should discover how to play the game and what things do all on your own". The overall feeling is of a game that can't decide if it's trying to be a repetitive rogue-like or Xcom. And that's not a satisfying line to straddle. I want to enjoy it more and play more, but after 3 hours I honestly can't find any joy here or any excitement urging me start it back up.

There is a game-breaking bug after the tutorial where the game freezes 100% of the time. You cannot play the game at all. As long as this bug remains I cannot recommend this game. It is a shame that most of modern games seem to not function at all or at the bare minimum. I'm sick of being a playtester. I'm sick of buying games which have thousands of bugs which could have been resolved if Quality Assurance was still a thing. Just sad...

Finally got around to finishing this after 5 odd years. Overall, enjoyable for the amount I played. This game is brimming with character. The score is phenomenal, the intro cutscene is sublime and a lot of care has been taken by the devs to stay true to the source material. There are also many nice nods to the wider setting throughout the game. The atmosphere in my opinion is on point too. I'm a big fan of the twist on the usual turn based tactics formula with the inclusion of cognition - i.e. a character can do as many actions as they want as long as they have cognition points and skills / weapons available to use. Things can get quite nutty quite quickly which leads me into the difficulty. This game on the normal setting which I think I played on (I started the save years ago so have forgotten) is an absolute doddle past the first 5 - 10 hours. The power of the Techpriests and the auxiliary troops far outshines that of the Necrons to the point where everything largely becomes a stomp. Hell, I mowed down the final boss within two turns after he talked such a big game before the battle. Fights just ended up being very anti climactic as a result. If i were to play the game again I'd definitely crank the difficulty up and I'd recommend going with hard as a first playthrough too. Would recommend and definitely looking forward to Mechanicus II when it releases.

I don't really wanna play this anymore, so I can't recommend it either. It's a turn-based squad game, sort of like X-com, but with some rather special mechanics. You need these action points to do most actions during combat, and you have to do various things to gain those (which consist mostly of standing in range of these obelisks). It's different from anything I have seen before, but I can't say that I care for it. You start with 2 squaddies and you can get more as you progress, but the fillers are these generic soldiers with no special abilities. Due to this the game just comes off as a lot less tactical than say X-Com, where all your squaddies have several abilities, that depend on their class. In this game your squaddies also have different classes with different abilities. The majority of your pieces are just the generic soldiers. I should also note that the difficulty seems to be quite high, for those where that matters. I'm a pretty bit fan of Warhammer 40k, but I am still going to move on. The soundtrack however is terrific.

I have finished the game and all the subquests I could find in about 46 hours. I had quite a lot of fun although there are some negative points (especially lack of quality of life aspects in the interface that I think should be standard in a game that came out in the last decade) Pro - Humorous dialogues and details, the writing is succinct but perfectly shows the dark grim humour of the 40k universe and the Admech lore. - First third of the campaign is challenging and rewards good thinking of risk/reward dynamic - Enemies are quite varied and fun, despite being basically all Necrons (the exception is the Heretek expansion) - the music and artwork are on point and perfectly give the right vibe and atmosphere Cons - randomly generated encounters and maps sometimes don;t make sense (I had one where the final objective was just one step away from the entrance door, making the rest of the level completely useless) - Techpriests become completely overpowered after 60% of the Necrons awakening bar. If you manage to unlock all 6 the challenge becomes annihilating all enemies within one round and without taking any damage... and you can very often succeed. This is probably balanced if you start an ironman or higher difficulty playthrough. - About events during missions: I have found that not knowing what a choice will give you in terms of rewards or drawbacks loses the roleplay fun pretty fast (at least for me) and simply adds a lot of choices that you can't make strategically. Often there is no hint at all of what can happen and that feels too random. I would have preferred to be able to see at least generally what I choice would do (affect initiative, heal/damage, Necron awakening) and have every choice give you a boon and a drawback at the same time, and you can decide what you want to do either based on roleplay or strategy what you want to do. I hope they will change this completely in Mechanicus 2 - being able to movement stat of a techpriest, enemy or unit and the area of damage of a weapon in advance would be great especially for cone energy weapons. I was left sometimes to guess where top position a techpriest and hoping I would hit the right tiles (you can see it after you moved but not before). Maybe I got spoiled by Tachtical breach wizards, but I was frustrated by this. - the equip menu needs to be sorted, in this case all weapons just piled in the same box without possibility to sort and filter. Mind, these are minor cons compared to the overall quality of this game, I recommend it dearly to all genre or 40k fans, especially if you find it on discount.

