The game crashes during loading times and the sound is poorly mixed. I can't hear the characters speaking because of the sound effects and the music

This game is honestly underrated. It was hated on back in the day. I think a lot of that was down to certain YouTubers back in the date that hated on games for views. But I think it fits in really well, they did a good job with the town to sorta explore, you got the horror the element which they did it good. The combat isn't bad. The story has lots of twists and is captivating. I remember playing this back in the day, I switched it on to try and the story captivated me. This is honestly one of the best silent hill stories. It's worth buying just for that. The combat has a dodge so you have a lot of good options for combat. It's not hard. Playing any old game on modern hardware can be iffy. I have a 2070 super. It ran fine. If you got FreeSync/Adaptive sync/G-sync put that on as I found it went just that bit smoother. Though this is entirely down to preference. It works fine. Minor annoyance is not being able to save notes to read later. This story has dialogue scenes but there is notes that tell you more stuff about the place. Sadly not all notes are saved to a journal. You have to keep going back to where the note is to read them. I was hoping there would be a mod. But we can always go to the wiki to see the notes. It would just be better if it saved them all.

Just bought this game at discount and didn't expect to get jumpscared by a game this old. Can't wait for the remake.

Firstly, I would like to say that I don’t believe in objectivity when it comes to art. No piece of media is “objectively bad” in my opinion, there is always someone who will appreciate something that could be considered bad or poorly made. That being said, I despise this video game. For me 'Silent Hill: Homecoming' fundamentally misunderstands everything that made the original Silent Hill special while spitting on the face of Silent Hill 2 and the direction that it tried to take the franchise. For me, this is not a Silent Hill game. It lacks the skeleton of the gameplay, the atmosphere and quality of the originals' level design, and the well crafted story and themes of the classics (not to say how less subtle everything is, I swear Alex broke my immersion by how much on your face his dialogues are when inspecting his house). Not everything in this game sucks, I would argue that sometimes it introduces a nice element or theme to the narrative, and levels like the Otherworld version of the Shepherd House are pretty good actually. Some puzzles are okay, I guess, but I barely really had to do any mental effort for like 90% of the game. This doesn’t feel like a main entry in the franchise, but rather a tie-in game inspired by the movie (now that I think about it, this would explain the bad quality of the overall product). For me, every enemy design sucks and it’s purely there for shock value, this game has a fricking boss designed like the “Human Centipede”! They don’t fit in with the rest of the classic's roster of enemies and the bosses feel like they came from a different type of game altogether (like the doll boss that looks directly cut from a horror version of Dark Souls). This game is also really raw and brutal in ways that take away the surrealist and otherworldly vibe of Silent Hill. It feels like it took more inspiration from Saw or Hostel than from Silent Hill, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth everytime I see it. Also, most NPCs' feels so forced to the point of even ruining the actual good ones. The highlights for me were the moments with your parents and Deputy Wheeler (the absolute GOAT). In the end, I hate this game and think it’s a miserable experience that goes against everything that made me love Silent Hill. The steam port is also an absolute broken mess, but my experience playing on the PS3 was pretty buggy as well… the only difference is that it was just playable and beatable, the same almost can’t be said for the steam version. I’d recommend you to stay miles away from this game and play the better titles instead. But if you do play it and actually enjoy it, good for you. As I said, I can see value in some aspects of the game and I don’t think this is an objectively bad piece of media, but I do consider it to be bad and poorly made in my personal opinion. I hate it and I can’t stand it. That's it.

When it's not constantly crashing, and forcing you to lose progress, it's a pretty decent and fun game. DO NOT buy if you're expecting a Silent Hill game, only buy it, if you like dumb action-horror games. 7.5/10

possibly one of the best in the series, this game takes elements from David Lynch and expands on it. It has some growing pains but that's due to a targeted western audience. If you like this and wanted to see other silent hill games i recommend playing silent hill HD collection for ps3, it's graphics are unparalleled with computers at the time and really gives the game a nice coat of paint. Don't be fooled by the haters, this really is a sleeper hit and well worth the $40.

3/10. pretty forgettable game with the boss fights being the only real highlight of the game. The steam version of the game is also buggy and crashes alot at times. I'd suggest buying SH: Homecoming if your a fan wanting to see all that the games have to offer and/or if the game is on sale.