Turn based combat in a warhammer game? Sign me up. Before the sequel drops, why not try the original? Mechanicus is a rewarding game where you outfit an increasing team of tech priests and Skitari troops to delay the awakening of the necrons on the planet Silva Tenebris. Initial levels can be trickier with low level limited troops, but gets better if you can push through these early stages. In the skill tree, movement is helpful, as is the increase range damage in the dominus tree. Later on, it can feel a little repetitive, but despite that, it's still an excellent time. This game is great... it got me into WH40k so there is that... I wasn't sold ont the brand at all upfront. The ambiance, the playstyle, the mechanics... It just works really well for a turn base not too stressfull game. Can't wait for the 2!

It's technically not a bad game at all. I'm not particularly fond of the doom clock, but the game is balanced around it, so OK. Other than that, it's competently made and plays pretty well. But I don't want to play it. The particulars of the setting grated on me after a few missions. Namely, that from start to finish, you play as a bunch of robed nerds exploring a big basement. It's just...profoundly uninteresting. And not, mind you, that it could have been anything else given the lore they're working with. In retrospect it's really obvious. I came for the gameplay and left for the prospect of leading my squad of bath-robes through another cellar.

Very very solid tactics games, with enough unique to make it stand out, and an impeccable art direction and soundtrack. Seriously, the soundtrack is worth it alone. Difficulty balance is kinda out of wack, and actions can feel a little sluggish, but other than that it's just a really solid time and realizes it's corner of 40k extremely well, while also just being a good tactical rpg on top of that.

One of the best warhammer and tactic games out there. Slowly building your techpriest from a metal boy in a red pyjamas into a fully-kit toaster armed with lazers the size of a refrigerator and flamethrowers wielding the heat ray of a thousand sun will never not be satisfying. This game is great. The enemy variety, the boss battles, the slow, increment uphill fight for upgrades and new weapons that makes your team stronger as new challenges are thrown at you is perfection, but one that does not last throughout the entire game, as your endgame team become so formidable that any Necrons are reduced to mere atoms before your plasma weaponry. Additionally, some classes are clearly made better than another, so there's clearly a balance issue in this game. But in the end, it doesn't matter. The game is fun. Repeated playthrough is great. The characters are interesting, super unique and fun, and the story that is being told here, though definitely not some masterpiece, is functional and well told. Still. Great game. Highly recommended.

I adore this game. A Warhammer 40,000 game in the turn based tactics genre following the footsteps of games like X-com, nailing a very unique and underutilized aspect of the universe by being all about the Adeptus Mechanicus? Sign me up. Despite its smaller budget, the game nails the atmosphere of the universe and just draws you in for one hell of a good time fighting against the Necrons. As you explore the alien tombs of Silva Tenebris, you'll find equipment and resources to upgrade your Tech Priests, deploy squads of units, and deal with simple events that could range from dealing with moral quandaries to coming up with a way to cross a room filled with acid. As you undertake missions for your command staff, you'll get plenty of very well-written dialogue that brings the Mechanicus conflicts between practicality, spirituality, and ambition to the forefront. Every time I've played through this game, I find myself reading the dialogue again and again, with most of the characters having distinct and intriguing personalities. At multiple points throughout the game, I felt the smaller budget of the game rear its ugly head. Be prepared to face the same enemies with the same strategies on the same maps multiple times to unlock events that use the same art, but it doesn't personally repeat often enough to get grating. The settings are highly customizable, but on the basic level you'll find that the balance of the game is initially very tilted in the Necrons' favor, but eventually becomes a cakewalk for the priests of Mars as you unlock more weapons and abilities. These problems didn't bother me nearly enough to get me to stop playing though. The art style is excellent. The music is unique and wonderfully well made. The writing is very fitting. I had a great time with Mechanicus, and I'm looking forward obliterating Necrons and the Leagues of Votann in the sequel.

While it's very repetitive and some of the mechanics would be wildly unfair on harder difficulties (I played on Normal) the game is pretty fun. It's an ideal "podcast game" or something to do while you chat with friends. If you're looking for something as good as XCom then this isn't what you're looking for but if you want a chill tactical RPG with amazing music then Mechanicus is ideal.

A very fun single-player turn-based strategy game. There are a variety of skill trees, utility items, and troops to choose from, and all of these elements is added into your strategy as you progress through the missions. I'll point out two of its most unique gameplay design, which include: 1) a RPG game that doesn't allow you to dungeon-crawl too much, unlike most other game in its genre. It has a built in counter that accelerate the game toward the conclusion if you have the habit of exploring the map too thoroughly. You'll see what I mean when you play the game. 2) Even if you fail a mission (your party got wiped), you still proceed through the story, without too much consequences! It is a unique design that fits in with the lore, and something I've seldom seen in these type of games. Storywise, Mechanicus reads like a hard sci-fi novel, based on Games Workshop's Warhammer universe.

As much as it pains me to fight against the true rulers of the galaxy, the Silent King will forgive my treachery for I merely felled lesser Pharons lording over a lesser Dynasty. This game was absolutely AMAZING! Graphics were great, story was really on point, and the MUSIC! My god, the music is perfect Cathedral-Core. I sometimes left the music playing in the background just to keep it playing. As with many other XCOM like games, the game starts out P U N I S H I N G . But if you can push through the first 7 or so stages and get additional priests, the game turns into an unbelievably fun experience. Word of advice, there is NO shame in using a guide for the map segments as those are THE most unfair parts of the game. Choices that make sense will punish you and any advantage you may find by shear dumb luck can and will be wiped out in the blink of an eye if you make too many bad choices. Again, use a guide for the Map and Glyphs. This was a great purchase and I can't wait to play Mechanicus II when it comes out.

This game near-perfectly captures the look and feel of Warhammer 40k. The lore is beginner-friendly and the audio/music is TOP NOTCH. I love the AdMech. My only gripes are 1) the game gets too easy and thus, becomes a bit stale and 2) the bosses were a letdown. There was a healthy amount of tension at the start but once I figured out the game mechanics, the challenge became how to finish levels as efficiently as possible. TIP: PRESS SPACEBAR in the main hub/ mission select! There's a sneaky AdMech hiding there.

One of the best games I've ever played. One of my favorite parts is how the difficult can be customized. The same mission can either take 7 minutes or 40 minutes depending on your choices. It also has a somewhat strange difficulty curve for an XCOM inspired game, you'll start the game struggling a lot, but at around halfway through the game, you'll get enough gear and level up your characters enough to begin destroying everything. Some people don't find that fun, they think you should be struggle the whole game. I say that struggling in the beginning then growing strong enough to destroy everyone is much more fun. Also, be careful with the Heretek DLC missions, they're the hardest ones in the game and WILL end your run if you don't know what you're doing(lost an ironman save to those Hereteks, fk my life).

Finally finished it in the wake of the Mechanicus II gameplay trailer. Not a fan of XCOM, but I'm finding that I'm a big fan of XCOM-likes Things I liked: > General gameplay > Armor system was neat once I got used to it > Kitting out my tech priests was fun > Catelans > The music > The character designs Things I disliked: > (From what I could tell) lack of sniper weaponry, I may not have found it, but I never got any sort of long range high damage gun for my tech priests > Some level designs were either too easy or too wacky > Some bugs here and there Things I adored: > My tech priests 1v1ing bosses with enough attention to their build > Troops were super fun to use, especially rangers and the castelans

Early game was rough for me but I got the hang of it soon enough. Trying different strategies with the options they give you is super fun, and you can make your tech priests super busted. Being able to see your priests be upgraded visually is sick as hell too. The troop units also help you adapt to different kinds of enemies and give you more freedom for how you want to play. Definitely more of a Admech fan thanks to this game. All in all, if you like strategy games, I recommend. If you like Warhammer, I recommend. Final rating: 4.5/5 gauss rifles, would awaken slumbering death robots again.

It took me a few tries, but I finally got in to this game. Once you play about 30 minutes and get a feel for it, the early game is good fun. I would say they failed in the late game. The enemies are too tanky, and to combat that you have to click through several power ups on each character to do damage. Seriously, each of your up to 6 dudes needs to have 1 or 2 power up animation, then the animation showing your next attack costs 2 AP less, then you finally get to shot something. It's like the filler episodes of Dragon Ball Z where the whole thing is wasted channeling a spirit bomb. Next time! On Dragon Ball Mechanicus! Still a good game overall, but man I hope they make part 2 better than this.

"One of the good ones". - Warhammer is plagued by a lot of low-effort potato-budget cash grab games, but this is not one of them. Mechanicus is a fairly straightforward turn-based RPG whose defining mechanic is the CP system. Dotted around stages are various terminals that, when moved adjacent to, give you points that can be spent on attacks and extra moves. These terminals refresh every round. So battles become about how to maneuver your squad in such a way that you maximize CP generation and take as many actions as possible before the enemy. While the first 4-6 missions are brutal as your power level is noticeably behind the enemy's, once you cross over that hump you massively break ahead of the power curve to the point where it is not difficult to end most battles in a single round, even at the very late-game. Aside from that, the visuals are decent, albeit a little too... table-top, for my tastes anywho. The sound effects are satisfyingly chunky, and the music sets the tone very well. The tone of the game in general is laid out extremely well in fact. Games focused on the Adeptus Mechanicus or Necrons are quite rare, so fans of this specific subset of Warhammer are in for a treat. A single playthrough will probably take you anywhere from 25-40 hours depending on how proficient you are (there is a time limit that ticks down between missions based on how many actions you took to clear the previous one, but it is generous and, if you clear missions quickly and efficiently enough, can effectively be stalled multiple times).

Summary: TOTALLY NOT BALANCED PIECE OF SHIT NEVER BUY IT BEFORE HUGE, SIGNIFICANT RE-BALANCE!!! NEVER!!! My first introduction to the game was very surprising, I thought that found a dimond and was happier then ever. I choose to play on Very Hard with IronMan and Permadeath mods on... I choose to play significantly difficult strategy game with hard decision and my brain turned on for 150%. Only this could give you true emotions, and true happiness from playing. And it was very very close to it (I thought it was) because my first game I loose because of bad decision made by me, I had no enough cognition points and I underestimate my enemy so I loose. It was fantastic, the end video part of the game tell me the story of lost to Necrons civilization of future humankind, all galaxy was swarmed with Necrons and I as a commander lead to it. It was entirely fantastic feeling. It was exactly what I need, to try hard and be punished for my frivolity. The second try was also lost. I forgot that I choose Permadeath and I lost one of my Tech-Priest (a hero in this world), that's why I had not enough fire-power in my next mission and I loose. Again. The End video part of the game recalled me that all of that is my fault. The third try I was totally focused. I was scared of every new type of enemy warriors (because you don't know the abilities of new enemies, you should find them out), I was totally in the game and that what I need, that what I choose! But, after I pass first approximately 10 missions all of this just gone. My heroes became overpower pieces of shit. I just "hit and run" all of future missions without any strategy. Every new enemy I was really careful, but it wasn't needed. I gathered many of many items, but use only a few ones that best fit to any situation while other ones is not needed at all. Why you add that items to the game? What the hell? Why don't play and don't get well tested your own game? Why??? WHY??? Why it is looks like noone never play it before? Why my first BIG BOSS was like easy walk and I win it with only my left hand in use and a couple of clicks???? What is that the shit? Why you did so much work, add so much items and other possibilities, but I can't use them, because there is only a couple of good combination of that items and abilities? Why the game that was so fantastic at the beggining become so miserable? All abilities lasts one round... ohhh, that looks like they just add something to be and it doesn't matter what, all of it will last one round, will be imbalanced at all and so on. Oh and I forget the ultimate abilities of each tech-priests and so called Canticles... you can just anything at any time. You can develop the ability to use any Canticle twice... you just can make an overpower shit... ohhh, what the pain is that. You can heal all of your tech-priests in one time, just all healed... ohhh, what a shit. This game for now is like something that no one never played and tested before release. Very Hard = "hit and run"... so stupid.

The aesthetic liturgy of this artefact is immaculate—its visual runes and architecture of level design form a cathedral of data, both pleasing to the organic optic and harmonious to the augmetic soul. The choice-matrix, a divine algorithm, offers paths of righteous challenge, punishing the unworthy with calculated severity. The adepts under your command are blessed with a skill-tree lattice, a manifold of possibilities that unfolds at a rate synchronized with the escalating trials of the mission protocols. The auditory hymns, a standout canticle, stir the spirit to chant praises to the Omnissiah, their resonance a binary prayer. This unit, previously uninitiated in the rituals of turn-based strategy, has been enlightened by this sacred interface. Mechanicus has rewritten the base code of preference, aligning it with the Machine God’s will.

Get it on sale if you like the world of 40k,the story is your standard ''commit mass genocide for the toaster this time blah blah'' BUT there is some humor and decent writing which save it to some degree, combat goes from okay in diffuculty to a cakewalk in 4-5 missions from the start which isnt great. Said combat while satisfying in its own merits doesnt have alot of depth and gets repetitive very quickly+missions later on drag alot with no way to speed up time which means you spend more time waiting for rounds to end than doing anything productive. Frankly after i reached the half way point the only thing that kept me going was the music and the overall vibe. The bosses are also a complete joke(the final boss died in 2 turns with barely any fighting so make of that what you want)

Definitely worth playing if you like Warhammer and Adeptus Mechanicus.

Bad mission design early on: You start with 4 units that fully equipped and upgraded take around 3 turns to kill one enemy. But you start out against 5 enemies and each turn 2 more enemies spawn, for the next 4 turns lol. Everyone of the enemy units has longer range, deals more damage, and does not require cognition to use their weapons unlike you do. Best of all, this mission is categorized as "easy".

The game is hard if you don't take the time to think your strategy; but becomes very fulfilling every time you manage to beat the odds, or when you manage a nigh flawless victory.
